CUT IT OUT CLINTON AND OBAMA SUPPORTERS

I wanted to post this diary because I think that things this evening have gone a bit off the deep end from both sides of the party, including some comments from myself. While I certainly understand disagreements regarding both canidiates past and policy positions, the whole "she's a liar...he's a liar" bit has gone a bit too far at least for this evening. I have been apart of this train as well, and to show my regret for that, I have unrec'd TexasDarlin's diary. There's some stuff on there that is just as inapropriate as some of the stuff that is hurled at Hillary throughout the primaries from both sides of the fence, and this stuff needs to stop. While I don't know that I will be supporting Obama if he were to win the nomination, I don't think rhetoric from either side like I've been using, or other people have been using, is appropriate. We're better than this, and I think it's fair to say that we all get caught up in the heat of the battle, so I'd like to offer my apology to Obama supporters for some of my actions this evening.

Read more under the flap.

For what it's worth; let's do a fun positive excersize in the name of stepping back: name one thing positive about your canidiate's opponent. I'll start:

I think it's excellent that Senator Obama has done so much to energize the base of the Democratic Party, and his fundraising skill is unmatched.

I applaud

the fact that Hillary raised a gifted daughter in Chelsea Clinton.

BTW

Nobody at MyDD or DKOS will drive me to ever vote for John McCain.

Thank You...

Thanks for the good words about Hillary. I'm sure Barack & Michelle Obama are also great parents to their kids. Oh yes, and I'm glad to see all my Obama friends getting others so excited about voting Democratic. :-)

Re: CUT IT OUT CLINTON AND OBAMA SUPPORTERS

Much appreciated, and I think it's safe to say that everyone has gotten overly-heated at one point in time during this primary season.

Hillary is a champion for middle class America and I would be proud to call her my President.

Agreed.

I know I got a little too angry today. But I've calmed down since, and I'd like to apologize here for any statement that seemed overly harsh.

Oh, and btw- I'm glad to see how Barack Obama's grown on the campaign trail. He's doing a better job now discussing bread-and-butter issues. :-)

Re:

She's a much better bowler than he is.  I also think that her stand on the Olympics is honorable.  Moreover, her position on health care is arguably more progressive than his.

Re:

Regarding bowling - I meant that she must be better, because Obama's score is so horrible.

Re:

I bet you didn't watch Ellen's show today with regards to her bowling skills.

It is safe to say if the contest would be decided based on a bowl off between the 2 of them and who could reach 300 first on 10 frames.

Bring your bucky or your pillow , it would be a long night

Maybe they should do bumper bowling instead, then.

Re:

Thanks for the laugh!  ;)

I would be proud to vote for either of them.
They both are wonderful representatives for the Democratic Party. They each have strengths and weaknesses, but, their weaknesses pale when compared to McCain (that comment to wife!).

I will be much relieved when it is Democrat vs. Republican and we can begin to move our Country out the darkness of the past 8 years.

Hillary Clinton is a tough, accomplished person who has proved that a woman is just as tough and capable as a man in the arena of Presidential politics.

Re: CUT IT OUT CLINTON AND
Well said!

Positive thing about Obama: He has run not only a historical campaign, but a revolutionary one. Regardless of the outcome of the primary or the GE, he has demonstrated the true power of the grassroots and netroots. The effectiveness of his 50-state primary strategy has transformed him from the "dark horse" candidate into the frontrunner. Future candidates (probably from both parties) will look back on this race and use his strategy as a model for their own runs.

Re: CUT IT OUT CLINTON AND OBAMA SUPPORTERS

While I don't know that I will be supporting Obama if he were to win the nomination

i cant believe you would really vote for a guy like john mccain. he has clearly shown is inability to grasp the fundamentals of mid east policy (sunni shia). he constantly misstates that sadr wanted the cease fire and that the basra uprising shows the surge is working. he criticizes obama for his stances of pakistan "bomb our ally", when the us did just that last year. and these are all things that are supposed to play to his greatest strength. to be a part of this community and vote for john mccain is just ridiculous and it makes me think you care more about your candidate than you do the state of the us and the world

Re: CUT IT OUT CLINTON AND OBAMA SUPPORTERS

This is supposed to be a positive thread for all of us, so I'm going to have to say I will refrain from having this discussion with you. If you'd like to have a talk about it, please start another thread. This has been a very over the edge day for both groups of supporters--let's just stop arguing for now. (But I will say that just because I won't vote Obama doesn't mean I'll vote McCain)

Re: CUT IT OUT CLINTON AND OBAMA SUPPORTERS

who are you going to vote for then, nader? im all for the positive vibe your trying to throw out there, but it just makes no sense to me how you wouldn't vote for a candidate who doesnt really differ much from hillary's stances. they clearly have the most in common out of any of the other remaining candidates. it just doesnt make sense to me

I think Obama is brilliant. I'd rather have him rewrite the Patriot Act than Hillary. I also think he's an elegant gentleman.

This is what we need

Hillary Clinton has a superior health care plan and is truly a fighter.  Also she is very smart.  Finally, she true empathy for blue collar workers.

I want to thank Hillary for doing so much for AA community and minorities in general.  The media does not give her a enough credit when it comes to that.

Yes, and I deleted my diary, which was posted in anger after seeing all the Hillary hit diaries today and seeing Fleaflicker banned for writing a diary based on true facts about Obama's website. This site is becoming more like Kos with the Hillary hate.

Hillary Clinton is great at debates!

She's also got major guts.  She's had way more than her fair share of rabid hatred directed at her, vicious smears on her character, and political obituaries written about her, yet she always bounces back and soldiers on--leaving her enemies to gnash their teeth in frustration.  I'm very close to declaring her an honorary Jew just for that ability alone.

by Elsinora 2008-04-07 08:17PM | 0 recs
I should probably clarify...

I am Jewish, so "honorary Jew" is intended as praise, not a tasteless joke.  It means she's got serious guts (and my sympathy, even if not my vote).

Re: CUT IT OUT CLINTON AND OBAMA SUPPORTERS

"While I don't know that I will be supporting Obama if he were to win the nomination."

This bothers me far more than the ugly rhetoric.  It goes against the entire reason for your diary.  Your reservations must be so wide and so deep as to leave a very bad taste in the mouth of us Democrats who have a preferred candidate but will happily vote for the other.

That said,

Hillary's deep and genuine need to make this country flourish.  And her intelligence.

Baraks's deep and genuine need to make this country flourish.  And his intelligence.

by mady 2008-04-07 08:29PM | 0 recs
Hmmmmmmmmm.

I will never vote for him either (I'll be writing in Clinton or Edwards should he gain the GE), but my positive remark about Obama is:

He wears nice shirts. Whoever does his laundry seems to always get them very crisp.

by Soitgoes 2008-04-07 09:10PM | 0 recs
Was that a real compliment, or backhanded snark?

Honest question--I couldn't tell.

by Elsinora 2008-04-07 09:15PM | 0 recs
That was real.

I had to think and that was what I came up with that I completely like about him. Everything else is not so much.

Aww

Y'all are making me want to cry!

How did we let it become so nasty?

Hillary is brilliant and has done a tremendous amount to open doors for women.  When I see video of how she was attacked for wanting to use her brain as first lady it is shocking to realize that so little was expected of women so few years ago.  I understand why she fights so hard, and I forgive her for the things that made me angry in this campaign.    I will definitely vote for her if Obama doesn't win.

Re: CUT IT OUT CLINTON AND OBAMA SUPPORTERS

I was actually thinking about writing a diary like this.  Mine was going to have you also say something bad about your candidate as well.

Okay - Hillary Clinton seems to be personally very loyal.

by Mostly 2008-04-07 10:34PM | 0 recs
Re: CUT IT OUT CLINTON AND OBAMA SUPPORTERS

Oh, to be clear, I meant loyal to people in her circle and to the people who are answerable to her.  I wasn't talking about Bill or anything - it wasn't a backhanded compliment.

by Mostly 2008-04-07 10:39PM | 0 recs
Re: CUT IT OUT CLINTON AND OBAMA SUPPORTERS

I can't help but notice how many smart people Hillary Clinton has impressed through her ability to listen to their concerns and talk knowledgeably with them. She's done a huge amount to support the party over the years. She's an unbelievably tenacious fighter, and I'd have no trouble at all supporting her enthusiastically if she won the nomination.
