Yikes, touch a nerve did I? I'm looking at this year as a chance to clean house. We're going to lose seats, but it would be better if we lost people like Bayh and Lincoln than Feingold and Boxer. Let's focus our attention and effort in the right places and away from elected officials who continually undermine us.

If only we could be so lucky as to be free of Bayh.

Jerome, I'm wondering if the IL senate seat might become a replay of MA. If it's Giannoulias v Kirk, you'll have an out of touch, entitled member of the elite vs a republican with a genuine shot to take a seat with large symbolic value.

One more point to add: I think the netroots community should focus intensely on state legislative races this time around. The winners of 2010 will determine how the congressional districts will be drawn. I don't see much of a chance for losing control of either chamber this cycle, so maybe our money should target local races.

I think a 7 or 8 swing in any direction is a little extreme. I don't see 2010 as particularly favorable to either political party, rather I think it's a bad year to be an incumbent.

To clarify, without 60 votes in favor of a new organizing resolution that places republicans in control of committees, shouldn't things stay the same?

I thought the organizing resolution protected democratic control of the senate. Without 60 votes, won't the Democrats remain in power, even if Biden resigns as well?
