John Edwards Surpasses $3Million on ActBlue!!!

John Edwards is running an unconventional campaign. From being the first candidate to shut out Fox News as a legitimate source for debate, to being the first candidate to call for Alberto Gonzalez to resign, to being the first and only major candidate to present a comprehensive Universal Health Care plan, for running as a friend to the environment via a carbon-neutral campaign, to using the progressive website ActBlue to raising the bulk of his internet funds, John Edwards has been there for us and has represented our interests.

Now, it's time for us to help him AND ActBlue.  The campaign is on the cusp of raising $3 Million on ActBlue.  This is a huge accomplishment, both for the Edwards campaign and for our friends at ActBlue.  Please help us pass the $3 Million mark:

Even if you support another candidate for president, and even if John isn't our nominee, his voice and his ideas are important in this race.  By willing to be bold, specific, and courageous, Edwards is forcing the party to stick to its roots.  I firmly believe the Edwards campaign, fail or succeed in the primary, will help Democrats in the General Election:

The Edwards campaign is not about one man, it is about ideas and about We the People.  It is about standing up for the rights of working folks. It is about providing health care to every American.  It is about getting us out of Iraq.  It is about reclaiming America.

I am a young professional who worked full time through college.  I am not a wealthy person.  I first gave to Howard Dean in 2003, a small amount of $25.00.  I'm asking you to stop by my ActBlue page and give a small donation to John Edwards. It's not the amount you give, it's that you give at all.  And if you like John's ideas, even if you don't support him for President, please give a little to make sure he gets heard.

Thanks for considering my request, every person who donates even a dollar, and every comment in this thread, makes Democracy a little stronger.

Please make sure to stop by, and make sure to give a tip to our friends at ActBlue! We Just Reached the Goal!

From ActBlue:

The $3,000,0000 Man John Edwards just became the first $3 million dollar candidate on ActBlue thanks to a push by MyDD User and ActBlue page creator Vox Populi. Considering we held conference calls regarding presidential fundraising earlier this week, I think this provides a great example! Thanks to everyone who contributed, let's keep the campaign moving!

Maybe, when he supports single-payer health ins

I've already donated to the Edwards campaign, but since I've gotten a good look at his proposed program, I'm saving my money for my own health.

Too much a sop to the insurance companies: in a bad, bad unworkable way.

Re: Help Edwards Pass $3Million on ActBlue!!!

This is incorrect:

"to being the first and only major candidate to support comprehensive Universal Health Care."

As far as I know all Democratic candidates support comprehensive Universal Health Care.  Please revise the false statement made in the diary.

Re: Help Edwards Pass $3Million on ActBlue!!!

Vox, George is correct. Kucinich supports a single-player plan, and Richardson has a plan as well. The others support comprehensive Universal Health Care in the abstract, but they don't have any details at all.

Re: Help Edwards Pass $3Million on ActBlue!!!

All candidates "support" comprehensive Universal Health Care.  Some just have not put forward their plans yet.

Re: Help Edwards Pass $3Million on ActBlue!!!

It isn't a false statement.  Comprehensive Universal Health Care covers all people.  Of the three major candidates, only the Edwards plan does that.

Re: Help Edwards Pass $3Million on ActBlue!!!

Only a single-payer system "covers all people." ws/0134.html

Re: Help Edwards Pass $3Million on ActBlue!!!

That's not true. There are any number of ways to cover all people.

Re: Help Edwards Pass $3Million on ActBlue!!!

We are talking about "covering all people" as a matter of a "free system" paid for by everybody's combined taxes.   You can also "cover all people" by mandating participation in a potentially very expensive system and penalizing for non-compliance.  But that is not what I regard as valid "coverage of all people."   Why not have a system akin to European countries like Germany, Sweden, etc.?

Re: Help Edwards Pass $3Million on ActBlue!!!

Germany doesn't have single-payer, and neither does France. Both have excellent health care systems that cover all people.

Re: Help Edwards Pass $3Million on ActBlue!!!

I think Edwards plan is one that can pass in Congress. Even if we pick up a couple more Senate seats I worry that if the next President tries to propose single payer it will fail. The main reason is because the private industry would be exterminated. I think Edwards plan is viable because it doesn't kill off the private industry right away it just creates a public entity to compete with the private industry. Edwards has said his plan would get us on the road to single payer, because the public plan would cover dental, mental, preventative care, long term care and would ban using pre-existing conditions as a cost measure. Meaning the more and more people who opt for the public plan it will eventually lead to the slow death of the private industry which would make it much easier then to jump to single payer.

Re: Help Edwards Pass $3Million on ActBlue!!!

Edwards does support universal healthcare and I will be donating more money to his campaign. I will go to your fundraising page and make a donation in the next couple of days. People trying to distort and ignore Edwards positions is getting old. Instead of trashing Edwards they should tell their candidate to come up with some ideas!!

No Thanks

Thanks for asking, but no. I already have a progressive website that I donate to because I know that the money actually goes to progressive candidates and causes.

Progressive Patriots Fund is chaired by Senator Russell D. Feingold and I trust him.

I am an Obama supporter and I support JE.  I gave up 25.00.  But Hillary and Obama???  I would not be surprised if she asked him, he is a walking ATM.
