Chris Matthews wants Obama to be next Carter

Chris Matthew has been licking Obama's arse for a long time. He always likened Obama to Carter who he worked for in the 1970s. He refers to Hillary as "establishment" candidate, echos everything Obama says and criticizing Hillary supporters for allegedly echoing what Hillary says. This guy should transfer to Fox with his "balanced news fearless views"

What did the Clinton's do to Matthews back when?

He can't hide his hatred for either one of them.

He also admits that he voted for Bush "the first time," meaning he voted against Gore.

Matthews has thrown all credibility out the window with his attacks on Clinton.  She could be up 10 points in every Iowa poll right now and he'd still be after her, claiming she was tanking.

Re: What did the Clinton's do to Matthews back whe

I've heard him say, "We all make mistakes, I voted for Bush in 2000."  I haven't heard him say he voted for Bush in 2004, if you have a quote I'd appreciate a link.

I thought he went on the Daily Show

before the 2004 election and said that he was going to vote for Kerry. He acted like he was ashamed that he said he was going to vote for Kerry but he did say that he was voting for him....

Re: I thought he went on the Daily Show

There were a lot of moderates who weren't enthused about either candidate.  That doesn't surprise me, but that still contradicts the statement that Matthews voted for Bush twice.

Re: Chris Matthews wants Obama to be next Carter

I don't care how many times Chris Matthews says Hillary Clinton has the worst week he has pretty much made msnbc into a disgraceful channel. He himself can't be bothered with personal dignity.

I do think that Obama has the same characteristics

as Jimmy Carter. I think that's perhaps why some Carter are attracted to Senator Obama's candidacy. The same outsider rhetoric. I think the same personality type too--a passive negative in James David Barber analysis:

WITHDRAWN:

Responds to a sense of duty; avoid power; low self-esteem compensated by service to others; responds rather than initiates; avoids conflict and uncertainty. emphasizes principles and procedures and an aversion to politicking.

I think the overwhelming trait I see from Obama is the emphasis on principles and procedures--all of the bipartisan talk.

As for Matthews, I used to watch him daily and find him amusing. He was on my tivo at one time. No longer. His sexism and animus towards Hillary is just too off-putting for me to watch him any longer....

Re: Chris Matthews wants Obama to be next Carter

Why should he go to Fox? Just because he supports the most progressive candidate over the most moderate and hawkish Democrat in the race? Your logic astounds me.

- You don't know what you are talking about.

Stay away from rhetoric and lapping Matthews words  verbatim and look at their records .

Re: Chris Matthews wants Obama to be next Carter

Most ratings have Obama as the most progressive between the three top candidates.

Re: Chris Matthews wants Obama to be next Carter

I thought it was pretty much neck and neck between he and Hilllary, with Edwards considerably more conservative, no?

Re: Chris Matthews wants Obama to be next Carter

Obama's been slightly more progressive in most of them Hillary has been slightly ahead in a few of them.  At least from what I've seen.  People did blogs on it for awhile, I don't have any links myself, and I don't know where to look.  If people knew where to look I'd hash through the numbers.

Re: Chris Matthews wants Obama to be next Carter

You're right. Obama and Hillary have a very similar voting record that places them both in the middle of the current caucus. The ratings differ depending on what set of rules you use but on average Obama is slightly more progressive. With Edwards having a more conservative record as a senator.

But if you measure by campaign platform Edwards currently has the most progressive platform of the major candidates running.

Re: Chris Matthews wants Obama to be next Carter

The first site that comes up in google for "progressive rankings" is:

http://progressivepatriots.com/senate/11 0byranking.html

They give Obama a 73, along with Boxer, Kennedy and Bernie Sanders. Clinton gets a 60, with Feinstein, Menendez, Mikulski.

Edwards had a decidedly moderate/centrist record when he was there.

Re: Chris Matthews wants Obama to be next Carter

There are about a dozen such rankings. It all depends upon if absentees get counted for or against, if only the voted that are close get counted etc. which bills are considered liberal or progressive. etc.

The time spend in the senate matters as well. Is the senate controlled by republicans or democrats at the time. (thats why you can't compare Edwards with Obama directly as they don't have any overlapping time served.)

I believe, if memory serves correctly, that the ranking you quote was one with the biggest difference between the two.

Re: Chris Matthews wants Obama to be next Carter

I had all the rankings under bookmark but switched computers a while back...

I'm still feeling the loss... :(

Re: Chris Matthews wants Obama to be next Carter

it really is despicable that MSNBC and, in particular, the loathsome Chris Matthews have a constituency among the left. What a pandering, sexist, reactionary, hateful, spiteful, insecure man.

He was the same during the Clinton Admin: every show was hours of bashing Bill and flogging stories like Monica and Vince, etc.

In short: he's a hater. Frankly worse than anyone on Fox. Even O'Reilly, as obnoxious as he is, allows competing points of view on his show (granted he yells at them and calls them pinheads, but at least they can yell back). Matthews controls his guests and refuses to invite them back if they don't toe his line. The woman panelist who suggested his focus on Hilllary's cackle was irrelevant was basically harassed by that loathsome creature for the rest of the show.

Re: Chris Matthews wants Obama to be next Carter

I think Matthews likens Obama to Carter because Carter is the only outsider Democratic candidate in the last 30 years to make it to the white house.  Obama has a legitimate shot at doing what Carter did.  Considering Obama is seen as a quasi-outsider candidate, it sort of fits the mantle.  Not perfect, but to a certain extent it fits.

Re: Chris Matthews

I hate him, which is probably what he wants.  If you can't become a household name by being respected, you can try and do it by being loathsome.
