50 State Canvass: Door Hangers Arriving -- First One Dropped

The first of the Fifty State Canvass door hangers are arriving in locations across the country this week. Here at the DNC, we got our shipment yesterday evening. In total, seven hundred and fifty thousand (750,000) pieces are ready to roll, delivering the Democratic message to the doorsteps Americans from Alaska to Floria, Maine to the Virgin Islands, and California to Michigan. It's an exciting time for the Democratic Party, an undertaking of this magnitute is unprecedented in its size. The coordination between the national party with grassroots activists and state parties is unparalleled in its scope. And the fact that this is all happening a full six months before Election Day is a first for everyone.

We've already had reports that phones at the Florida Democratic Party Headquarters have been ringing off the hook with requests for door hangers. We received an email from the Executive Director of the Wyoming Democratic Party this morning after he received that state's shipment:

We got our door hangers today, and I wanted to say that they look great. They're just a really well done piece for the canvass. Thanks!

At the DNC, we are getting phone calls from those not quite as internet savvy asking how they can sign up to participate and/or host a canvass themselves. It's pretty exciting. We even dropped the first lit-piece early this morning -- right on the door of the Fifty State Strategy's captain, Governor Dean. But there is still a week and a half before Democrats across the country are out in full-force. Plenty of time to find an event and sign-up if you haven't yet. Plenty of time to email your friends and family about the Fifty State Canvass. Plenty of time to write about it on your websites and blogs. Plenty of time to email your favorite bloggers (both local and nationally) and ask them to promote the event. And plenty of time for you to get involved with your local party infrastructure to promote the canvass and make it a reality in your own backyards. After all, that's what this unprecedented cooperation is really all about.

Well, this one will prob. remain visible for a lot longer.

Just processed my monthly payment to the DNC. I never really thought I'd live to see the day when I'd feel comfortable donating to the DNC. What is this world coming to?

Damn you Tim and Howard Dean and all of you who are making the Democratic Party mean something and bringing the party mechanisms back to the people- not only are you robbing me of an org. to complain about, but now I'm a bit poorer each month!

OK Tim, I've got 20 people descending on my house in a couple of days - are they really going to send me 500 door hangers? Or are they going to send me 50 and let me piss off everyone who shows up? Am I supposed to track these down from the state party?

I can't afford to print 500 door hangers plus sign-in sheets plus stickers for the door hangers.

Can you provide any info on how this is going to work?

Depending on what state you are in, you'll get the door hangers sent to you by the state party or directly from the DNC. The plan is to send roughly 25 door hangers per person signed up at each location...and maybe a few more to provide a bit of wiggle room.

I would just call the state party and ask who is coordianting the effort for ILL.

Well, you'll probably end up doing it in pairs, so that's 10 an hour... but I see your point. I'd call the state party and request more for your specific canvass then. Plus, that's the minimum the state's are sending out, you should have many more than that.
