Steve King: Worst Congressman of Them All

Steve King is the guy who said Al Qaeda will be "dancing in the streets" if Obama is elected.

He said that Abu Graib torture "amounts to hazing."

He said that illegal immigrants are responsible for the rapes of 8 American children every day.

Now he's also the chief enabler of the disastrous Iraq War as he shields the War's architects from accountability.

When the brains behind the Iraq War, Doug Feith, is finally subpoenaed and brought before a congressional committee, Steve King ties the hearing in knots and turns it into a circus sideshow.

By the time Feith had spoken his first words, the hearing was nearly an hour old. King and his colleagues went on to declare dozens of objections, parliamentary inquires and points of order, raising concerns about a T-shirt worn by an audience member, a sign spotted in the crowd, and the need for bathroom and lunch breaks for witnesses. Three and a half hours later, Feith had become but an asterisk at what was supposed to be his hanging.

You can get rid of Steve King. His opponent is Rob Hubler. He's on ActBlue.

King is a wreck and a backbencher hack who didn't have the huevos to take on Tom Harkin.

With a Democratic tide in Iowa, it's possible he could get wiped out in November.

King led the charge against naming a post office in Berkley, California against the local congress woman's mentor, a community activist. Somehow, King felt the woman was too leftist, un american, etc. For Bekeley? How he got over 200 Republican drones to vote against this, I have no idea. They should have real uses for their time. Like naming every park bench and paving stone in the country after Ronald Reagan.

The bad news is that King's fifth district is the only one in Iowa with a real Republican slant. It will get more moderate as Iowa loses a congressman in the next census but Boswell's age make it more than likely that his district goes and both King and especially Latham have their districts moved east a bit and Loesback and Braley move west.

Latham is the more vulnerable now and he will become even more vulnerable in 2012. Unfortunately, King is more likely to stay.

I forgot that post office thing

I agree with you in part, but King is probably more vulnerable this year than he will be in any other year.

1) Little enthusiasm among the wingnuts for McCain

2) Little organization in IA for McCain

3) higher turnout for Dems in a presidential year

4) complacency about King's seat being safe

5) King has a lot less cash on hand than Latham

I know Hubler is a longshot candidate, but I think he's not a hopeless candidate. R+8 is tough, but not insurmountable given the lack of help King will get from the top of the ticket.

He's really bad, but not sure that idiot Patrick Henry isn't worse.

Everytime I see him on Cspan, I keep thinking "are the guy from National Lampoon writing this for him?"

He is like a parody of a southern right wing idiot, only he is for real.

I think we take King and Henry, and see if they want to volunteer for testing JUST how secure Mosul is.

King is vulnerable. Earlier polling showed Obama in the lead in the Fifth CD. And Hubler is running a better campaign by far than Becky Greenwald (IA-4) thus far.

What Hubler does not have is money. The DCCC is ignoring him, he isn't on anyone's Blue to Orange list. I don't understand it, because his positions on issues and his personal history make him a candidate for Netroots attention, and his high-profile uber-wingnut opponent would make him a sweet win for the Democrats.

Thanks for writing about him. I've met him, and he has a great progressive heart, he's smart, and he worked for both Dick Clark and Tom Harkin, so he's no political neophyte.
