Palin tried to censor books: ABC Investigates

So Brian Ross of ABC investigated today. Take a look. This is no longer a myth or urban legend. People are now on the record.

So it is now indisputable that Palin wanted to remove some books from the shelf (seditious literature anyone?) and she did try to fire the librarian on this issue. People have spoken on record. Now the question is simple do we want to bring this quasi-fascist thuggery to the White House?

Little by little the layers of deceit are being peeled of the pork-queen of Alaska and her mummified and thoroughly dishonorable running mate. NY Times exposed her sham of a gas pipeline, Fact Check went on the record to chastise them and Washington Post openly questions McCain's honor. Do these people have no shame. Read about all these here.

Tips/Recs

Are we gonna see bonfires of unwanted books from the Library of Congress on the White House lawn?

Re: Tips/Recs

Nah, she's just going to spinoff the National Archives into a private enterprise and ask about whether the LoC can't get a simpler code system. She's gonna SHAKE THINGS UP!!!

Sarah Palin is Peggy Hill.

except

Peggy Hill is against book banning.

Unfortunately.....

this will be overshadowed by the kid gloves Gibson will use against her tonight and the "passable" job she will do repeating talking points.

Time to focus on McSame and his horrible policies. I'm so tired of this campaign coming down to tire gauges and lipstick tubes.

Re: Unfortunately.....

from what I hear the Gibson interview will be something like Barbara Walters...so much for tough questions.

Re: Palin tried to censor books: ABC Investigates

I still think we're smarter to focus on McCain instead of Palin, or better yet, focus on Obama and the positive things he offers.  But this story is useful when someone brings up the "she keeps her religion out of politics" argument, which I've heard a few times.

Someone who gets elected mayor on the strength of her church's support, and then immediately starts looking into banning gay-friendly books that her church dislikes, is not someone who keeps religion out of politics.  And the James Dobsons of the world tend to want stuff from Washington that's a little more serious than a few banned books.

Re: Palin tried to censor books: ABC Investigates

I will look away from Palin but as Mark Halperin said we know the other candidates for many months and years and we have 60 days to find out about someone who is right now the de facto head of the Republican ticket and might even become the president sooner than we expect. These are legitimate questions and I am glad people are looking into them.

Palin is the cause of McCain's "surge"

and that needs to be addressed.

We learned during the Wright dustup that ignoring things does not make them go away, and the support this woman has brought to the GOP ticket needs to be rebutted.  This story (while I would avoid the bacon references) is accurate, precise, correct, valid, and the kind of thing that makes moderate folks (and pretty well anyone not screaming-far-right) recoil in horror.

Kudos for posting this.  If you feel like it, cross-post it at motleymoose.com, DKOS and elsewhere.

Um...

"pork-queen of Alaska" ???

These double entendre pig references on Palin really thrill everybody here.

I'm puzzled.

Re: Um...

hey McCain campaign brought up the pig fracas, and given Palin's record on pork I have decided to embrace it.

Of course we don't

But we better find a way to make some of these truths stick lest we suffer another upset like the last two.  How do we win the majority of the Independents back...that is the question that must be answered and quickly.

Re: Palin tried to censor books: ABC Investigates

Surely the Wasilla librarian wouldn't mind recording a 60-second spot on first-amendment rights, academic freedom, separation of church and state, and resistance to censorship.  It can run during Banned Books week, Sept. 27 - Oct. 4.  It could prove helpful in the libertarian-leaning states (e.g., Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, New Hampshire) that are not as securely in the Democratic column as they once were.

Re: Palin tried to censor books: ABC Investigates

here's the thing, people know she is a thug (yeah I will call it the way I see it) and no average person wants to make an enemy (esp someone who is known to be mean and vindictive) of the sitting governor of the state who might just one day become the VP. It look a lot of courage for these people to go on the record which makes this report all the more credible.

Re: Palin tried to censor books: ABC Investigates

OK ... surely it wouldn't be too hard to find someone else willing to make the same points.  And if the Wasilla librarian is already an enemy of the governor, what else does she have to lose?

hey I am all for it if someone can get her on camera.

Re: Palin tried to censor books: ABC Investigates

That would be wonderful.  Let's drive a wedge between the libertarians (little "l") and the fundies.
