That's just so funny. Oh man, not one of the 120 republicans on stage measured up to Edwards.
That's great. How truly classic.
At one point, she suggests that Duncan Hunter might be the closest Republican to her - and he's arguably the most hardcore wingnut up there. But if not him, gosh, how about John Edwards, in my book the most liberal of the major candidates!
I wonder when people will start to get the point that it's not a simple left-right spectrum where you're either moving towards the left and losing votes, or moving towards the center and gaining votes. That's not how most people tick.
hunter doesn't get but two minutes in the debate and he looks non-menacing and doesn't sound like giuliani or tancredo.
so i can see low information voters not knowing his policies
The reality is that he might have said one thing that resonated with this voter and sometimes that's all it takes for a person to think "yeah, I can trust this guy."
Most people don't start off by saying "I'm a liberal" or "I'm a conservative" and then running down a checklist of 30 issues to see if the candidate adheres more closely to the conservative or liberal line. That's not how their brains are wired.
My Democratic dad was watching the debate last night. (I didn't watch, because I don't like horror movies, and my alma mater was playing on ESPN.) "Who's this Ron Paul person?" he asked me. I kinda tried to explain, he was a bit confused.
"Well, what's the North American Union?" he asked. I told him it was this crazy theory that the US, Canada and Mexico are all going to get together and form one big government. He seemed even more baffled.
"Dad, remember the LaRouchies?" I said. "This is the guy they all support now." That, he understood.
real americans must have been confused by the GOP debate.
Go John, Go Dems. the rethugs are fools; somebody needed to say it.
What struck me is that in a room full of republicans, this woman said she might vote for Edwards and not one boo or moan can be heard.
What do think the response would have been if she had said other democratic candidate's names?
Edwards certainly doesn't elicit the anger from the republican voters that some other Dem candidates do.
You need to lighten up. The person was obviously joking and even said she was joking (i.e. j/k).
yup, my Republican counterpart family members (1 of which is from NYC), basically support Rudy Guiliani, disapprove of the job Bush has done, had a conversation about this. They basically said "Well I want the nominee to be Hillary because I think we can beat her, but if I wanted a Democrat to be president I'd want John Edwards", all were automatically turned off from Hillary, and all showed skepticism for Obama (the "Not ready for Primetime" spiel).
The so called "Reagan Democrats"? or are you all too young? This woman represents that very mailable demographic. Typically middle class, independent minded, a solid Democratic constituency until Reagan.
These are the very people who will put Democrats back in power and with a spine, if we have the common sense to nominate someone they can vote for.
Edwards is such a hypocrite and phony, it would not surprise me four years from now after he loses if he doesn't come back trying to get the Republican nomination. He will do or say anything to be President.
