Rhodes was over-the-top often, but she was passionate and entertaining. I disagree that liberal talk radio is not entertaining. That is an old right-wing trope. The truth is, liberal radio voices are boycotted by big advertisers and locked out of choice frequencies by the corporate media monopoly.
I have been a steward, area steward and a contract negotiator for an SEIU local. I have put my blood sweat and tears into representing my brothers and sisters in my local. I have seen first-hand how SEIU operates. Once they have taken over a local, any independent voices are quashed, dues are jacked up and the money goes out of the local into SEIU.
All of this "Market Share" bullshit is MBA speak to try and hustle the yokels. So spare me. Organizing is done on the ground through local action and other actual forms of representation. SEUI is a political entity paid for out of the dues of its members.
Most of SEIU's growth over the last decade has been from poaching off of other Unions. As a worker who has been a "dues unit" for SEIU for the better part of three decades I find their complaints ironic. Ask the workers at CSEA how responsive their union is to their concerns. Andy Stern is championed as a "labor leader", he is nothing but an empire building hack.
I think you are getting at something that has been bugging me for at least a month. The leadership in the Senate seems to want to give only lip service to progressive movement. I wonder if the place to start dealing with this issue is to identify who is with us and who is against. I know you have named Carol Shea-Porter and Rahm, Steny and Harry. Lets begin to keep a scorecard. This will help identify those we need to educate.
When I heard about the comment, why haven't the Democrats been hittting this hard all along. My second reaction was that the eunuchs of the so-called liberal establishment will cringe at the confrontation. And sure as shit, listening to Alex Bennett this morning on Sirius, he had dutifully internalized the Rovian talking points. How many others will come out and do the same thing. I'm sure the Wurlitzer's Rolodex's are humming while the search is on to have so-called liberals call bad on Kerry. I'm sure we will here Holy-Joe tsk tsk Kerry for being so uncivil.
When will these pansies get it. The criminal clique in the White House plays by street rules, not the Marquis of Queensbury. The only way to beat these guys is to pick up a stick and beat them over the head. Kerry has been handed that stick, he should use it now and use it often and not only on Bush but his enablers in the media. Kerry has the opportunity to declare the beginning of the 08 campaign by unleashing an onslaught of blunt truths. He has the microphone, will he use it.
Be careful of those cash on hand numbers, the NRCC is spending a lot of money here. I get a NRCC hit piece on Busby almost every day. I was wondering why they were spending so much money. I guess now I know.
Wouldn't the Fairness Doctrine apply to broadcast channels only? Since Faux News is a cable operation they would be exempt.
I would like to see a return to the Fairness Doctrine, but we still need to build an alternative progressive media infrastructure to ensure that there is an alternative to the conservative narrative that has dominated for the last twenty years.
I look at this from another direction. That the Republican nominee is at 45% is really pathetic in this district. It really shows that the base is not pleased with the nominee. In addition, the indies in this district (and many Republicans) are really Libertarians. The NSA thing might be the trigger to move more of that group to Busby.
It will be a moral victory. The real wild card here in Escondido and San Marcos is the Hispanic vote. They are a huge portion of the population. If they come out and Francine wins some of our neighbors (Darryl Issa) will have had a really bad night.
I got one of the hit pieces in the mail. My impression is that it was a tactic to suppress vote. It basically said that Francine was sleazy, assumed that you knew they were sleazy and all in all why bother to vote when they are all sleazes. Too bad I had already voted, would have enjoyed voting for Francine all the more after seeing that little piece of shit.
Actually, Bilbray would be an ideal opponent. He is tainted by the same money that brought down Duke. This is a good fit for the anti-corruption theme Busby is running.
I still think the poll stinks. And the local PBS station is much more right-wing than most. And it is a part of the good-old-boys network that runs this town. Don't be fooled.
Two thoughts: Competetive Edge is a Republican operation. My son worked for them and could not believe some of the stuff they did in terms of push poling and the obvious Republican bias. Secondly, Bilbray is definitely the establishment candidate, therefore Competetive Edge would find a way to support him.
I live in CA 50. Busby got 38% against Duke last time in a bad year for Dems. It just does not make any sense that she would be less than that this time. This feels like a Bilbray funded effort to dry up his oppositions funding.

When did Bob Shrum take over the campaign?

What will be interesting is when the Republican "realists" make this connection and toss Bush aside.

Kerry just let Karl make him his Bitch again. What a putz!
