Re: Topics for a myDD debate...

Well, what, in particular? I think they're both on the same side of this issue, but what would you suggest specifically they talk about?

Re: Topics for a myDD debate...
-repealing the "late term" abortion bill
-also, promoting women rights around the world.  Women, regardless of race or religion, are still oppressed.
-Gay marriage - MA recognizes and performs marriages for gays.  Barring a federal law which recognizes gay marriages in all states, at least recognize that those married in MA and who move to other states, are married.  Just like straight marriages are recognized in other states - it doesn't matter what state you are married in.  Did that make sense or did I just make it more confusing?
-allow gays to serve openly in the military.

Re: Topics for a myDD debate...

Actually, very good points and issues there!

by ragekage 2008-04-26 03:45PM | 0 recs
I think they are both on the same side as far

women's rights both support equal pay measures, both are very fiercely pro-choice, both seem to be in favor of an agenda that is favorable to women (if there are any differences please inform me since I will freely admit I am not on top of this issue like I am on medical reform and foreign policy).

I have GLBT issues on the list which covers all issues of gay rights as far as I can see.

Re: Topics for a myDD debate...

Thanks for the bump, Doc, I appreciate it.

I think we should bring in a way to discuss the electability meme somehow, fairly. Seems to be a very popular thing to bring up around here; but even though I brought up the idea of a debate, I'm not sure how to broach this exactly.

by ragekage 2008-04-26 03:35PM | 0 recs
I think that

would be very hard to bring up in a non-biased way as supporters on both sides will use unfair attacks.

Maybe stating why they think there own candidate is electable and not referencing the other candidate at all during this.  We don't need crap like flag-pins or Bosnia brought into this.

Oh another issue.

Governmental reform

Re: I think that

I agree that it would be very hard to do fairly.  And really, this debate is supposed to serve as the electability argument, isn't it?  It's an opportunity to explain our candidates' positions and hopefully show why that would appeal to more voters.

Re: Topics for a myDD debate...

Uh, I don't see anything about flag pins or sniper fire on your list.

I thought this was gonna be a DEBATE?!?

Re: Topics for a myDD debate...

Democracy

Is it the party or the voter who should control issues like when primaries are held and how they count?

by DTaylor 2008-04-26 03:51PM | 0 recs
Re: Topics for a myDD debate...

Well, this isn't really conducive to building dialog with each side... besides, the Democratic party is a private organization and can decide to conduct business however they please. We can change it for the future, but your statement still is a bit rhetorical and ad hominem-y.

Actually

I think this is a valid point, it will take the debate away from issues but we should say who sponsored each question, that way everyone would know who brought that up.

Re: Actually

Heh. Good point.

Re: Topics for a myDD debate...
  • Unilateral support for Israel
  • You might already have this in mind, but under "education funding," how about a discussion about who should pay for special schooling for students with learning disabilities?  Schools, States, or Federal?
  • Gun control

All good options.

Re: Topics for a myDD debate...

Veteran affairs and veteran support in general! I really do want to hear more from Obama supporters in general about this.

- How to address a bloated bureaucracy that is an ancient relic.

  • how to address the continued underreporting and under-treatment of veteran mental health issues.
  • Why are there so many homeless veterans?

Etc. This is an issue long ignored.

Re: have vet. health care up there but will

Thanks for the add; I noticed it on the list but wanted to add my voice to it. Otherwise, looks like a good list.

I was eating

a strawberry edy's bar at the time and they are too good to set down.

But hey, I dig the 21st century GI Bill.  I dig a reform of the VA.

Re: Topics for a myDD debate...

Supposedly all the homeless veterans are welcome to come live with Bill O'Reilly.

"[I]f you know where there's a veteran sleeping under a bridge, you call me immediately, and we will make sure that man does not do it, is not there."

Re: Topics for a myDD debate...

This is disgusting and untrue. I see at least 5 homeless veterans on my way to and from work every day. He come to Washington DC sometime.

Re: Topics for a myDD debate...

He's a liar and a mean-spirited person.  He's selfish and only cares about ratings.  In my heart of hearts, I hope that he is somehow a better person in private than he is on air.  I hope the same thing about Limbaugh.  But I'm not holding my breath in either case.

by ProgressiveDL 2008-04-26 05:41PM | 0 recs
Re: Topics for a myDD debate...

Honestly, I think they're both godawful. But Limbaugh is far, far worse.
