I think this makes a pretty good point.

I think when Obama wins these states it will be because of superior campaigning than momentum.

I think that on a personal level Edwards dislikes Clinton and Obama dislikes edwards.

So I think that any such wheeling and dealing wont come from the top.

  • Certainly edwards is a better candidate than Robert Gibbs.  I'd totally vote for him over Robert Gibbs.

  • Obama is pressing him now because he thinks that he can directly point out the difference between Edward's rhetoric and his actions not just in the past but now as well.

Edwards largely has gone under the radar as far as criticisms go and in my opinion obama rightly believes that he can get the people undecided between edwards and Obama with these criticisms.

Its a good move in my opinion.  If Obama makes it a debate between him and edwards then he excludes clinton.  Whom is a much bigger threat than edwards.

If it can remove the value in health insurance that makes transitioning to universal healthcare a lot easier.

The free rider concept isn't going to cost us any extra when we already spend more on public healthcare than any other nation in the world.

We already have free riders.  We just currently have a very inefficent free rider system.

I disagree with this notion of how politics work.

If Obama runs against a mandate he will have a strong insurance against Harry and Louise adds (IE he will say he doesn't want to control your care because he opposed mandates)

That will make it easier, not harder to cover everyone because people will trust Obama more on the subject.

I think a lot of opposition for Obama stems from similar ideas and well frankly Obama's way works great for getting progressive legislation passed.

  • I am working on some software algorithms that will hopefully address this problem in some software I am writing.

It will probably stifle some dissent(or at least move it), but as shown here some dissent is worth stifling.

  • Hopefully next time the OP will be more fair and balanced and not just accurately represent the state right now.

    Putting into perspective

Number of serious black or women candidates
    2008     2
    2004     0
    2000     0
    1996     0
    1992     0
    1988     0
    1984     0
    1980     0

This will be a historic election regardless so it is no surprise that a field of white guys would attract less interest than a field that better represents America.

It would be interesting to see if these solidly democratic districts are filled with more conservative democrats.  Which would explain why they elect people like Al Wynn

  • I am an Obama supporter and I wouldn't expect him to be any less ruthless.  If someone can't deal with an unfair attack we should know that now instead of later.

Its an interesting race.  Hillary being the clear favorite among the largest of democratic groups make her start off in a good position.  Edwards being the opposite of her and Obama because of his conservative record.

Obama's path to victory is pretty much what it always was.  The insurgent campaign that in some way topples existing thinking and wins.  Hillary however has proven her experience and Obama will have to prove his ability in channels not decided by the media.

Either Hillary or Obama winning would be fine with me.  Trying to look for differences between the two is like trying to read tea leaves.  Certainly there will be large differences.  But at this point I don't think anyone can say clearly what those would be aside from the obvious race, gender historic firsts.

Personally I wish that all supporters who post diaries like this would move over to john edwards.

  • on a comment on The Edwards Difference, Part II over 4 years ago

Actually I think the actual difference is that Edwards just isn't nearly as good a candidate as Dean was.

Dailykos for example has a lot of support for edwards, but you don't see websites actually endorsing him because they don't trust him.  Obama is also widely supported and in my opinion more strongly supported (instead of being the anti candidate)

So I think that dailykos does have influence.  It just is that no one really likes edwards.  Even the people who support him based on policy grounds or the fact that hes a white man.

The main problem with such arguments is that the democratic party tends to see such arguments as "I don't care about liberal social issues one bit and you shouldn't either."

It only appeals to the people who aren't affected by such issues.
