Team O'bama needs to pony up.

    This was extremely poorly handled.

So far the guy is all talk and no action. Very disappointing.

  • Watergate? How soon do we start the impeachment hearings, because frankly most of us in the blogsphere have been aware of just how bad things were for years.

They need to go down and they need to go down hard. Does anyone here think that if they aren't physically removed from office that things will get any better over the next 21 months? Can you really imagine without the direct pressure of impeachment and subpoena that the executive won't turn into a giant naked kleptocracy? How many years to unravel the current mess, let alone the bullshit that they are working on in dark back rooms now? Once its obvious the entire executive is acting 24/7 in bad faith and that republican leadership and their press faithful will cover for them rather than serve the nation, its thunderdome.

And frankly its the core logic of the Bush/Cheney cult that makes this single elimination politics necessary, they can't let anything else exist that they don't directly control. Which begs the question, why do so many alpha males in the republican party fight to essentially be house servants and field servants for these people? Do elected republicans think of themselves as professional slaves? Does Arlen Spectre brag to his core supporters that he is George Bush Jr's Bitch?

I say bring it on. Total war.

BTW: I really think we should bring back the Abu Ghraib stuff from 2004, that nobody wanted to touch, because it shows just how empty this whole show has been from the start. Just show people what these maniacs really stand for. The public needs to see whats behind the masks these people hide behind.

What's the other option? Do things get better if we do not impeach, investigate, censor and convict? No. Bush/Cheney has worked very hard to prevent any type of diplomacy or negotiation foreign powers are exactly the same to them as domestic opposition, they say so themselves - angrily and publicly; all the time. What they have essential done is declared THEMSELVES enemy combatants to the American public at large. They projected an outrage at those who would undermine the freedoms the American system while all the time doing exactly that from their offices of power.

The republicans started the nation down this road in 1992, when they refused to change in the face of overwhelming loss. Rather than end a failed ideology they became cultists. They have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is no possible way to co-exist with them. We've tried for 15 years to find a way, and they have used each attempt at civility as an excuse for "date rape" as Norquist will pleasantly tell anyone who will listen.

Fuck em. Rip em out Root and Branch. Root and Branch.

  • comment on a post Is Impeachment of Alberto Gonzales Possible? over 5 years ago

Let's not forget AG Daugherty and the Teapot Dome Scandal.

Daugherty was nearly impeached in 1923, and Sen Wheeler's investigation forced him to step down, as he was to be found guilty.

The fallout from the Daugherty disaster was that the Supreme Court reaffirmed Congressed Constitutional authority to compel testimony in the McGrain v. Daugherty case of 1927.

This scandal coupled with the things Gonzales has done while in office. Stopping investigations through coercion, replacements, promotions, etc. makes Teapot look like a tea party.

The real question is not can he be impeached. Which he can and will if the president continues is foot dragging. It's who will be his replacement.

In a just world it would be Fitzgerald, Comey or someone of their ethical and professional Character. Congress should indicate their pick to the white house. Wheeler had two appointees knocked down after Daugherty stepped down until a compromise candidate could be reached.

The Harding and Coolidge eras are an excellent analogue for the problems that we currently have.

  • comment on a post Contextualizing the Fox News Fight over 5 years ago

    Matt and team My DD,

Good for Team Edwards! Kudos. They are now my front runner for 2008.

The real solution to the Fox News propaganda machine is to threaten to revoke foreign ownership of media companies. If Newt Gingrich hadn't open the door for this we wouldn't be here. Coincidence that he gets so much air play on that network?

Fox is not accountable precisely because their ownership is not US based. I think we've all had enough of their BS at this point. How would Fox fight this on the air? They going to stand up for Foreign Ownership of their network to an audience that opposed immigration? Let them wast energy doing this.

They have not been serving the public interest for some time. It is questionable that if they ever really did. Even if ownership is not revoked across the board, Fox has to pay price for having explicitly chosen the wrong side.

When you run these polls you might want to include the intrade options contract prices on these candidates as well. They are a good verifier of poll accuracy.

  • Hey Jonathan, Chris or Matt,

Could you post your opinions on the ins and outs of
Section 220 of S. 1, the lobbying reform bill currently before the Senate

These guys are claiming blogs will have to register as lobbies.

  • Iran and or Syria should trigger impeachment proceedings. We have more than enough stuff right now go preemptive on them. Just force them out of office ahead of time for the reasons their own doctrine sets down.

  • comment on a post A Dead National Dialogue over 5 years ago

    Matt,

What are you whining about? It's time to phonebank the dems. We elected em. We want them to reign in the executive. They have the power of the purse. Everyone needs to get on the phone tomorrow and everyday after to make them understand we want this warshit to end. There's more of us then there are backers of the "escalation". We need to make it really ugly. We need to force the dems to make it really ugly.

This is exactly the time you make the big money as the house. Bush has everything at stake. You can see the fear in his eyes. All dems have to do is stand up and say no.

If the blogsphere is to matter we have to be loud and unified when our own people are off the reservation. If we can't police our own we are no better than the rightwing zombies. It's time to make our voices heard. More Americans agree with us now then they did on election day.

  • The "population" shifts are over blown. Look closely at the data and you will see a lot of padding in the "growth states." This is an issue well worth investigating in minute detail.

  • comment on a post Ted Kennedy Introduces Bill to Stop the Surge over 5 years ago

    Good for the Tedster!

We need to force the administration to justify itself completely to Congress and the public. The Bush Op-Ed in the WSJ coupled with his mail stealing signing statement indicate the administration has not returned to reality yet. It's long past time for some oversight of this rogue administration.

  • comment on a post The Next Chairman of the DCCC over 5 years ago

I think this like the committee leadership appointments should be closely observed and discussed to bring the blogsphere up to speed. By 2008 we should have a good sense of the inside baseball of these positions and be able field and support candidates effectively.

In ten years the blogsphere should be collectively an expert on these issues. Having these positions, their tasks, and their responsibilities up for publc discussions, analysis, and participation can only be for the good.

  • It should be no surprise that the existing Christian talking head leadership is against social justice and service based ministry. It's a lot easier to take people's money on sunday while moralizing and making the audience feel good about who they are not, or at least claim not to be.

However there remains a larger group of Christians of many denominations who are not represented by this empty talk, who see a direct connection between the welfare of their neighbors and their religious self-worth. The spontaneous movement to rescind the unfair tax burdens of Alabama on RELIGIOUS grounds are a key indicator of the health of this movement.

Christianity has a rich history of progressivism and has only become a divisive and easily manipulated force in America over the last 40 years. There was much effort, planning and coordination from heavy republican donors and what were emerging American religious leaders to make this happen. It wasn't an overnight process. And undoing it will not be a one election cycle process.

Democrats can siphon off the parts of the bodies interested in what are liberal issues by reaching out to these population, in spite of open hostility from existing very republican leadership.

If you really want a 50 state strategy, then you need to court progressive southerners both black and white, many of whom will be heavily devout Christians.

Many of the "Christian" leaders are ripe for challenge, each have their secret problems as the fall of Haggard has demonstrated.

People dissed the blogs the first election cycle when there were few successes. People dissed liberal talk radio when its initial successes were achieved through much effort. And much like the recent ABC memo showing coordinating corporate advertising boycotts of Air America, it should be no surprise that similar groups are trying to prevent the coming emergence of Christian progressives.

I would say that this issue is far from over.

Pelosi has just announced for Murtha according to Josh Marshall. I think that was our consensus as well.  If Pelosi wants Murtha she gets Murtha.

Pelosi had the vision to embrace us now its our turn to help her.

It's time for MyDD to find out which representatives we need to call to make sure Murtha has the votes he needs. Put up a list of reps lets start the phone banking.
