Al Gore is not running for president. Really.

Al Gore today issued the closest thing he's said yet to an absolute statement he's not running for President in 2008:

LONDON (AFP) - Former US vice-president Al Gore reiterated here that he does not intend to run for president in 2008 -- though he did not entirely rule out doing so further in the future.

Gore, now an environmental campaigner... said: "I don't have plans to be a candidate again and though I haven't... completely ruled out any possibility of running at some point in the future I don't expect to and cannot perceive circumstances in which I would."

This is spoken in Politician, but I don't think even the most optimistic reading possible could interpret this to mean anything better than "maybe in 2016".

Re: Al Gore is not running for president. Really.

I happen to think he's not running, but what he says is pretty meaningless. Were he running, it would be in his strategic interest to deny it. The longer he stays out of the race, the better (up to a point). Denials like these, where he leaves the door open just a crack, work to his advantage.

Re: Al Gore is not running for president. Really.

At least once a week I see these diaries with firm, definitive titles, yet when you click on them it's always the exact same stuff inside.  I guess no one would click if the titles were honest.

Gore rules out 2008 US presidential run

LONDON (AFP) - Former US vice-president Al Gore reiterated here that he does not intend to run for president in 2008 -- though he did not entirely rule out doing so further in the future

Gore, now an environmental campaigner, ran for president in 2000 against the incumbent George W. Bush, but lost the race amid a bitter dispute over electoral votes in the state of Florida.

He said: "I don't have plans to be a candidate again and though I haven't... completely ruled out any possibility of running at some point in the future I don't expect to and cannot perceive circumstances in which I would."

Gore was speaking alongside Virgin chief Richard Branson at the launch of the Virgin Earth Challenge, a 25-million-dollar science and techology prize to encourage a viable technology to remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.

Gore served as vice president in the Democratic administration of Bill Clinton.

With all due respect

this isn't worth a diary.  That is basically the same exact quote Al has been running out there for months now (I'm convinced it's scripted).  Notice how in the quote there is no mention of 2008 - hence why the mainstream media is WRONG in saying something like, "Former US vice-president Al Gore reiterated here that he does not intend to run for president in 2008 -- though he did not entirely rule out doing so further in the future."  How can you say he has no intention of running in '08 but is leaving the door open after that when Al has made no mention of any timetable whatsoever!?  Notice how the title of the article is DEAD wrong too.

He has ALWAYS left the door slightly open when discussing presidential aspirations.  Please, don't perpetuate these lies.
