OBAMA: You Can Be A Democrat For One Day

Seems there's a New Political Party: the Obamacrats

In Nevada Barack Obama has put out a flyer reading, in part, "You Can Be A Democrat for A Day." It's a plea to caucus for Obama, even if you just become a Democrat for one day.

A copy of the flyer can be see here:

http://www.taylormarsh.com/archives_view .php?id=26826

You can be a Democrat for one day.

Vote for Obama and then return to your voting status as you chose

Everyone regardless of party is welcome to be a Democrat for one day and vote.

Republicans, Independents, Everyone, you can make THE difference.

If you think a Democrat will win in November and you don't want Hillary you can come to the Democratic Caucus and vote for Obama.

Jauaury 19. 11 to 1 p.m

What can ya say? My God, each day brings more shocks that show just how Obama's campaign is willing to do ANYTHING to win.  Even destroy the entire meaning of our Party's caucuses and Primary system.  My God.

And that little thing about implying that President and Senator Clinton and a ever growing list of democratic leaders {and NH voters} are racists and so ...dividing our beloved Party along racial lines.  Oh that...

To quote a great old Democrat from the olden days:

"Have they no shame.  Have they no sense of decency?"

There is nothing on either of those flyers saying it is from the Obama campaign.

Other than the name and phone number of Obama's precinct captain, I suppose you're right.

Re: OBAMA: You Can Be y

I saw that but that does mean that the Obama campaign approved these. You see, if the Obama put this flyer out, then it would say "Paid for by..." which it cleary doesn't.

I'm not saying Obama staffers don't know about it but it is obviously not been put out by the Obama campaign as has been implied on this post.

yup it is pretty skanky

not only are democrats racists according to Obama, but right wing haters should screw up our primary so that we get a nominee who is not supported by the majority of his own party.

Re: OBAMA: You Can Be A Democrat For One Day

Obama is going to have a tough time in those closed primaries that only allow Registered Democrats to vote on. About half the states on Feb 5 only allow Democrats to participate.

Please add the Florida version, which has been up since April.

People are brushing off the Nevada flyer as being an isolated thing, unknown to the Real Campaign, and quickly stopped. But www.obamaflorida2008.com has had this thing up since April. Re: OBAMA: You Can Be A Democrat For One Day

I know all those who responded so far are Hillary supporters but I don't see a problem with this.

This is politics and if a state has an open primary then this is what people will do.

Those independent voters made a difference in the Presidential general election in 1980, 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2004. Being a big-tent party isn't that bad of an idea.

Re: OBAMA: You Can Be A Democrat For One Day

But he is not asking them to join the Party; he is asking them to perform the identity of a Democrat for a day for the sole purpose of derailing a Democrat.

Godalmighty, how hysterically funny

Obama is not trying to derail a democrat.  He's trying to elect one, himself.

If we let independents vote...

...In our primary, then what exactly is the point of being associated with the Democratic Party.

Independents get to vote in the general election AFTER the Democratic and Republican parties pick their nominees.

by Andre Walker 2008-01-14 12:06PM | 0 recs
Re: OBAMA: You Can Be A Democrat For One Day

It's one thing to reach out beyond the party in an attempt to build a big tent.

It's quite another thing to invite outsiders to "join for one day" because they dislike Hillary.

You're right that this is politics.  And putting a request like this in writing is politically stupid.

There are 2 kinds of people

One sees the rules and thinks: How can I work with those to achieve my objectives?  These people are motivated by Obama

Others see the rules and think:  How unfair! How wrong!! Those rules SUCK!!! I'm pissed as hell that someone is smarter than me.  Those are Hillary-bots.  Hillary-bots are unable to work with new situations.

It's too bad. This is a wonderful new opportunity.

Re: OBAMA: You Can Be A Democrat For One Day

This is hilarious:

Buchanan told ABC News that after leaving about 100 of the fliers in mail slots and doors yesterday he realized the message he was sending was "negative."

"This is not Obama," he says he thought to himself.

So after dropping off around 100 fliers calling on Hillary-haters to change their registration for a day, Obama's precinct captain suddenly realizes how wrong it is to make such a negative appeal.

What a touching story.  I'm reminded of Mike Huckabee telling the press about his courageous decision not to run that negative ad in Iowa, even as he showed it to all of them.

find ways to work to win.

Hillary and her supporters find ways to bitch, moan, kvetch, complain, and otherwise do nothing but annoy real Democrats.

It's really kind of pitiful.  You'd think that the Big Tent Party would welcome new attendees, and would open our arms to these seekers after truth. But, not Hillary-bots.

Re: OBAMA: You Can Be A Democrat For One Day

This was actually started by a group of Obama activists in Florida in about February of 2007 who kept hearing folks tell them that they liked Obama but were registered as Independents or Republicans.  In fact, they started using the word "Obamacrat" and did so trying to mobilize his supporters in Florida.  While I am a registered Democrat and have been since the day I turned 18, I know the folks who got this started and I can pledge to you that they are good solid Democrats.  By all means, they want people to maintain their registration as Democrats, but it was not an end-all.  As far as who is running the operation in Nevada I have no idea, but I think this is an incredibly intelligent move by Obama's campaign to harness all of his support in the state and across the country and use the electoral rules to his advantage.

by freepursuits 2008-01-14 01:40PM | 0 recs
You are right

100 %

These hillary-bots are great at bitching, moaning, complaining, kvetching, and bitching.

They aren't good at winning, it seems.

I like this idea.  Bring in new people  Get them to vote Democratic.

It's good that it's with Obama people.  If they caucused with Hillary-bots, they would be nauseated and bilious, and never vote DLCemocratic again.

by dataguy 2008-01-14 07:26PM | 0 recs
I might strongly dislike Republicans

but I can't imagine spending 2 hours to go caucus for a Republican--I don't care how much I can't stand them. Wouldn't people have better things to do with their Saturdays? Especially in the middle of the day? Do people even Republicans hate Hillary that much that they would give up the middle of their Saturday to stand in a room to caucus for Obama? This distribution of the flyer seems really dumb.

by ademption 2008-01-14 02:53PM | 0 recs
Wonderful!!!

I love this. Obama is bringing more to the party every caucus.  Of course, its tremendously threatening to the Hillary-bots.

I feel sorry for you clueless dweebs who cannot think outside the box.  Obama finds ways to work with the rules, Hillary-bots find ways to whine, bitch, moan and complain.  Hillary and her supporters are unable to think creatively.

Gosh, if they can't beat Obama fair and square, what will she do with a real problem?

"Buchanan says the Obama campaign didn't know about his flier. "I've been trying to reach them today, but Obama's in Reno today so it's been tough to reach them," he says.

Neither the Obama nor Clinton campaigns commented to ABC News."

The guy doesn't work for the campaign does he?  No, he doesn't.  He volunteered to do his precinct. Why would you repeat this as done personally at the direction of Obama?  Why is your post so fact free?  This is sooo far behind the curve over at Salon they're already laughing.  http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/i ndex.html

Obama spokesman Burton on the flier: "We've learned that one individual who volunteers for the campaign was making the flyer and we've instructed him to stop creating and distributing it. But make no mistake, we want as many independents and Republicans to become Democrats and help to build a new governing majority in this country."

You don't want them to become Democrats: you want them to help you defeat Sen. Clinton.

Let me ask you to be a little more open-minded and accepting.  I'm a Clinton supporter, too, but Clinton will not be elected without the support of most of the people who are supporting Obama now.

The flyer is heinous, but there is zero evidence that Obama or his campaign was behind it.  They've done all that they can reasonably be asked to do, which is renounce it.

Cut 'em some slack, please.  Clinton doesn't need supporters who can't interact positively and cooperatively with the rest of the party.  When it boils down to it, all us Democrats are in this thing together.

You are confused or something

If you were a real Hillary supporter, you would be screaming for blood.  That's what Hillary supporters do.  The motto of the Hillary supporter is: Kill the beast Obama.

So, you are confused in that you think you are a Hillary supporter, and yet you are not trying to kill the beast.

So, we non-Hillary supporters ask: How could a reasonable, not-kill-the-beast person be a Hillary supporter?

A large segment of the Democratic Party is supporting Obama now.  If we don't get them back for the election, Clinton CANNOT win.

Hillary doesn't need supporters who are rude and combative with Obama supporters.  Supporters like you could cost her the election.

Re: OBAMA: You Can Be A Democrat For One Day
Is anyone else as concerned as I am about how divisive this has all become?
I had heard Obama was all about bringing everyone together, but certainly not in this way???
I am also increasingly alarmed by certain types of people Obama is attracting with his campaign. A certain level of fanaticism, militantism.
I think the above cited tactic, even if not campaign sanctioned, is representative of a far greater problem. People in this country are angry and frustrated and are using their fervor for their candidate to pour those emotions into.
By remaining vague, Obama becomes an empty vessel where discontented Americans can pour their individual hopes and dreams, in addition to their angst. Potentially very dangerous territory. As many of these followers ultimately find out that Obama was not who they had erroneously thought he was, by way of their own projections.
You can not sustain being "all things to all people" it is a strategy that is doomed to fail.
