Good Bye, Dennis Hastert- You Won't Be Missed

I don't know if any of you remember a guy back in 2004 named "Tom Daschle." He was a good guy.  Our majority leader in the Senate.

Then came November.   The party's leader in the Senate was gone, replaced with Harry Reid.  Ugh.   It was bad enough that Bush won reelection, but the Republicans also routed one of our best and brightest from gaining reelection.  It was a second defeat in the same night.

Then came 2006.  We remember that year.  Pretty good year.  We made some progress.  Not enough, but we started to make some.  We put ourselves on the right path.  The war path!   And now comes 2008.  Nominations still underway!  And real fights, too, Ones we can all agree on.  Fights in Illinois, between the Republicans and the Democrats.   On their turf, no less.  Yet times are changing, people are thirsty for something different.  They want the GOP to know that they are failures.

In a district that was all but designed for Republican rule, that was held by the Republican Speaker of the House for 21 years, we fought a battle.  You see, this Republican saw that things were going south so he decided to retire.  So we donated to our guy Foster, we volunteered for the party, we phone banked and we knocked on doors to change that district.  It's a district that we had no business fighting so hard for.

We took no voter for granted and we took no prisoners.  As a result, our efforts have paid off.  We have turned a red district into a blue district.  The seat of Dennis Hastert is now in the hands of the Democratic Party.  Sssooo, let me say this.  Thank you, Representative Bill Foster!"

That's one down, and many more to go!

Re: Good Bye, Dennis Hastert- You Won't Be Missed

And a hat tip to John Laesch in 2006, who showed that there was increasing vulnerability in this district.

It's looking good for Foster as we come down the home stretch. Adding another House Democrat would be good enough; doing it in this district is the equivalent of a poke in the eye to republicans. That would make it a pretty good night indeed.

Re: Good Bye, Dennis Hastert- You Won't Be Missed

Forcing the RCCC to sink a third of its budget into losing Hastert's seat is way more than a poke in the eye.

Alas, I think the most accurate description cannot be used on a family-friendly blog such as this. But they may be walking funny tomorrow.

This is why a 50 state strategy matters...
Thank you Howard Dean.

May all the party leaders learn from this.

Re: This is why a 50 state strategy matters...

So true. AS the current delegate count shows, a 50 state strategy will win every time over an insult 40 state strategy.

Re: Good Bye, Dennis Hastert- You Won't Be Missed

A tip of the hat to all who worked for Foster.
That includes Senator Obama who demonstrated what a good leader of a party does as he now has had a big hand in both Donna Edwards and Bill Fosters wins.

Hang on, billy...we want to dance on the Fat Bastards bloated bellicosity...so long DENNIS!

So, I guess this is "EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY" for Dennis Hastert...

As we say in the military
Lets not start stroking each other's cock's too soon (yeah, I know that sounds crude, but it is better and more meaningful than "don't wet your pants").
Foster and Edwards still got tough reelection battles to look forward to later this year, and Foster just barely won. Appearing too grandiose can really rally the opposition against you.
That said, I am going to see this as a sign that Obama can really help out Democrats on the down ballot.
Can Hillary?
In November there is a lot more at stake than just the Presidency.
PS. Does this mean that Obama got another Super Delegate?

Re: Kudos

Way to go Obama as well don't forget. He really was a key factor in this. His coat tails for local dems is astonishing.

This

I disagree on.

I will not go into length why, I already did that on another diary.

No knock on Obama but I give more credit to the candidate, the voters, both O and C supporters and all of us Democrats.
