Why YOU need to care about PA-08 (Part 3 of 10)

We Interrupt You're Normally Scheduled Blog Post . . .

This is the third segment of a ten part series about why you, and the netroots community as a whole, should be focused on the Eighth Congressional District of Pennsylvania.  There has been a lot of discussion around the net about what makes a good "netroots" candidate - this is my case for Patrick Murphy in PA-08. If you haven't already, please check out the first two   installments:

A Democratic District in Republican Hands

The Real, Right Wing Mike Fitzpatrtick

More on the flip...

Part 3: Republican Dirty Tricks in PA-08 Democratic Primary

As regular readers of this series know, this entry in the ten part series was supposed to document Mike Fitzpatrick's numerous flip-flops in his first year in office.  Unfortunately, the focus of the series needs to shift - just for a bit - to focus on the other Republican in the race Andy Warren.

Right now you may be scratching your head and saying - HUH?  Well yes, another reason why YOU need to care about PA-08 is that the true progressive candidate - Patrick Murphy - has to take on TWO Republicans in order to win in November.

Murphy's primary opponent is Andy Warren: a lifelong Republican who suddenly had a change of heart and became a Democrat when the local Republican bosses passed him over for a Congressional Seat and a Commissioners job. This is isn't speculation or insinuation. This is a fact.   Warren, in fact, even admitted that if he ran for office on the local level he would still be a Republican.

And I guess it appears as if a lifetime of  Republican dirty tricks dies hard.   Over the past few weeks, the Warren campaign has been shamelessly and desperately attacking Patrick Murphy, most notably for not spending enough time in the district.   In case you were wondering where Patrick was Mr. Warren - he was serving our Country in IRAQ!

Warren - a life-long member of the Republican machine, who switched parties merely to have the chance to run for public office - also had the GALL to call Murphy opportunistic.  Warren was resoundingly slapped down for these comments, by:   AboveAverageJane, the Liberal Doomsayer, The Bucks County Courier Times, and most importantly the voters of Bucks County.

Here is the last straw.  It appears that Andy Warren has enlisted the help of a former Republican and a convicted felon to try and get Patrick kicked off the ballot:

Murphy's petition challenger is Jane Faust, a Democratic voter from Bensalem, Otter said. Otter confirmed that Faust is the same former Republican committeewoman convicted in 1996 of forging signatures and consequently barred from holding elected office.

I don't know if Andy Warren - a guy who got blasted for giving his girlfriend-staffer a 27% raise while a county commissioner, and a guy who got busted for trying to have the taxpayers buy him a car and a vacation to Isreal, and a guy . . . (you can see where this is going) - really wants to get in a character debate with anybody.

Outraged? Check out Patrick Murphy's website and see how you can help.

Why YOU need to care about PA-08 (Part 3 of 10)

If we are planning to invest so much in CT to ensure that we get rid of a "bush-light" I think it is entirely appropriate to push for a real progressive challenger.

I don't know how anyone can challenge that, especially give Warren's dirty tricks.

I guess as sem1480 said it best - republican dirty ticks die hard.

Right.

And if Warren were to win the primary, I suppose he'd immediately drop all campaign activity and endorse Fitzpatrick.  While remaining on the ballot as "challenger", of course. A year later, there's Andy Warren--aide to a grateful re-elected Rep. Fitzpatrick.

Fortunately, last time I checked, Bucks County didn't have many people who just fell off the turnip truck.  They'll see through this--if they're told about it.

People already see through Andy's lie...

He has alienated a lot of people, republicans and democrats alike, in his 30 years of pbilc service.  Whether it was:

(1) foisting an environmentally reckless water pump on the residents of Point Pleasant that threatened water levels in the Delaware and spurred massive residential overdevelopment; or

(2) Consistently trashing the intelligence of Bucks and Montgomery County residents when he was at Regional Manager of PennDOT;

Andy has a long history of screwing over his constitutents, yet he thinks he is teflon and no one can touch him in November.  For someone who professes to know all about dirty Republican politics (and he should know because the majority of his support still comes from republicans), he is too blinded by his own ego to realize that with his long history of poor choices of words and political gaffs, he will get obliterated by Mike Fiztpatrick.

AboveAverageJane did the most comprehensive post to date regarding the pitfalls of Andy Warren.  It is long but  suggest anyone who wants to know the real Andy Warren should read it.

Re: Why YOU need to care

It's time for progressive's to rally around Murphy. Warren's dirty tricks are unacceptable. It is clear that he never left the Republican party.

Warren and Ginny Schrader

I'm confused. I clicked on aboveaveragejane's link about Warren, and noticed that Ginny Schrader is now a co-chair of his campaign. So how is someone who was a darling of the lefty blogosphere a few short months ago now a co-chair for a no-good repub-in-disguise? How does that work?

Re: Warren and Ginny Schrader

That's a good question.  Like Andy, Ginny change from GOP to Dem.  Although her changed seemed to be more of a personal shift than an opportunistic one.

Honestly I have no idea why she is working with Andy or why  a number of once prominent dems in Bucks county are getting behind Andy when he was their arch enemy for so many years.

The only explanation I can think of is that Patrick Murphy represents something new, they don't think he had paid his dues, and they are deathly scared of losing whatever little power they feel they have over the party (even though Bucks dems, until recently, haven't been too good at winning.  They know if Patrick wins, he will instantly be the de facto democratic leader in Bucks County.

Re: Warren and Ginny Schrader

The reason that you have no explanation for Ginny's endorsement of Andy Warren, "sem1480" (and I would really like to know who you are and what connection you have to the Murphy campaign), is that your entire slanderous, despicable tirade against Andy is without foundation.

LOL!!!

This message brought to you by a paid staffer from Andy Warren's campaign.

Hey Bobin- did you ever answer Adam B?

I'll repost it here, in case you missed it:
"why, exactly, did your candidate encourage a former Republican committeewoman convicted in 1996 of forging signatures (and consequently barred from holding elected office) to file a worthless petition challenge on his behalf?"

If you want to smear a great young candidate like Patrick Murphy, whom many of us have met, talked with on more than one occasion, and avidly support, you're going to have to do a lot better than ad hominem attacks against passionate local activists like sem1480. I know he's paying your bills, but you really, really need to get a grip.

Andy Warren- Republican dirty trickster for PA-08.

Re: Andy Warren's Challenge

Josh Nanberg added a comment to this post that explained a lot behind Warren's feeble challenge to the signatures on Patrick Murphy's petition.
