I keep forgetting that amongst whites and white liberals, that women and non-white men and women have to "behave" and that their associations are under way way more scrutiny than say, a guy like McCain, with his ties to radical anti Catholic clerics, and who has courted the extreme right white evangelicals who've had a field day under Bush II.

Sorry about that. You white liberals just keep tut tutting and reinforcing a meme for your pals at McCain HQ. Hey, I hear Democrats for McCain pays well, and let's face it, if "our" candidate can't win, let's just f*ck it up for everyone else and get another Republican liar, because, after all, we can keep Congress!

    Funny. NOT!

He foolishly disarmed, unilaterally, at a time when he was so weak he had no choice but get government cheese for his campaign. Now he's realizing that it was a dumb idea, because he's facing the prospect of a Democratic candidate raising money from The People who would wallop him in the general election.

Not a smart strategist, our Mr McCain, or whoever told him to do this.

  • comment on a post The problem of Obama's public financing 'pledge' over 4 years ago

The whole thing is a poorly funded, poorly run "system" that will just corner Obama into keeping supporters from helping him.

Obama should just say "hey this is a dumb idea" call BS on it, and let the millions of small donations speak louder than some fucking taxpayer dollars.

so funny to see Change to Win put up as the "militant" union while Andy Stern hasn't met a corporate health care entity he didn't wanna cut a deal with...I guess that whole militancy thing goes out the window when SEIU gets a few trinkets...too bad as SEIU could be the catalyst for real political change like Fusion Voting which would really make labor kick some asses...oh well it was a nice thought while it was there...

I remember meeting Chris Dodd like, a million years ago (1996, to be precise) when I was working on a campaign for a statewide office holder and found him to be one of the most polite and friendly people, and pretty forthright in this meeting thing we were doing with local leaders...dunno if he'll win or not but I give him credit for passing laws and whatnot while in the senate instead of just TALKING TALKING about "leadership" or talking about how they're experienced just because they were married to power (but were not in power).

he lied about the corvair, lied in 2000 and lies about his stupid organizations that are anti union, anti transparency and just steal money out of people's pockets to enrich himself.

he's a hack and a liar and wasting electricity talking about him is a waste of greenhouse emmissions.

if she'd stop lying and just admit she's pro iraq war to make sure no one thinks she's a wimp, that we'll be occupying Iraq throughout her term as president, and that she thinks the liberals and their ilk in the party should just shut up and be glad she's not rudy, then maybe people would at least know where she stands.

instead she just lies about the war and gets away with it. a choice between her and Rudy 911 is no choice at all. Ugh.

    seriously, who cares?

this guy is going nowhere fast, has nothing to lose by "talking big" and would be a disaster worse than Bush if he somehow lucked into the job.

then again, we have the looming disaster of Hillary "Let's Be In Iraq for 8+ more years to prove I've got the chops to shoot guns at brown people" Clinton and the rest......hmm...

still, who cares? he and denny kucinch can take turns on the bong, talking big talk....it'll make the feel good wing of the Democratic Party have fun!

  • on a comment on Hillary's race to lose over 4 years ago

Hillary does not need, nor will she ever need, my donation. I don't care who she ends up running against, the fact is she has plenty of wealthy people who can take care of her. She will not need, nor will she ever appreciate, a dime I donate. Plus under her we'll be in Iraq for 8 more years, just so she can prove to the world that girls can shoot guns too.

Obama is a nice enough guy, but I have to wonder if he peaked the day he announced. I'd donate if there was a chance he could Stop Hillary (who will destroy the party and the country beyond the dreams of a Karl Rove) but I still get the impression people support him Because They Think They're Supposed To. Please, Obama folks, prove me wrong.

As for Edwards, well his lovely Johnny One Note "Consultant", Mudcat Whatshisname, made it clear that I, as a person who lives in a city, is not worthy of being in the Democratic party. So f*ck Edwards and his bullshit. He was a joke candidate the first time anyway, why does anyone take seriously what haircut 400 has to say? He can stick it up his hedge fund and his Mudcat.

As for the rest, well, they're a nice enough bunch, but Mike Gravel? Dennis The Menace? WTF?

Whatever. Bush has lowered the bar so low, even a fool like Hillary, who has no principles and no integrity, can actually be president. Maybe its time to move to Australia.

maybe it's time to return to the days of appointed senators by state legislatures instead.

can anyone really argue that the current broken campaign system is producing the Daniel Websters of our era, and not just congressmen with bigger bank accounts?

seriously. I don't see the advantage. No elections directly means no more campaign donations , no more campaign consultants, no more bs.

sure there is that whole indirectness of it all, but given how low this country has sunk, maybe a firewall against the mob is what we need, as the founding fathers intended.

  • comment on a post The Near-Impossibility Of A Brokered Convention over 5 years ago

I get so sick of hearing about liberal porn fantasies about a "brokered convention" like on that West Wing show a while back.

Seriously. Ever since 1972, there have been countless souls spending years developing ways to prevent the debacle of 72 from Ever Happening Again. Talk about this with an old timer and you're likely to give them a stroke. Seriously.

From "super delegates" to the bizarre formulas of caucuses, primaries and the like, the elimination of "favorite son" candidates to control delegates and God Knows What Else, it will never happen again.

Frankly, I don't see why it is states should be paying for or sponsoring partisan primaries in the first place, esp. when the convention is now nothing but a tv show and coronation ceremony. It's a vestige of times past and it's time to up-end it with something more engaging than fundraising and a rushed primary schedule.

  • comment on a post Obama: $25 Million over 5 years ago

When the camapigns do their FEC reports, how can you tell which donations came via the Internet and which did not?

I haven't done an FEC filing for a while and I was not sure how these figures came about. I'm not disputing it for any of the campaigns, I'm just curious.

It seems odd that Sen. Clinton's campaign seems reluctant to indicate how much of her big bag o' cash is designated for the general election ONLY. I wonder why?

I still am not sure who to vote for, but at this point I'll take anyone who can bring in a lot of people on board to give donations and volunteer. I can't take the thought of a President Romney or a President "backstabber" McCain in 2008.

  • I'm not thrilled about Obama in the sense that I kinda get the impression he's more on Lieberman's page than a progressive or centrist page, but I really can't take the idea of a candidate Hillary (who would lose).

Plus, I'm just so sick of the elites taking out people because the idea of "the teeming masses" having any say is a "threat".

Have we forgotten how 4 independent presidential campaigns met and collborated to take out Dean? I was not pro-Dean in the primaries (I was for Clark) but I really felt Dean got a bum's rush from the media (which they admit) and the mainstream losers aka Democrats.

Hell I'll support Obama if he can fuck up Hillary's crew. Although I really like Bill Richardson though...he's a smart guy. But no Hillary, her health care plan in 1993 was a disaster, and she doesn't care about regular people. She's a self-imporatant elitst and would bring back the slimy parts of Clinton I without the charisma, charm, or brains. Ugh.
