Maybe that will give Hillary MOMENTUM!

I wonder if Hillary will fly in and give a victory speech!!!

Now New Mexico will be considered a significant state!

by puma 2008-02-14 12:20PM | 0 recs
Re: Maybe that will give Hillary MOMENTUM!

More significant than Kansas, I'll argue.

by Sieglinde 2008-02-14 12:21PM | 0 recs
Yep and it will be added

to that significant state list as oppose to Missouri, Colorado, and Maryland.

by puma 2008-02-14 12:23PM | 0 recs
Re: Yep and it will be added

New Mexico, along with Arizona and Nevada ... Hillary has a foothold in the Southwest-- the next strategic goal of the Democratic Party.

"New Mexico, along with Arizona and Nevada ... Hillary has a foothold in the Southwest-- the next strategic goal of the Democratic Party"

Yeah, you're right, I hadn't really thought of that.

I wonder how Hillary stacks up against McCain in AZ?

by Marsha1 2008-02-14 02:55PM | 0 recs
I don't know, but . . .

McCain failed to get 50% of the GOP vote in the AZ primary.

Re: Yep and it will be added
I can personally attest to the fact that she will beat him in Arizona. He has pissed off so many people here, not showing up to vote, hugging Bush, sucking up to the religious right,...
We have a great Hillary organization that is so eager to get into GE mode, I can almost dredge up a few glimmers of sorry feelings for him. ..oh wait, no I can't

Re: MO is signigicant

How likely is it that ANY Democrat in this election year that so heavily favors our party will lose any big state that voted for Kerry?  States like CA, NY, MA that Clinton won are almost the closest thing to a lock that you can get in politics.  What matters is who will win the swing states, and Obama has shown that he has more appeal there then Hillary.

Re: Maybe that will give Hillary MOMENTUM!

You want significant?

In New Mexico, 150000 Democratic voters showed up out of the 37000 who voted for Kerry in 2004 about 40%

In Kansas, 37000 Democratic voters showed up out of 435000 who voted for Kerry in 2004, less than 10%.

truth and competence

wins over truthiness and spin?  About time, I was wondering when this would start to turn.

Awesome! The boost we need!

by HillaryKnight08 2008-02-14 12:20PM | 0 recs
Yep that 1 delegate will really help

Hillary now 1 delegate closer to having the pledged delegate lead.

Re: Yep that 1 delegate will really help

Your sarcasm doesn't really help at all.

by HillaryKnight08 2008-02-14 12:22PM | 0 recs
Well it's the truth!

Every delegate counts in this race.

by puma 2008-02-14 12:24PM | 0 recs
Re: Well it's the truth!

I believe that 14C to 12O makes her TWO delegates closer to regaining the lead.

by HillaryKnight08 2008-02-14 12:35PM | 0 recs
And considering Obama only had...

A 25 delegate lead as of this morning, this IS significant. Oh yes, and this shows that Hillary's base of true blue, working class Democrats CAN win this election for her. Keep an eye on Texas now, as it's just next door from NM. ;-)

Re: And considering Obama only had...

Yeah... comparing New Mexico to Texas because they're next to eachother doesn't make much sense.

Maybe Southern New Mexico -- which is called Little Texas, not exactly fondly, by many Democrats -- but not the rest of the state.

Clinton did win the highly conservative Southern New Mexico (Democrats in Southern New Mexico are very, very conservative).

Re: And considering Obama only had...

That's interesting. Why do you think she did so well in that area?

And she won neighboring Arizona. 7 out of 8 CD's

Talk about a close race
No wonder they took their time totaling the votes.

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins New Mexico

I'm pleased we have finally settled the issue of whether New Mexico is an important state in the primary process (it is!).

by Steve M 2008-02-14 12:24PM | 0 recs
Well, of course NM is!

And all sarcasm aside, this is a good sign for Hillary going into Texas. Like New Mexico, Texas is a state with a large Latino population. And if Hillary can win this state where Obama had a BIG organization, she should do well in Texas... A state that Hill's campaign is working hard to win.

Nothing on MSNBC...

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins New Mexico

CNN carried the news conference live and then had their panel discussing it.

MSNBC is the Obama network, I don't expect it from them.

by americanincanada 2008-02-14 12:41PM | 0 recs
It's funny

Seriously, we all know how ruthless the Clintons are, I wonder if these results were somehow held back by the Bill Richardson political machine in the event Hillary needed a mid-week "boost" to blunt any perceived momentum on Obama's part in the MSM.

Just sayin'.

But then again, for such a small state, New Mexico's election results are typically and notoriously late.

by Zeitgeist9000 2008-02-14 12:44PM | 0 recs
Re: It's funny

It's a caucus (a primary-like caucus, but a caucus), and run by the Democratic party in the state, not the state government.  Volunteers did the recount by hand, and they had 17,000 provisional ballots to track down and certify.  No wonder it took so much time!

Go, Democratic party volunteers giving up their time for the good of the party!  Go, Democratic party of NM for getting 54% higher turnout than the first caucus in '04, and 30% higher turnout than the last primary, in '00.

by mgee 2008-02-14 12:56PM | 0 recs
Re: It's funny

We've been counting non stop for weeks, attempting to qualify over 17,000 provisional ballots.

To say something like this is an insult to all the hard work volunteers did in counting the votes as quickly -- and accurately -- as possible.

by fbihop 2008-02-14 03:47PM | 0 recs
According to Mark Penn

NM doesn't count.

It's good win given strong Obama's present there.  But we need more, so keep soldier on.
