• Plainly more conservative than Reagan? I guess I will just politely disagree with that statement and leave it at that.

  • comment on a post Sen. Grassley Wants A "Fair Vote" For Judges over 3 years ago

I always knew all that talk of filibustering judicial nominees and the "nuclear option" to prevent it would come back to bite us on the backside someday, and that day is well, now. As bad as the Reps will look if they decide to filibuster, at least they didn't actually invoke the "nuclear option" because if they did, they would look really stupid now. Nope, forget the filibuster - a good, healthy debate is what is needed, just like always when such an important nomination has been made.

  • I would be inclined to agree with you except for the fact that her next words were:

"And I know this is on tape and I should never say that because we don't make law. I know. Okay, I know. I'm not promoting it. I'm not advocating it. I know."

It would appear to me that she is equating "policy" more with #1 than with #3. And her laughter (as well as that from others in the room) made it seem like it was one of those "yeah, we don't make laws - wink, wink, nod, nod" moments. If she really meant #3, she should have said so in her explanation. Or said nothing more at all; it would have been easier to explain that way (at this point, I mean). But saying what she did made it sound like she realized she said something really stupid and was just trying to cover for it.

I don't pretend to know which definition of policy she really was talking about, but I think it's the appearance of judicial activism (rightly or wrongly) in her words that some people are latching onto.

  • comment on a post FL-Sen-GOP: Jeb Bush Sons Oppose Charlie Crist over 3 years ago

Can't say I disagree with Jeb's boys concerning Crist, but it does make me wonder what they thought about so many of Uncle George's domestic policies when he was Pres. It's not like W. was all that conservative himself domestically speaking.

    "A cranky disagreable bunch!"

Well, I don't figure on changing a whole lot of minds here, so not much point in being that way.

    "Welcome aboard anyhow."

Thanks! Actually, I have been a member here for a long time. I just haven't posted in quite awhile. There was a stretch there where politics depressed me (imagine that given the recent climate, huh?). It's only been a couple of months that I have been reading myDD (or any political blogs for that matter) again, and this was my first post in a long time.

Yup, I am sure I am a Republican - and quite a conservative one at that; not waaaay right, but pretty far right. And yes, I would like to think I have a sense of humor - some of "us" do! :-)

Sometimes, ya just gotta call 'em like you see 'em and that ad is just plain odd.

  • on a comment on B-List Demons over 3 years ago

Well, being a Republican, I think it's supposed to appeal to me, but just like everyone else, every time I see that ad, all I can think is "who the heck are all those dudes?" The only one I recognize outside of Obama is Harry Reid (that is Harry at the end, isn't it?). Maybe they were just trying to come up with what they think are scary looking white guys, I don't know. It's a slick production (especially at the beginning) but as an ad, I don't know how effective it will be.

  • Exactly! The Strib's polls are horrible. Don't put any stock in them. I haven't seen the Rasmussen numbers, but if they have it much closer, I would tend to say that is more accurate. Don't get me wrong; I don't think - at this point - that Kennedy is going to win (it was always going to be an uphill battle for him), but I don't think the Strib's numbers are even close to correct.

All I know for sure is that no matter who wins, MN will be better off than we are now with that stiff Dayton! If Klobuchar does win, at least I think she will actually do something in D.C.

How many rightwingers know anything about Chris Bowers

I do! But, then again, I read MyDD on a regular basis.

By the way Chris - congrats on becoming a fat cat!

  • on a comment on PA-08: I'm A Fat Cat over 5 years ago

Hard to argue with that; I guess that's one big reason why I read MyDD several times a week, but only visit the big Conservative blogs (Malkin, NRO, Power Line, etc.) once or twice a month on average; at least I can participate here.

  • comment on a post Mexican Election Chaos over 5 years ago

Apparently, this won't drag out forever - according to what I have read, Mexican law dictates that someone must be declared the winner - regardless of any appeals - by Sept 6th. But, the next 2 months are going to be ugly.

  • on a comment on World Cup Open Thread over 5 years ago

Soccer can be exciting - if you move it indoors! I watched an indoor soccer league game many years back and actually enjoyed it quite a bit. The fact that there was some scoring certainly helped.

  • on a comment on World Cup Open Thread over 5 years ago

To me, pro basketball, pro hockey, and baseball of any sort are a bit dull on TV; I may watch a bit here and there, but rarely an entire game. However, in person, it's an entirely different experience. For whatever reason, being at the game makes it entirely worthwhile. 'Course I can't afford an NBA or NHA ticket, and baseball is still inside the stupid teflon dome here in MN, so I don't go to many games.

  • on a comment on World Cup Open Thread over 5 years ago

Ah yes, the good old liberal argument of "I am smarter than you."

I really don't care how "complex" the game is - it doesn't make it any less dull to watch. And, I agree with you about the NBA. College hoops are fun to watch - the pros, not so much.

    10 guys all black...

Wow, for someone who claims superior intellect, that is an incredibly ignorant comment, isn't it? I can just imagine all the screams of "racist" that would have come my way if I would have said something like that. But, I guess as a liberal, you get a pass on that one, right? I also do follow the NBA enough to know that two of the most dominant players this year (Nash & Nowitzki) happen to be white dudes; so, not only was your comment racist, it was just plain incorrect. But, someone as intelligent as you should have known better, don't you think?
