Amnesty Request Diary (Update: Success!)

Update [2008-6-10 12:37:50 by really not a troll]: Success! Last night many of us were visited by the Admin fairy and had our rec/rates restored. Thank you MyDD! Let's celebrate by reccing some useful, non-meta diaries.

So, the primaries are over and some people still can't rec/rate. Instead of spamming all the admins, why don't we use this diary to request amnesty? This'll make it easier on the admins, who won't have to sort through their inboxes and won't have to hunt down our comment history (they can just click our usernames in-thread).

So, want rec/rate back? Post a comment.

Oh, and if you still have rec/rate, and want to get it restored to all non-troll users, please rec this. Thanks.

Update [2008-6-9 23:14:10 by really not a troll]:: Ironically, my first time on the rec list. Thanks! I'd thank you by name, but I don't have the ability to view who put my diary on the rec list right now. Admins, can we fix that so I can offer these fine users some proper gratitude?
THANKS to those with rec/rate who have kept this diary on the rec list:

Tips?

I sense tips are unlikely, given the target audience, but if you feel so inclined and able, here's the jar.

Re: Tips?

You got a tip from me.
And a rec.

I think we all need to be able to tip and rec and promote good diaries that will focus our energies on the GE ahead.

Just my unimportant 2 cents :)

Re: Tips?

Here's a tip. For those who had their rec/rate unfairly taken way, get Firefox and the add-on Adblock Plus. Then, when you surf MyDD, Jerome won't get any ad revenue. Keep Adblock Plus engaged until you get rec/rate back.

Re: Tips?

I lost mine within the first week here, but I can only guess it's because I expressed my support for Obama shortly after arriving.

by Tommy Flanagan 2008-06-09 02:28PM | 0 recs
Re: Tips?

Not all Obama supporters lost rec/rate - and sometimes the ways in which one ended up tazed were pretty ambigious. The admins have always claimed that they were following a consistent set of criteria, but I'm more and more convinced that it ended up being a pretty haphazard affair.

Re: Tips?

If you recommended a diary (perhaps a Bob Johnson diary) that Jerome wanted to boot off the recommended diary list, his method was to eliminate the rec/rate of everybody who recommended it, so their recommend would disappear and the diary would fall off the list.

Re: Tips?

I guess that's one way of sending a message. Now it seems overdue for sending another type of message. Is it the case that abilities can't be restored until a missing administrator is back in the country?

Re: Tips?

I'm still a TU despite having a pretty robust attitude of doling out TRs and to Alegra, TD, linfar and Teresa - so I guess I was just lucky to have missed the key diaries that got people banned.  Actually, probably being in London the time difference was a big factor.  Anyway, I fully support an amnesty and hope it is done quickly before too many people give up on the site.

This goes far beyond rec/rate

There were also people whose posting privileges were revoked entirely merely for making a strong case against Clinton and/or for Obama -- and calling the site's host out on some of his less-reasoned judgements and decisions.

This includes the person who originally introduced me to MyDD. This person is a progressive Democrat originally from the midwest, now a local Democratic committeeman in New York State, and a very early adopter of this site... one of the most mild-mannered people I know, but also someone of great integrity, who would not agree to the pledge he was sent as a condition of continued posting abilities.

Such injustices should be undone now by the site's owners. They never should have happened in the first place.

Re: Kos had Amnesty

Interesting.  I came here specifically because it was the place where the most fervent Hillary Clinton supporters seemed to post.  I still read and post more frequently at the DailyKos, and I read and post here.

I specifically came here because of the intensity of the Hillary supporting crowd.

I find it interesting when people say they won't post over there.  I've read what I find to be some pretty hilariously biased and pro-Clinton comments from Jerome over here.

I guess I don't really understand the mentality of leaving the place because they don't agree with you.

by zerosumgame 2008-06-09 06:05PM | 0 recs
Re: Kos had Amnesty

Yeah, whatever.

It was a cesspit in favor of John Edwards.

Dailykos was like the DailyEdwards until, and after he dropped out.

I came to this site, because there were some really funny, and really intense Clinton partisans.

We all have our own filters and lenses, and perhaps your lenses and filters allow you to see all the negative comments about Clinton as some sort of evil Kospiracy.  It would be possible to go there and pluck out hundreds of nasty comments about Clinton.  Just as it would be possible to come here and pull out hundreds of nasty comments about Obama (they would of course be relative to the number of comments on each site.)  If you're a Clinton partisan, it's simply easier to filter your way through negative Obama comments, just as an Obama partisan would find it easier to filter out negative Clinton comments.

Re: Kos had Amnesty

the difference is/was that the nasty ones about her were rec'ed and celebrated and any arguments against them were TR'ed and hidden and the users banned on a regular basis. Empathy

I'm certainly aware and have an understanding of the feelings of people who've lost.  I've never been any huge backer of Obama, but he was my preference.  I sort of sat out the opinion contests on it.

I do realize that this election will end, and that if I spend all of my time getting mad about it, I will end earlier than I should.

Man, we had a goal last week starting on Wednesday to post a diary a day on this.

It's obvious that Jerome wants this site to concede along with HRC's campaign.

Such a shame that it started and ran with noble intentions only to be hijacked and ruined by other blogs.

An amnesty would be an admission of guilt,

in that rating removal was a targeted attempt to silence Obama supporters. I'll be very surprised if everyone who got ratings taken away gets them back.

by Firewall 2008-06-09 01:54PM | 0 recs
Re: An amnesty would be an admission of guilt,

while I do think the privileged revocations were pretty badly biased, I doubt that it was a "targeted attempt". It seems more akin to an acknowledgement that, without some kind of check, Obama supporters would vastly outnumber the Clinton supporters (likely taking over most of the rec list), and there'd be a risk of a second Alegre strike.

by really not a troll 2008-06-09 01:58PM | 0 recs
Not necessarily.

When you manage a forum like this, sometimes you just get tired of sorting through the crap.  They snap and smite away with the big heavy fist anybody in their line of sight.

My experience is that the best way to get amnesty is to privately send craven, boot-licking emails.  Undignified?  Sure, but, hey it works.

by Dumbo 2008-06-09 02:02PM | 0 recs
Re: Not necessarily.

And here in proves **'s stupidity and short sightedness.

So what if Alegre did a second strike, SHE JUST did and could care less about the site she left behind.

So the solution to the wave in the internet based Democrats was to punish the majority and think they would take it or leave?

My prediciton is that *** will never grant amnesty because as Firewall said, its an outright admission and if you read the statements before he refused to admit to it, except he banned all those people for TRing Alegre.
And then by doing that you had "Is this Snark" posted for weeks.........

God you would almost think that Mark Penn is an advisor to this blog.

This

"attempt to silence Obama supporters"

is BS.

But... if you think you are still correct in saying this, can you admit that kos did the same but towards Clinton supporters?

by kevin22262 2008-06-09 02:50PM | 0 recs
Re: This

Even so he granted amnesty MONTHS ago, and he at least admitted to it.

Jerome said he would provide amnesty when the Primary was over.
Obama clinched last tuesday, HRC announced she would concede on Wednesday, and she officially concede/suspended and endorsed on Saturday.

Jerome might make some excuse about traveling but he knew the last day of the primaries, he knew the RBC committee rulings.

I have gotten used to the idea that Amnesty will never happen on this site.

Is anyone else starting to accept that after 2+months this is the way it is?

Should we just give in and all make new accounts?

by really not a troll 2008-06-09 03:25PM | 0 recs
I think not

Most of those who lost their privileges here lost them simultaneously, which seems to poke holes in your theory. If privileges can be removed in mass simultaneously, they can be restored in mass simultaneously.

by awobbly 2008-06-09 05:41PM | 0 recs
Yes..

same thing happened at dkos.

Many users and abusers here were given warnings. Including.... Myself!

by kevin22262 2008-06-09 05:52PM | 0 recs
Also

you do not know who really removed these and you really have no idea what it takes to put them back, especially if they are BUSY.

Kos makes shit loads of money and he hires STAFF to help maintain and work his blog. This may happen here also but on a much smaller scale.

I tell you one thing, If I was an admin here and people were being abusive and a pain about getting their privileges back, I would make them wait.

by kevin22262 2008-06-09 05:55PM | 0 recs
Re: Also

Who is being abusive? Hundreds of users of this site had their privileges revoked, without warning or explanation. Is asking for redress for a wrong, perceived or not, abusive in your opinion? Sounds a little... conservative to me.

Re: An amnesty would be an admission of guilt,

Oh, no, no, no...It had nothing to do with that. It was merely some fair and unbiased policing of the site, and it just so happens that only the Obama supporters got out of line.

It was not making Obama supporters on this site a lesser class of member simply because they dared to support the wrong candidate, grew tired of utterly skewed site policies, and called certain administrators on their complete unwillingness to deal with distortions and lies if they were posted by the right members.

Nah.

Re: Amnesty Request Diary

There were several purges during the past months..
some like texdarlin were restored...
Two purges that that stand out on the other side were obvious...
A Bob Johnson post....and those who rec'd it
and the most obvious was when Jerome admitted to restrictions to those who "piled on" when comments were made to alegre's sarcastic "Is this snark"...

I do not know if it possible for MyDD to restore "privileges". However they should try.
It is also appropriate to maybe...just maybe take another look at what constitutes a troll or a hide rating. A troll rating should apply to those who visit here with their only intent to disrupt with GOP talking points..

It also would be in the best if a warning was given first and be specific. If someone is restricted or banned, that person should be given a specific reason...
There should be careful consideration given to mass actions...

The hide should apply to serious profane attacks on someone who posts a diary or comments...

Now that we are in GE mode...can we move forward?

For having been caught up in Jerome's pissy protection of Alegre, I lost my rec/rate abilities. Would I like them back? Sure, especially given that Alegre has demonstrated that she's not really part of this community and was just using it to get attention.

Thanks for the praise

the sad thing is I know I fly off the handle too easily.  I try to remain objective, but it is too easy to let things be personal.  Here we are all (except for a very small minority of real trolls like itsoverorc) are working for the same goal, a more progressive country.  We let our little family disputes grow into huge rages.  Of course there are those egging us on in that, but we should be able to be calmer.

Re: Thanks for the praise

As an old septuagenarian, who cast his first vote for Adlai Stevenson, I sense your controlled passion. If you are really a "student" I salute your restraint. Don't think I could have stayed so even-headed at your age. I am troubled that many who post here are obviously first-timers in the political scene and don't fully understand the political process. I sense that as we have become a culture of "celebrity" there is more attention to personality than issues and that is indeed sad.

Maybe we should

Maybe we should cross post this at DailyKos and DemocraticUnderground.

This is important, because as I fear this site is in it's last days (as long as the current path continues)  I would like this stain to be lifted.

I think that if amnesty was awarded and Jerome came out, appologized and stated this site was returning to it's roots then there is a chance, but if not I am sure and I HOPE that another site comes by and fills the void.

I say hope because if this site does not fix itself, change and adapt for the future then I don't see why it deserves to run.

by CrushTheGOP2008 2008-06-09 02:23PM | 0 recs
Re: Maybe we should

This is a very insulting comment. Jerome doesn't have to apologize for anything. If you think this site is "in it's last days", then maybe you should just move along.

Re: Maybe we should

Im glad to see you are so concerned for Jerome's feelings.

The fact that this site is in it's last days are quite evident.

By Jerome not providing amnesty people will always be talking about these super covert bannings and restrictions that were largely done to achieve partisan goals.

He will lose this site over this, Obama is the nominee and this site thinks it will survive as the "site that banned people just for supporting obama"

What kind of site has members warning each other to stay away from Alegre diaries if they want to keep their privledges?

Re: Maybe we should
How is Jerome going to "lose" this site? MyDD has been around for years, and all Democratic blogs get huge upticks in their traffic during campaign season, then they go back to their normal numbers. I think Jerome's traffic will survive quite well with all the former posters from Dkos, anyway.
And for someone who is so tragically disappointed in the site, you sure do post here a lot.
by skohayes 2008-06-09 03:57PM | 0 recs
Re: Maybe we should

I am tragically dissapointed because it is sad to see such great commenters on this site saying:

"Wow its so dead, everyone else is leaving and so should I"

I feel I should leave because it does seem to be deep sixing.

By doing these "sweeps" Jerome turned this from  a Dem site to a Hillary site overnight.

How can we take the site seriously if we have to make new Screen names.

How can this site survive what looks like permanent banishment of 50 people who TR'd Alegre, a member that used this site then sold it out.

Do you think she/he feels one bit bad?

Does this site wants to be etched in history as the site that banned/restricted over 100 users over a Alegre and Bob Johnson?

And no, I really have no interest in a site that has the same "Why was I banned" diary every single day.

Its Lame.

Re: Maybe we should

As one of the "pile-ons" who was stripped of rec/rate due to TRing an insulting and content-free troll-post, I feel the need to mention that I wasn't banished from the site. It didn't give me much faith in the people administrating the site, but frankly they aren't why I post here anyway. I read HuffPost for the front-pagers and dKos for the news posted by their front-pagers such as down-ticket races. I come to myDD for the discussions in diaries like these.

As for rec/rate, eh, whatever. They ought to scrap it anyway. They don't feel that a significant portion of their users can be trusted to use the system, and it's apparent that a significant portion of the users don't feel they can be trusted to administrate it. I think we're both right.

Screw asking.

I'm not asking Jerome or the admins that have gone along with the with the haphazard enforcement of a farcical policy for a damned thing. Restore rec/rate to me or don't, I don't much care.

I post here because it was one of the few blogs where Clinton and Obama supporters both made up significant portions of the population, (no thanks to Jerome and his efforts to turn this into a Clintonista counterpart to Kos,) and because it's small enough that it's easy to make your voice heard when you choose to do so.

If Jerome wants to live up to his promise to return privileges, or to fail to do so, that's his call. I see little enough reason to laud him either way, given the offhand way he removed those privileges in the first place and the half-assed justification he provided after the fact.

I'll second Crush's statement.  While some sites have a certain, shall we say, prestige in being a TU, I have to say that the level of discourse here during the primaries and the inequitable tolerance, yea celebration, of one candidate's trolls and flamethrowers made being an insider here more of a shame than a privilege.

Rate/rec?  I don't give a shit, really.  I see it more as a measure of the site's integrity than of mine.

Where have you been for the past 2 yrs and even last month when anything to do with amnesty was shot down. The majority of the american people do not want amnesty until the borders are closed and secured.

Ask the million of people who have had their identity stolen and their credit history f%@#&d if they want amnesty as a priority? This is probably the most divisive legislation to be tackled along with shoring up social security - this is an idiotic idea

As a sock puppet...

I have to say, the purge wasn't very well implemented. I just happened to post in the "Is this snark" thread in response to something completely out of the loop of that particular chaos and lost rec/rate/comment/diary rec abilities. Real dumb way to handle a situation, and the most recent Alexa numbers bear it out. Jerome's looking at early primary numbers again (think Wile E. Coyote).

Anyhoo, I just spread a bunch of love to you folks since I'll probably be banned again. No biggie. I'm back to my regular stomping grounds now.

Oh, BTW, JA, I work at a major (like 50,000+) university, so if you're blocking IPs, your move was especially dumb since for my former ID, I registered and used on my wireless connection at the school's library. Yikes. That's gotta hurt.

Re: Jerome is out of the country.

I don't think they have the power to remove political recs.  I've talked to Todd and Jonathan in various incarnations and I always got the sense from them that I was (unintentionally) putting them in an uncomfortable position.  They didn't want to defend the banning system but they weren't going to leave Jerome hanging either.

At any rate, this is my third account.  When it became clear why I had lost rec/rate I stopped trying to play within the rules of the system.

Re: Amnesty Request Diary

You lost your ability to rate and rec because of your behavior, not because of your candidate of choice.  Furthermore, this is the admin's site; not yours, nor anyone else's.

It's amusing to me that so many of you have nothing better to do with your time.

This is all really silly.

Make a new name based on the old: Hsn to Hsn2

How about a work around?

1) Make a new screen name that is based on your old one so folks can recognize you.
If Hussein was your old one Hussein2 could be your new one.
2) As a convention you could provide a link to your old diary in the first diary of your "new" account.

3) Did you use "troll" as a rating for someone you disagreed with?  It's only for someone like a Republican pretending to be a Democrat on this site to cause a fight.

I am an Obama supporter with Rec and Rate that should have be banned!

I wrote an inflammatory anti Hillary diary and retained my privileges. I repented afterwards. I suggested Hillary was responsible for 9/11. I would have kicked me off. I am sorry, seriously.
My point was that the Republicans would push that slanderous and find some way to swift boat any Democrat.

Re: Amnesty Request Diary

Rec'd, since I never lost my ability.

Obviously some people have lost rec/rate for valid reasons.

Equally obviously (to me) many people have lost rec/rate for very questionable reasons (such as rec'ing a single diary, or TR-ing comments that weren't TR-worthy by site rules but were very similar to a whole lot of comments that people TR'd and did NOT lose rec/rate for TR-ing.

I'd vote to give amnesty back to anyone who's been banned for a single rec or a limited amount of TRing. If they abuse again, remove rec/rate again never to return. Most of them won't; most of the "abuses" are more a property of the contentious primary than any actual abuses.

They're back now. I set up an archive for MyDD for Jerome because the site was creaking under the weight of all the comments, and when I did it I thought I had fixed all the archive bugs that I had fixed for DK ages ago, but I managed to overlook one.

Mojo for all from one who only briefly lost TU status and quickly regained it.

I can REC and RATE again!!

Thank you all.  Thank you Jerome.

The splinter is out, now the wound can heal.

Mojo all around!!

I just Mojoed every single comment in this

diary.

If I accidentally gave anyone less than a 2 let me know - that was a lot of clicky-the-dropdown-menu and I could have misclicked someone.

If I gave you a 2 for a negative comment - don`t make too much of it.  I am just being nice... ;-)

good for you

now let's get everyone else's mojo back, and my lost diaries.

Who is still out?

The Lost Diaries are the greatest sin.  People worked hard to express themselves and deleting those words is akin to Book Burning.

ADMINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dig through your archives and find the books that have been lost.  If you need help, post a diary asking for volunteers.

by chrisblask 2008-06-10 05:32AM | 0 recs
what's screwy

is that i know the title of several of those lost diaries.  i do a search and they don't come up at all.

could be a technical glitch on the backend, but i just think it's weird timing considering it happened right after (as in seconds after) i posted my last diary.

i didn't realise others had their diaries disappear, too.  i thought it was just rate/rec ability.

the more i think about it, the more i think it must be a database glitch.  maybe they need to take the site down and reindex or something.

as to the mojo stuff, it can be restored with a few clicks.  why it hasn't been done yet, i dunno.

Converting to Ffox with adblock right now -- what a great idea, can't believe I didn't think of it

When the community is restored to harmony, I'll go back to viewing the ads

by fightbull 2008-06-10 05:01AM | 0 recs
make sure to install

the adblock filterset g rules.  that will automagically update your adblock filters regularly.  basically, you won't have to individually click and block most ads on the net - filterset g blocks them all for you.  of course, the occassional ad gets through, but most do not.  here's the link.  go here and install it after installing adblock:

Rec/Rate Reinstatement please

I lost my privileges right after I first joined. I'm still not entirely sure why, but I think my comment history speaks for itself. Could I have them back please?

I still have Rec / Rate but I'm with you!

Here are two recent comments I've made in various threads on this topic.  POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

***Comment 1***
And the "Is this Snark" comment that got 50 people put in the penalty box by Jerome still stands.  Which is totally ridiculous.  To have someone troll and get called out for it and then have the site actually penalize those who were offended is totally unacceptable.

Amnesty was promised but hasn't been granted yet, to my knowledge.

And no, this isn't sour grapes.  I can rec and rate.  I just find the actions of the Mods here, in this particular case, reprehensible.

She doesn't even participate here anymore and there are still reasonable contributors being punished because of her actions.  She doesn't deserve my respect nor does anyone who blindly protected and promoted her views over the voices of others.  She was/is a paid shill, IMO.

***Comment 2***
Todd, Jerome, Jonathon, Josh, etc...

Are you guys getting the picture yet?  So many of the responses in the open thread are requests for this.  I still have my ability to Rec/Rate so this isn't sour grapes on my part.  There isn't any question these privileges were revoked punitively and unfairly during the Hillary/Barack wars around here and something needs to be done about that.  Specifically, anyone who lost their abilities related to the "Is this snark" fiasco deserve an apology along with their rights restored.

If this BS continues, you'll lose a lot of valuable contributors.

Re: I still have Rec / Rate but I'm with you!

The site admins were right to respond to the pile-on to the "Is This Snark". Alegre may have done a lot of questionable things, but the pile-on against her on that comment was unacceptable.

Discourse requires order, and a site that allows people to gang attack comments because they disagree with the substance--rather than sincerely view them as disruptive--is not one that will encourage productive and diverse conversation.

Perhaps the admins responded too harshly, but they had to prevent their TU system from being used as a weapon by people without a sufficient appreciation for views they disagree with. If you don't understand that, then I think Mydd is better without your participation.

Re: I still have Rec / Rate but I'm with you!

I'm not going anywhere.

If you don't understand that the first reply to a pro-Obama diary, right at the top, a diary that was serious in every respect and got a lot of mojo, was being trolled by her, then that's your problem.  The fact that 50 people felt slighted by it and felt it was a troll backed this up.  It isn't like there was some sort of email that went out to Obama-Nation telling everyone to TR bomb the post.  It was a natural occurrence given the circumstances and should've been tolerated at minimum by a certain Mod.  Silencing those folks for as long as they were and may still be, was ignorant, IMO.

This is my opinion on the subject matter.  This is a thread specifically for that purpose.  If you don't like it, perhaps you should go find another thread.

by SpanishFly 2008-06-10 10:22AM | 0 recs
Re: I still have Rec / Rate but I'm with you!

Actually, the lack of understanding is YOUR problem, since YOU are the one who is arguing that the site mods were mistaken in interpreting both the valence of Allegre's post as well as the appropriateness of troll-rating it. I agree with them and thought their judgment was sound.

You not only disagree with them, but premise your argument with the idea that the majority should have nearly free reign to troll rate whatever the hell they want and that the mods shouldn't intervene. Besides my belief that this is a foolish position, it also occurs to me that it's very easy to take it, given that you don't have any responsibility for the site. "Power to the People" you say. Well, if the mods' work is offensive you your sense of majoritarianism, you can go ahead and grab a Scoop-type form of software, build your own site with your own mod rules and see how it goes. I, on the other hand, support JA's view of community--and I gotta admit, am very glad that this space exists to counterbalance the unfortunate (now happily disappearing) exceeses of my usual site (the Big Orange DK).

Also, I gotta love the rhetorical wheeling and dealing, given that your original post claims that the site admins' BS doesn't stop the site will lose a lot of valuable contributors...while your next message states that you aren't going anywhere. I'm not going to bother with the potentialy logical ramifications of this...

by tameszu 2008-06-11 06:53AM | 0 recs
Re: I still have Rec / Rate but I'm with you!

They are effectively admitting the mistake right now by granting people back their permissions.  I think that speaks for itself.  I still believe an apology is due but that's the only "opinion" portion of my post.

The facts remain; they ignored literally hundreds of examples of TR abuse, probably thousands within a reasonable time frame around when this situation happened.  They then took the one opportunity to punish 50 supporters of one particular candidate for being outraged at a vocal and vial supporter of the other.  Again, seems to speak volumes by itself, no?

I'm not saying the rules don't make sense (although if you read Jerome's own post on the topic they do seem incredibly convoluted) but rather I'm complaining about selective enforcement and entrapment, in this case.  Alegre was the ONLY guilty party here and she escaped without punishment.

Lastly, my valuable contributors comment was related to the 50 people who were arbitrarily punished and those who might be subjected to the same type of thing in the future.  This should've been obvious.  Sorry you missed that.   I don't have standing here at this time to arrogantly declare myself a valuable contributor.

by SpanishFly 2008-06-11 08:23AM | 0 recs
Re: I still have Rec / Rate but I'm with you!

I saw it as 50 people independently angry at Alegre for the dissing of a very serious and well-written post. And there was no "substance" in that post. It was mere dissing.

If we had the promise of the moderators that EVERY abuse of the ratings would automatically mean the abuser lost their rights, that's fine. But many Clinton supporters kept abusing their ratings, and nothing ever happened to them.

This was just Jerome protecting his beloved alegre, now a supporter of McCain. Disgusting.

Re: Amnesty Request Diary

Me too, please. I lost mine at the end of April. My one diary so far, on May 1st, was about this issue.

by kydoc 2008-06-10 06:36AM | 0 recs
To those who think this isn't a big deal

I'm an Obama supporter and have been since before I voted in Illinois.  So, I guess all of the Hillary supporters can stop reading now...

Still there?  OK.

Generally speaking, this isn't a huge deal.  But when there are issues worthy of voicing a position on, like whether someone is a troll, like whether a diary is worthy of being brought to the attention of the larger MyDD community, etc. these abilities are very important.  Alegre would have every diary she ever created appear on the rec list within minutes of it being posted.  They were often inflammatory posts about the man who ultimately WON the election.  You know, the guy representing US and the Democrats we support on this site...

It's also a matter of fairness.  Dozens, maybe hundreds of supporters of Barach Obama were penalized for the offense of liking Obama.  No other reason is evident and many have no idea why they lost their privileges in the first place.  No warning, no explanation, just gone.

There are very few Hillary supporters in the same boat.  That tells you something.  Are you trying to tell me they weren't also abusing TR ratings?  If I wanted to I could probably do a search right now and find a hundred examples in the last 3 days worth of diaries.  So please, don't go there.  Hillary supporters were just as guilty but they had/have an advocate at the top, protecting them.

The primary is over.  Time to stop the pettiness and give these folks a shot at proving themselves again.  90% of them aren't trolls.  In fact, I think many real trolls here are being protected because they PRETEND to be Clinton supporters.  You can say almost anything to an Obama supporter here as long as you couch it in terms of the Obama/Hillary debate.  That's got to end.  I see people pretending to be Clinton supporters using Republican talking points all the time.  One guy actually has in his sig line something about being a former Democrat.  Many are talking openly about supporting and voting for McCain.

The inability to flag trolls like this is a direct result of so many losing this privilege.  Clinton supporters won't flag someone they perceive to be "on their side" even if they're blatantly trolling.  At least that seems to be the case.

I hope I've made the case for many of my imprisoned brothers.  FREE DA PEOPLE!

This is crap.  I was disrespected and and responded in kind.  The folks who did it, but were Clinton supporters were granted amnesty.  Jerome remains pissy because my predictions turned out to be true and his didn't. That's why my stuff hasn't been restored.  He doesn't get it.  Never has.  Probably never will.  Can't wait for the other admins to wake up and toss him.

I'm an Obama supporter and I haven't been deprived of my ability to rec'n'rate.

This is totally unfair, arrogant and downright... elite! I am being treated like a non-entity!

Besides I'm willing to sacrifice myself on behalf of my fellow Obama supporters who were wantonly punished for expressing their feelings.

How can I get punished? What do I have to say? Let me see...

If Obama doesn't pick me for VP I write in Kucinich in November and reveal that Hillary and Barack are closet zoroastrians!

That should be enough to begin with.

Re: Amnesty Request Diary (Update: Success!)

Indeed. In just the last 24 hours, you've TR'ed the following posts:

You're abusing the rating campskunk. Why don't you ever post in the diaries where you uprate smears and downrate non trollish comments?

Having voted for Obama doesn't mean your posts are on point, gracious, or coherent.

And my not liking them doesn't mean your posts aren't on point, gracious, or coherent.

People react to what other people write.

or personally calling  me out, it's against site rules. Also, anyone who tries to say that you can know someone by their associates is a pug troll, trying to say in a left-handed way that we can know Barack through his associates, (like Wright and Rezco). that's wrong for him and wrong for anyone else, if you try to put forth that argument you're working against our Democratic nominee and you deserve to be outed. I've explained it to you many times, Barack has won, and if we want our kids back from Iraq we need to get him elected. Go back to your pug swift boat team home.

You also HRed this one for some reason:

Really?  I've heard this phrase used in many instances in both political and non political circumstances. I know it's getting more play because Andrew Sullivan mocked NoQuarter and their deranged fanatics on his blog. I've seen it used around here for some time now too.  After lurking for some time over at NoQuarter I have come to despise a specific type of Clinton "supporter".  Hence, deadenders.

I'll try to avoid using the word though. I understand where you are coming from. ; )

The last one is my favorite. "I understand where you're coming from." Thanks for working to protect us from that sentiment...
