A recent diary asked the question "Is Obama A Bad Christian?" referring to the brouhaha surrounding Obama's comments this week. Here is a part of his comments...
"""...whose Christianity would we teach in the schools? Would we go with James Dobson's, or Al Sharpton's? Which passages of Scripture should guide our public policy? Should we go with Leviticus, which suggests slavery is ok and that eating shellfish is abomination? How about Deuteronomy, which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith? Or should we just stick to the Sermon on the Mount - a passage that is so radical that it's doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application?"""
This, however, has nothing to do with Obama being a "bad Christian", this goes to the question of whether or not he is a Christian at all.
Obama made the most common error that non-Christians make, treating Old Testament (i.e. Jewish) law as if it were Christian doctrine. Asking us to choose between the two, between 'different Christianities'. If he was brought up as a Christian (as he claims) it is VERY UNLIKELY that he would make this mistake. Christians are taught the distinction between doctrine (new testament) and history (old testament) very early in their spiritual development, so this statement by Obama lends credence to those accusing him of being a Muslim (at least it will in the eyes of most Christian voters).
They will ask "Is Obama a bad Christian? Or a good Muslim?"
Strangely enough, this mistake by Obama would lend credence to the position that he's not a Muslim, either, as Muslims know the difference between Jewish and Christian doctrine, as well (it's actually not rocket science). Only atheists seem to have a problem with this distinction.
But try telling that to a flyover-nation Indie voter.
No, my guess is that he's simply an atheist portraying himself as a Christian, which is the oldest trick in the political playbook. Otherwise he wouldn't have made such an asinine statement.
Politics of change my eye.
So Obama shows yet again his lack of knowledge. Yes, I stand by my opinion: Obama is an atheist trying to pass him self as a Christian in order to deflect the Muslim smears. Good luck with allllll that.

p.s. The funniest thing about this whole episode is watching many here trying to defend someone as being a 'Good Christian', as if you suddenly have respect for Christianity after decades of derisive slander.
Come on, admit it. You don't want Obama to be a Christian, nor do you believe he is. You want him to be like most of us, an atheist or agnostic with a heavy dose of skepticism for anyone who believes in the Man in the Moon.
The last thing we need is another bible thumper in the White House, right?
So stop defending him as a 'good Christian' when you know, or at least hope, that it's not true. It smacks of hypocrisy and desperation.
But make no mistake, this was a huge mistake on Obama's part. He has outed himself as a non-Christian with this ill-timed comment. Because he certainly doesn't seem to have the basic elementary knowledge that a few years in Sunday school would afford him.
With this obvious gaffe, the undecideds will now ask the question: "Is Obama an atheist or a Muslim?" It was bound to happen, things like that always do when one tries to be all things to all people.
But no matter the answer, it will not serve Obama well. And yes, I'm CONCERNED.
Heh.
There's a Rethug that need thrashing.
