Iranian Government Fears Obama

According to John McCain, Sarah Palin, Joe Liebermann, the Neocons and Joe the Plumber, the election of Barack Obama was supposed to "embolden our enemies", epsecially Iran. Well, according to the Jerusalem Post, it ain't really working out that way.

Despite this message, the conservative hard-line camp in Iran is worried about the overwhelming enthusiasm and support for the US that Obama's election has created around the world. A popular American president who talks about peace and wants to negotiate with Iran would take away their justification for leading the anti-American front in the Middle East. Furthermore, increased international support and credibility for the United States represents a more serious challenge to Iran, especially if the international community initiates new sanctions against Teheran. All this while oil prices are falling.

This is why efforts are already efforts under way in the Iranian press to tarnish Obama's image.

Anyone with a little foreign policy common sense knew that our Middle Eastern adversaries used George Bush as a recruitment poster over the last seven years and they were hoping to do the same with John McCain. But if Obama can re-establish ties with Europe and moderate forces on the Middle East, our enemies lose support with the masses. Another lesson in how elections have consequences.

Well, duh

George Bush was the best friend the Iranian hardliners ever had.  Of course they're freaking out over a dude named Barack Hussein Obama that wants to sit down and talk sense.

Re: Iranian Government Fears Obama

The Iranians are not a dumb people. They know full well that Obama will never, never condone an attack on their nuclear facilities. What idiot would put the US and Europe into a quagmire in which oil, now down, goes way, way up, putting inflation over the tip and stopping economic growth during a recessionary period?

The Iranians do not fear Obama, nor Obama the Iranians. Obama fears the Israelis, who could put the US into the dumpster for years to come by an unwitting, stupid attack.

Re: Iranian Government Fears Obama

There are other kinds of fear than fear of being bombed.  This is a short diary and it really wouldn't have been that much work to read beyond the title.

Re: Iranian Government Fears Obama

I agree completely with your take on this.  The hardliners are in bad shape without George Bush to play the role of villain.

Funny that, eh?

Russia is nervous, Iran is nervous, you can count on North Kora and Venezuela being nervous (or at least the jerks in control of these countries) and I bet Bin Laden is crying himself to sleep.

You can almost hear them shouting as people turn away from them: "Hey!  Come back!  I have cookies!".

Re: Iranian Government Fears Obama

ah, but the Iranian people like him and like the idea of America he represents. It will be harder for the mullahs to sell evil America when we elected someone they thought could never win.  Maybe they fear that?

Go figure.

Obama makes the oppressed people of Iran happy and their oppressors miserable.  Bush/McCain, the opposite.

Anything that makes Imadinnerjacket and the mullahs cranky puts a smile on my face.  The Iranian people deserve better, and given a positive example they might be able to push for it.

Thanks for the tip, Randy.

Re: Iranian Government Fears Obama

Our enemies worse nightmare is a USA that people admire and want to emulate rather then one that they fear and hate.

Re: Iranian Government Fears Obama

We made them our enemies.

With Obama comes a somewhat new Iran. They will get a new President in 2009 and it will could be Khatami or some one like him - who is not such a bad guy.

We can not get them to become a secular state or become subserviant to Western influence - but once we recognise that - we can probably find common ground on Nuclear weapons (with the helping of sanctions and reduced long term demand for oil)

Our problems are actually not quite as tough  -the problems were created by the mental midgets who represent 67% of GOP supporters.
