Good old Fred Thompson is so confident of John McCain's chances, that he has already set up his own PAC, according to Marc Ambinder of The Atlantic.

Fresh off his gangbusters speech last night at the Xcel Center, Sen. Fred Thompson's dropping hints that his national political career might not  be over.  An e-mail sent to supporters this afternoon contains news of Fred PAC, his new political action committee.  The PAC, writes Thompson, is "dedicated to helping elect candidates who stand for the principles you and I hold dear - principles that are the only sure salvation for America."

While it's true that he did not come out and say that he is running, we do know that setting up a PAC is typically the starting part for a run. I guess he figures that, even if one old, rich white guy with a trophy wife doesn't win, another one can.
