(New Video)Pastor Wright's Fierce Anti-semitism Tirade

Every Jewis American needs to watch this clip, especially those more liberal Jewish democrats(Steve M?). This is really really scary stuff.

The pattern should be very unsettling for Jews. Dailykooks is becoming a magnet for anti-semitism liberals encouraged by the leaders of that site(Will some of them jump up and down if Israel is wiped off the map?); Obama's 20-year spiritual mentor Pastor Wright's vicious anti-semitism sentiment as demonstrated by a variety of sermons; Obama is surrounded by the most anti-Israel foreign policy advisors in recent history.

If I were a Jew, I would be very very worrie once Obama and his cronies got to the Wright House. Every Jewish voter needs to watch Pastor Wright's sermon before you press the button for Obama. It's about your destiny, your future.

Re: (New Video)Pastor Wright's Fierce Anti-semitis

Obama had this man marry him, baptize his children, called him his spiritual mentor, had him as part of his spiritual advising committee, read his work and listened to his tapes while in Harvard Law, came up with the title of his NYT best selling book from his sermon, has been a member of his church for over 20 years...

yet did not know he held such heinous beliefs.

Re: (New Video)Pastor Wright's Fierce Anti-semitis

An inability to detect a difference between criticism of Israel and criticism of Jews themselves is a sign of Republicanism, not one of intelligence.

Agreed. C'mon my fellow Hillary Supporters, stop being petty. Obama supporters did it earlier; we don't have to.

Re: (New Video)Pastor Wright's Fierce Anti-semitis

We can be petty on this issue too.

What about when HRC had listened politely in the West Bank city of Ramallah as Suha Arafat unleashed a torrent of accusations against Israel?

"It is important to point out here the severe damage caused by the intensive daily use of poison gas by Israeli forces in the past years that has led to an increase in cancer cases against Palestinian women and children," Mrs Arafat said.  She added that 80% of water resources were contaminated, and that the ground was full of chemicals banned internationally.

HRC did nothing at the time of the comments.  Then the next day she still didn't "denounce" the comments:

Mrs Clinton was responding to accusations by Suha Arafat that Israel had contaminated Palestinian areas with poison gas.  "Everyone who supports this (peace) effort should refrain from inflammatory rhetoric and from baseless accusations... that could in any way adversely affect what the parties are attempting to achieve,"

Now more than eight years later I demand that HRC must unequivocally and specifically denounce and reject Mrs. Arafat, or else we'll have proof that she hates Israel.

Re: (New Video)Pastor Wright's Fierce Anti-semitis

Is it really?  To my mind repudiating them for a narrow political calculation would indeed be a lapse of judgement, and integrity:

To Obama's credit, he hasn't repudiated anyone from his past. His campaign strategist, David Axelrod, admits that Obama and Ayers are "friendly." And Obama denounced Wright's comments without rejecting the man himself. How can he? Wright played an important role in shaping him as a politician. Ayers and Khalidi nudged him along the way. To apologize for knowing them would be to apologize for who he is: an African-American, a Christian, a city dweller, an academic, a liberal. Most of those would be exotic qualities in a president. And maybe that's the real problem.

Edward McClelland - The crazy uncles in Obama's attic Salon 18 Mar 08

Is the problem who Obama associates with or who he is?

Really scary stuff is the Nuremberg rally

This is not "really scary".  It's pointing out that israeli policies with respect to palestinians and israeli arabs are racist (true, in part), and that there is a connection between the arab-israeli conflict and islamic terrorism (also true).

Grow up.  And, yes, I'm Jewish.

Re: (New Video)Pastor Wright's Fierce Anti-semitis

If Obama gets the nomination, he could be the first Democrat since the New Deal not to get a majority of the Jewish vote.  The exodus of Jews, Latinos, Asians, white women, and Reagan democrats from the Democratic Party could be devastating to our nation's political future.

OK, touche.  Let's say "blue collar workers."  I think Hillary has a good chance to hold on to a lot of the lunchpail crowd, but Obama will lose them to McCain.

How do you know this about Reagan Democrats

I voted for Reagan twice.  Haven't voted for another Republican for president since.  So, I'm an original Reagan Democrat.  Plenty of us are still around and voting Democrat.  Good chance that I won't this year if Obama gets the nomination so the prior poster's point with regard to me is correct.

Re: (New Video)Pastor Wright's Fierce Anti-semitis

Perhaps not the first. I was reading an article outlining the eerie parellel between McGovern's fateful presidential run and the current state of Obama movement.

McGovern got all the excitement of anti-war youth, AAs, but he deeply alienated the so-called 'silent majority' (the Jews, the blue-collar, other minority groups) of the party. The result: a sounding defeat. On the other hand, these voters did not really abandon the democratic party since they gained seats in both the senate and the congress.

We'll see how this will pan out.

Re: (New Video)Pastor Wright's Fierce Anti-semitis

Yea, there might be some parallels, but the one massive parallel that isn't present is massive, antagonistic protests, radical ideology and the whole "free love" hippy movement.

The Obama campaign doesn't come close to being so confrontational.

Re: (New Video)Pastor Wright's Fierce Anti-semitis

The electoral system has a way to amplify a victory or a defeat. A swing of 2 percentage in popular votes may mean a swing of 5-10 states. I haven't researched McGovern's popular votes, but I doubt it's as dismal as his 49-state defeat.

just more of the same from this pastor who does not seem to realize that Words with substance DO Matter and Do have "blowback" potential.

I have a couple of things that are bugging me.

The first one is... When more and more FEAR and SCARE shit comes from faux news and then supposed "liberals/Democrats and Progressives" continually use the faux news/drudge/hannity/etc. fear and scare crap to "prove" something... well I think is it BULLSHIT!

The second is.... Fear fear fear is what GW BUSH and his crew did and still do!

I am so SICK OF THIS SHIT FROM ALL SIDES!

I think it's really sanctimonious to belabor the fact that Obama attended the church, a church that apparently has an entremely vibrant community.  Sure, he said that outrageous things, but to be frank, I have been able to see the context in all of the comments.  And none of them really bother me.

It's sad, the most basic strategy you people are using is trying to drive apart different groups of people.  Playing Latinos against blacks.  Women against men.  Catholics against Protestants.  And now you're trying to drive a wedge between Jewish Americans and Obama.

Just sad...

Answer this question

Why does he choose to raise his daughters in the church of. Rev. Wright?  Do you think this education will contribute to their development of a post-racial attitude his supporters keep touting?

by lombard 2008-03-17 09:38PM | 0 recs
Personally, I don't think he shares Wright's views

I think he's an athiest and a shameless politician, who will do anything to further his ambitions, such as but not limited to being a newb in town who connected himself to a fiery black Christian preacher, because that's what he figured he needed to do to win an election to public office in the South side of Chicago.

He's an athiest from Hawaii, dressed up as a Christian from Chicago, because he knows that Illinois voters would not elect an athiest from Hawaii.

That's why he's connected to Wright.  And that's why he can't denounce Wright - he'd lose all that street cred in the African American community that he's built up over 20 years of faking it for the locals.

not buying this one.

pastor wright needs to be more careful when saying things "have connections to 9/11", agreed. the thing is, i agree with him that american policy was an indirect contributing factor (especially stationing troops in saudi arabia, which pissed bin laden off something fierce).  more to the point, the US support for the afghan mujahadeen against the USSR was also a contributing factor. so there's some truth there.

there's also another indirect connection via US support for israel, which also plainly plays poorly in islamic countries, but inferring anti-semitism from this short sample is a BIG stretch.

As for Asians, I guess that's why Obama lost the most Asian state in the country? Oh wait.  SUSA had him over 60% in Hawaii while Clinton was ahead by 4( I don't buy this btw, just like I don't buy Rasmussen having her up only 3 in Conneticut).

Don't fool yourself with an OpEd from
the LA Times. Democrats don't own our vote. You forget that GWB got a large share of the Latino vote and when Latinos wake up and realize that the candidate they supported in record numbers is not going to be there. Barack has no history or goodwill with us and many will vote for McCain over Obama and many of us will be so disenfranchised that we'll just sit it out. The only other candidate besides Hillary to get this much of the Latino vote in the past was Bill Clinton. We don't owe Barack anything and we're certainly not mindless drones that are just going to vote for him because he's the only D on the ticket.

Patriotism

What bothers me most about Wright´s comments is how it reflects on Obama´s patriotism. To me this is not about racism, but patriotism. I know Obama is going to try to bury this as part of racism - but it is not. It is about his fitness to be comander in chief.

I would go so far as to say that all of the candidates for president right now are patriots in their own ways, even if we disagree with their policies.  Even McCain.  and i wouldn't vote for him if you paid me.  That doesn't mean he isn't a patriot.
