What Obama actually said about fighting terrorism
by Geekesque, Wed Aug 01, 2007 at 07:51:41 AM PDT
Barack Obama was scheduled to give a speech today on his national security/defense/anti-terrorism policy today.
There's going to be a lot of distortion of what he said, so I thought I'd launch a 'preemptive strike' and detail what he's actually saying.
The details below the fold.

"Yes, we can," is the right answer to the wrong question "Will he" or "Won't he."
Recently, DraftGore.Com submitted their petition with 100 thousand signatures to Al Gore. Al Gore could have the told them not to continue their efforts if he wanted to rule out a run or rule out being drafted. There are no signs that he did. Recently, DraftGore.Com started airing radio ads in Iowa and apparently will air national radio ads as well.

Please find below, potentially useful material for Live earth party discussions, to go along with the case argued by Al Gore in his movie and live earth presentations themselves.
Readers may wish to bookmark them for future use.

This a response to an Obama hit piece titled "Did Obama Cheer For Lieberman?" by poster "Team Edwards", which paints a one-sided version of the events in the CT-Sen race last year. That diary is presently on the Recommended list.
I brought to the poster's attention Tim Tagaris' account: CT-Sen: So You Wanna Know What Really Happened?, by ttagaris, Tue Nov 14, 2006
Tim was the internet coordinator for the Lamont campaign, and his diary provided an inside look into the campaign.

Some calculations based on the 2008 polls published thus far (from RCP) are below the fold.

Regarding the "Global War on Terror"(GWOT frame) show-of-hands question in the first debate for the Democratic nomination, Matt Stoller wrote: Global War on Terror: Clinton Fails, Edwards Shines and an Edwards promoter goes on to explain to us why that frame is so bad (didn't we know this since it was coined first?)
While the current version of Edwards ("Edwards 3.x") is apparently exciting to many in the blogosphere, it turns out that the former avatar of Edwards ("Edwards 2.x") was, as with the war, at the forefront of championing the GOP/neocon frame, "GWOT", as seen in the extensive evidence presented below the fold.

I was pleased to see former US Senator and current Presidential candidate Mike Gravel dish out some raw straight talk at the debate tonight.
The idea then occurred to me that perhaps he should run for US Senate from Alaska, once the primary season for the Presidential race is nearly over (and as expectd, barring a major miracle, Gravel is not headed towards the nomination), as we could certainly use his unfiltered talk in the US Senate.

There has recently been a boatload of criticism of Obama about not having laid out specific plans and proposals.
I am one of those that likes to see detailed plans from politicians and candidates. More specifics, the merrier.
However, it isn't fair to badger Obama for not having specific plans at this point of time in the campaign. The reason being that, Edwards has been continuously running for President for a very long time, six years to be precice, and Obama's campaign is barely a few weeks old.
We need to give Obama some time to put up his plans.
Update [2007-4-1 14:57:45 by NuevoLiberal]: Here is
video from Obama's town-hall style meeting (Q&A) on Saturday in Onawa, Iowa.
