2008 predictions

For the record, here are my current 2008 presidential predictions. Predictions that I made and still hold from previous years are in parentheses.

  • Dem nominee: Obama (2004)
  • GOP nominee: Romney
  • Dem running mate: Edwards (2006)
  • Dem running mate if Clinton wins: Richardson
  • next president: Obama (2004)
  • Regardless of who the Dems nominate, the Dem nominee will win the general election with at least 55% of the vote.

2009 Cabinet:

  • State: Holbrooke (2006)
  • Defense: Clark (2006)
  • Justice: crap, I can't remember...
  • State if Clinton wins: Bill Clinton
  • 1st Supreme Court Justice if Clinton wins: Obama

Re: 2008 predictions

Obama on SCOTUS if Clinton wins? Are you kidding?

Also, I'd guess Clark over Richardson for Clinton's VP, although Richardson is feasible.

It's Toobin's idea, not mine. But I like it.

Re: 2008 predictions

I expect a WH win of no more than the 53-47 Clinton would have beaten Bush 41 without Perot.

House:  +10
Senate: +5
Governors: +2

Re: 2008 predictions

Hillary is the 2008 Democratic Presidential Nominee. Romney is the 2008 Republican Presidential Nominee.

Hillary will select Bill Richardson as her VP runningmate.
The Western Region is the battleground region at the Presidential and Senate level. Putting Richardson on the ballot will help Democrats carry NM,NV,CO,and AZ. This will also help Democratic Senate Candidates in CO and NM(The Udall Cousins). The advantages Richardson has is he is a Governor- He has strong foriegn policy and international diplomatic experience. He is hispanic- This increased Democratic parties strenghth among Hispanic voters. Richardson is pro 2nd Amendment this will not hurt Democrats in states like Texas and Oklahoma.

Clinton-Richardson ticket ends up with 370 ev.
The Kerry states- plus NM,IA,OH,NV,CO,FL,MO,VA,AR,AZ,and WV

Romney selects Sam Brownback as his VP runningmate. HE needs to appeal to Social Christian  Conservatives.

Democrats will pick up 5 seats in the US Senate
VA(Warner),NM(Udall),CO(Udall),NH(Shahee n)and MN(Franken).

Democrats will pick up 1 seat in the Governorship- MO(Nixon defeats Blunt).

In the US House.
AZ-1
CA-4- Doolittle wins primary loses General
IL-11
MI-7
MI-9
MN-3 if Ramstad retires
NJ-3
NJ-7
NM-1
NC-8
OH-15
OH-16
VA-11
+13 Seats.

Re: 2008 predictions

Anyone seen the latest ARG Iowa poll Dec 20-23?

Clinton 34
Edwards 20
Obama   19

Wow, now I understand why Obama is going after Edwards!

Re: 2008 predictions

Yes. An 11 point swing from Obama to Clinton in less than a week? Me not think so. I wouldn't trust ARG as far as I could throw them.

Re: 2008 predictions

And they have McCain still as high as 17% which I think is unlikely.

Perhaps there was never a swing to Obama

In the first place. That thought crossed your mind.

Re: Perhaps there was never a swing to Obama

I just don't trust ARG period. Their numbers are too open to wild fluctuations like this.

Re: 2008 predictions

If Hillary wins, I don't think she will pick Richardson- it will be Clark, I would hope- but we still have a tough nomination fight on our hands.
