I just heard Alegre on the Clinton blogger call (UPDATED W/AUDIO LINK)

Not much of a diary but as I was cruising the blogs I came across a Clinton "blogger" conference call.  I started listening to the call and who do I hear but our local celebrity Alegre.   She said she was going to take her two children to the May 31 DNC meeting to share her views.  Now here is the kicker, she sounded like a normal, even nice person.   It was obvious she has a lot of emotional energy invested in this process but it was a very sincere caring passion.  I often think she goes over the top in her post but after getting a chance to hear her actually talking to Sen. Clinton I have a different, better view of her.  Still over the top but a a sincere over the top.

Meat of the conversation, Talking Points.

  1. Popular Vote
  2. Electoral College Vote
  3. FL/MI Votes
  4. Party Unity in the end
  5. Email Address for video, talking points and anything else they need. (Chelsea is a popular subject of video's bloggers want more)
  6. Ooops lost the Senator off the call near the end.

Below someone mentioned they would like to hear the call, here is a link Taylor Marsh has posted. http://www.taylormarsh.com/audio.php?audio=http://www.taylormarsh.com/podcast/mp3/stream.2008-05-16.134204.mp3

Good to hear Point 4: reiterated

by Lost Thought 2008-05-16 05:53PM | 0 recs
Re: Good to hear Point 4: reiterated

There were more, some not so positive but I made a choice to focus on the positives.

One little tidbit on the negative, encouraging the bloggers to discuss how the Caucus system is not a fair representation.  The example she used were beauty pageant primaries that follow the official Caucuses and how much better she did in the primary.

The argument fully ignores that they are in fact meaningless with low turn out, but what the heck let's not focus on the negative.

Re: Good to hear Point 4: reiterated

She does sound like a nice person. Yesterday she went overboard with her "300 paid bloggers" diary but other than that I respect what she does and have always stated that.

I must disagree

with this comment and the core of the meaning

"The argument fully ignores that they are in fact meaningless with low turn out, but what the heck let's not focus on the negative.  "

Are you trying to tell me that the primary votes that "didn't count" had low turn out? I totally disagree!

Try taking a look at WA state. More than 3 times the amount of people voted in the primary compared to the caucuses. Anyone who thinks ALL of those people, who STILL wanted to voice their vote no matter that it did not count, could have or should have caucused is a fool. There is NO WAY, it was already a huge cluster F and would have been total anarchy if all those people had showed up.

I don't want to hear the false argument that "people who caucused did not vote in the primary", etc. There are people that did BOTH (like they did in TX .. I know their F'd up double vote system counts), there are people that only caucused and there are people that only voted in the primary.

I would bet that MOST old people and disabled people did not caucus. Yes there were some of both in my caucus but some also left early because it was to CROWDED and some of the O supporters became a little too pushy.

Re: I must disagree

I'm not going to fight or argue but you must admit the election after the election is not a good predictor of voter intent.

That's all I was saying.

And yes turnout was small compared to the trend in other primary's this season.

Re: I must disagree

I still disagree with your last point and partially agree with your first point .. and that would go for TX also.

Deal?  :)

I just heard Alegre on the Clinton blogger call

I admire her passion but not her dishonesty.  I've seen too many instances where she takes a cheap shot or engages in a smear, even ones that were debunked months ago.

I wish she'd stop doing that.

Re: I just heard Alegre on the Clinton blogger ca

Right after the Indiana primary, she was throwing around baseless accusations of election fraud in Gary. Until she apologizes for that, nobody should give her the time of day.

by Angry White Democrat 2008-05-16 06:37PM | 0 recs
Yes, we should.

From time to time I'm reminded that we aren't battling the Repugs, this is just bickering within the family.  Well, maybe more bloody than bickering but it's still within the family.

Think about it...we are arguing about who will do better at getting universal health care, not about whether we should have it.

Arguing about who will get us out of Iraq faster, not about whether we should leave, about who will do more to enact fair trade, who will fix public education.

I get so angry sometimes I forget that if I had a political (non-candidate-based) conversation with someone like Alegre or even TexasDarlin we would both be nodding our heads and agreeing about what is wrong and what we should do going forward.

I don't believe Alegre is a racist, I hope she doesn't think I'm sexist.  We just chose different candidates but for the same reasons...fix everything that has been broken over the last eight years.

by GFORD 2008-05-16 09:21PM | 0 recs
Forgot to add.

If the whole country was packed into a gigantic gymnasium for a game of (shudder) dodge ball and the PE teacher said 'Okay, liberals line up on the left and conservatives on the right', Alegre and TexasDarlin and maybe even DTaylor would line up on my side of the gym.  We'd all be lobbing balls at the pathetic conservative team and high-fiving each other when we hit one.

Democrats have a lot of pent up anger we have been harboring for years now.  I hate to see us burn it off before the election has even started or we won't have the energy for the GE we have expended in the primary.  The republicans want that to happen.

by GFORD 2008-05-16 09:28PM | 0 recs
I'm sure she is a very nice person...

First, she's a Democrat and from my experience Democrats are more caring and more open people.  Second, I never doubted her sincerety.  I think she felt abused by DKos bloggers and decided to invest her energy here at MyDD.  And due to said abuse, she felt that it was right to use some of the more weak arguments and to put a harsher tone on it.  I do hope she will be on our side when Obama is the nominee, b/c she is very effective and a good writer.

by nklein 2008-05-16 05:56PM | 0 recs
Sorry, but I have to disagree.....

She's not a good writer....she's a good copy-and-paster.....MAYBE.

And more importantly....hasn't Alegre claimed that she has never met and/or that she does not work for Clinton???

Dosen't this prove otherwise and therefore make her a liar???

by Deano963 2008-05-16 06:38PM | 0 recs
Alegre is a good blog writer...

Part of blogging is finding an article or something and posting about it (not always, but most of the time).  Alegre lays out what she wants well and gets her point across very clearly.  Moreover, she has a following.  I would say that makes her effective and a good writer.

I have no knowledge of whether she met Clinton or works on the campaign, but particpating in a conference call does not make her a liar on those points.

by nklein 2008-05-16 06:48PM | 0 recs
Just b/c one has a following does not

make one "good" at anything, especially writing.

David Broder has a following.......the Cleveland Browns have a following.....Bush has a following.....O'Reilly has a following.....

Broder is not a good writer, the Browns are not a good football team, Bush is not a good President, and O'Reilly is not a good tv show host.

We'll just have to disagree n/t

by nklein 2008-05-16 07:40PM | 0 recs
Re: Sorry, but I have to disagree.....

So, if one meets a candidate, that makes them paid by that candidate?  No I don't believe Alegre has said she never met her.  I am sure she has, but she is obviously not a "paid" blogger.  If you listened to the audio you can tell she is no more a paid blogger than Armando, or the rest of the questioners on the call.

This is
Not an attack, just a factcheck.  From Meet Me In Denver!, which is currently recommended:

I don't know her personally but I think I've learned enough about her strength and character over the past year to know that she's not one who gives up easily.

That's not a claim she has never met senator Clinton, but it's close.

I was on the call and heard nothing negative

It was all positive except for Hillary's hoarse voice at the beginning.  She sounded strong and wonderful as usual.

Re: I've actually recomended the diary

Thank you and I was.

The point of the diary was that it was silly I was surprised she sounded like a nice person.  Behind post and computer screens we often forget there are real people.  People who may disagree with us but real people.  It really was a eye opening experience for me.  I still disagree with her politics but that's the extent of my issue with her.

She's just a passionate, mom with two kids who happens to believe in a different candidate than me, thats ok and does not make her a bad person.

Re: sorry - but what part of the site rules -

I feel like I'm in kindergarten sometimes.

"I'm tattling."
"I'm troll rating"
"I'm hide rating"
"You're sexist"
"You're racist"
"You smell"
"You called out a diarist who makes all her blogs about her so discussing her posts becomes impossible."
"You cheated in 4-square"

Ugh. Grow up. To paraphrase some ancient progressive: The primary is over, (if you want it) the primary is over, now...

Re: sorry - but what part of the site rules -

Actually, as I state in a previous post, this was a news event, not a commentary from this site but from a official "on the record" call (as the Clinton team described it) So I don't see why I can't report what I heard on the call.

I disagree with your assessment, sorry.

By the way, upon posting this last night I sent Todd a email and link to this post asking if the Administrators of MyDD had any issue with the diary, 12 hours later no problems.

But thanks for your opinion

by nextgen 2008-05-17 05:12AM | 0 recs
Its not a call out

More along the lines of "Hey! Guess who I saw on the street today!". And Alegre wasn't hiding herself on the call. It's in the public domain.

Re: sorry - but what part of the site rules -

First I called her.

Normal
Nice
Sincere
Caring
Passionate

Second,

Per the Clinton Rep,
It was officially deemed a "on the record" call hence news.

Re: I just heard Alegre on the Clinton blogger ca

Frankly, I find it very disturbing that someone would get on a call to get talking points and then would go out and blog as if they are just some ordinary person.

No wonder why there are these folks so "on message," yet unable to ever respond meaningfully.  They are just parroting the message of the day.  These are not their own thoughts.

Re: I just heard Alegre on the Clinton blogger ca

She doesn't exactly blog as a normal person. Isn't she the lead blogger at HillaryBloggers or some such? She linked to her home blog in one of her posts.

Here is a golden oldie from linfair which mentions it

Re: I just heard Alegre on the Clinton blogger ca

That's what I was thinking.  I suppose all candidates must do it in this age, but I don't think I like it.  It explains a lot though.

Well, no it certainly wasn't the first time.  I have seen Alegre mention those in diaries and she got mad when I or someone else asked if she was paid.

As I posted below...

Are you on the Hillary Clinton mailing list? Do you visit the Hillary Clinton website? Just doing those two things will help give some bloggers the info or the leads that they may take while blogging.

It is the same with the Obama supporters. I often see what looks like coordinated blogs and attacks from some of the Obama supporters.

Well, "leading in the delegate count" and "delegates  chose the nominee" really doesn't take coordination, its just stating the obvious.

Re: and

It sounds like you're jealous or something.  Alegre has written hundreds of diaries that cover a lot more than just the 2 mins. that she had with Senator Clinton on this call.  Sheesh, you don't think she does research and thinks for herself?  You flatter yourself with your own comments, but they don't make you more pure than anyone else.

by Scotch 2008-05-16 07:48PM | 0 recs
Re: As I posted below...

There is no effort by the Obama campaign to coordinate bloggers, and I dare you to produce such evidence.  They have professional bloggers on the campaign's website, and that is all.

by The Distillery 2008-05-16 09:07PM | 0 recs
Re: I just heard Alegre on the Clinton blogger ca

Hm. On top of that they're paid to do this.

Do you hear the typing in the background?

This is the same way Hillary talks at her fundraisers.

I've been to them, and maxed out my donation amount, before I threw my support behind the Democratic Nominee Barack Obama.

This is a business meeting.

All of the bloggers she is speaking too are paid.  I've been saying this for a few days now.

by AlexScott 2008-05-16 07:52PM | 0 recs
Alegre says she's an unpaid volunteer

We have four tiers here:

1) heartfelt Hillary volunteers

  1. heartfelt paid Hillary bloggers
  2. cynical professional paid Hillary bloggers
  3. republican trolls

I think Alegre falls into the first category. My only complaint is that like her candidate, she's willing to take a position that she knows is flawed if she thinks that such means will justify the end of additional votes.

Specifically:

1) gas holiday - Hillary knows it's disingenuous, but if it works she'll say it

  1. Obama and guns - ditto
  2. Obama the Muslim - ditto
  3. Obama and Wright - ditto
5) Leading in the popular vote by virtue of giving zero votes to Obama in MI

OK, you're right.  There are definitely some bugs here.  Check this out:

  3. saldkjasldkjasldk

1. sdfkljsdfkjsd

  1. sdfiljhsdflkjsdf

The only difference between the two is that there's a blank line above the second 1.  Putting a blank line after 'check this out' would cause the first block to look the same as the second.
