I'd say there are better, more productive polls that could be run. I've contributed to other polling efforts here, particularly the post-election Busby/Bilbray race. Now that was productive! I passed on the White Paper to my Colorado Congressional Candidate and he wove it into his campaign and took a previous Republican seat.
I don't see a Nevada horse-race poll this far out as very useful. It's pretty darn likely we'll see some major shake-ups in the next 6-9 months that will make the current polling and standings obsolete.
This would make things much more interesting. Hillary has the Iraq millstone around her neck now and Obama may flare out (reading the Audacity of Hope hasn't thrilled me yet).
Richardson has some great credentials for what we'll be facing in 2009 & if people start noticing his foreign policy successes, executive experience as Governor and "Westerness" he might seriously move up. I've read a couple items that indicate he may have to deal with sexual harassment issues -- any substance to that?
I'm completely with Chris on this one.
I'm up in the air between Edwards and Obama. I read Edwards campaign book a couple years ago and liked the guy. I'm about half way through reading Obama's "Audacity of Hope" and haven't seen much really hopeful in it yet. The chapter on the Constitution was a total disappointment from a Constitutional Law professor. The guy seems like a Pollyana - but..
Obama fought back and shut the door on Fox when he was attacked.
Edwards -- (so far) has no counterattack. If he can't stand up to the first wimpy attack from some truly despicable characters how in the hell is he going to handle the mess that whoever takes the oath in Jan 09 going to be facing?
The right wing plays by a completely different set of rules and anybody that doesn't fight back hard is going to be stuck in the swamp with John Kerry.
The Dem candidate will not succeed without a damn strong spine!
I wish! I've just printed thirty pages with the last word cut off on each right margin. I'd like to pass this on to my Captains and Precinct committee people for stimulation and discussion but if it isn't in a readable format that would be a wasted effort.
I'm working for Gwyn Green in Colorado in a State Representative Race. This Democratic incumbant has been subjected to 17 mailings, robocalls and TV attacks from the Republican Trailhead Group funded by Oil and Beer Barons and the big Pharma lobby. We certainly have a powerful Republican attack machine running on a state level here.
The good news is that we will probably prevail -- with lots of hard work and effort.
I was amazed at YearlyKos when I met the League of Colorado Bloggers (what a dynamic group they are), and realized just what we have going here with the local blogs, Progress Now, the House Majority Project, Progressive Majority and sites like Colorado Media Matters and especially Colorado Confidential that's ripping the Repug Trailhead group to shreds.
Oh yes, don't forget we're having the national Drinking Liberally Conference here this weekend.
We have a great crew pouring their soul into Turning Colorado Blue!
We're losing a two term Repub Congressman (Beauprez) who is about to get trounced in the governor's race. Our James Dobson district in Colorado Springs has turned into a barely possible D pickup, we may well knock off Marilyn Musgrave AND will likely pickup CD7 that was abandoned by Beauprez.
In addition we now have Colorado Confidential that is now ripping the evil Republican 527 called the Trailhead Group into shreds and Colorado Media Matters is keeping our MSM honest.
There are tons of yard signs and bumper stickers out all over the Dennver metro area -- and even around the state.
In my little pivotal statehouse district, we're starting to get bunches of new volunteers and money is coming in from around the country.
Contrary to Chris's reasoned projections, I think November 8 will be a seriously nice day!
MyDD did a good job on CA-50, analyzing the message and what worked.
What worked in this race? Reading all the live blogging, I was impressed by the ground game, the thoroughness of the Election Day support, the co-ordination between traditional grassroots building and electronic sophistication.
As someone in the middle of a tough Statehouse fight to retain control here in Colorado, I would love a solid after-action analysis by those on the ground in Connecticut from the national and local bloggers. How can we replicate the strength of this campaign to build the November tidal wave for Dems around the country?
Really.
The Townsend Group, all the left over progressive candidate groups from '04, thousands of blogs. We need them all, each plays their own role.
If you don't like what some of these guys are doing then invest your own energy and/or time & build your own organization.
Chris, you've written a number of posts like this and I think you're right on target. We are all centers of power if we choose to ACT!
I'm sitting here in a mountain town running a campaign by building my own Voter action database. Kinda dumb if there was another way. Our state party contracted with VAN which seems to be better than I've seen elsewhere, but I don't qualify for this.
I moved from Kerry GOTV to MoveOn GOTV in '04 because I was impressed with how much better MoveOn was -- and I watched in amazement while their WAC was built in days and improved by the hour. Having built systems in the past I was impressed.
Crappy data hindered both, maybe we'll do better with VAN.
We started a couple Orphan MoveON groups after the election from abandoned volunteers and co-ordinators. We were upset that the MoveON privacy policy kept us from reaching those whose names we didn't manage to get during the depressing day after debriefing.
Yes MoveON has its problems, but its strengths too. I'll take what we've got and work to make it stronger for 11/06 and 11/08
What I really appreciate about Hostile Takeover is that it goes after what I believe is the most insidious and devastating attack on our Democracy: corporate money in politics. Molly Ivans has been a voice crying in the wilderness for years, now she has a great ally in David Sirota.
It's much cheaper for a corporation to buy a Congressman than create new products (think drug companies) or actually serve there market rather than exploit it (think Oil and Music industries.)
If we can move the complexity of this book into frames and images the public understands then we'll take back our Democracy!

Uh, would that crazy person be George Bush?
Is that why several generals and admirals are leaking about resigning?

What a great idea. I'll steal it for our "Register Renters" program over the next couple weeks!
I'd second that! Reading the site (and many others, too) on a Blackberry is a real pain.
