Hillary Clinton: Transforming Innovation Into Wealth

Hillary Clinton is an innovator who creates and brings about new ideas to strengthen our economy. Clinton plans to:

*    Harness the power of innovation to create 21st Century high wage jobs.
*    Invest in alternative energy to create 5 million green jobs.
*    Bring broadband to underserved and disadvantaged communities to create opportunities.
*    Re-energize  manufacturing through creative partnerships.
*    Provide more government support for research that will stimulate the development of new technologies and life-saving medicines.
*    Restore integrity to science policy, reversing Bush administration policies that are holding our nation back.

One example of Clinton's innovation success is the Northern Adirondack Trading Co-operative (NATC). Senator Clinton and Karen St. Hilaire combined their brainpower to find a way to help rural NY businesses increase profits. In 2003 they formed NATC to enable local businesses, artisans and crafts people to increase profits by selling their products on the Internet.

Many participating businesses increased sales to buyers on four continents.  For example, Tim Damon's fishing rod company started earning $5,000 per month on eBay so he hired four more employees. And Sunflower Natural Soaps got a $40,000 order! Hillary Clinton said, "We wanted to create a global marketplace for local products and one year later, we are seeing the positive results of our work."

Through the cooperative members have access to critical tools to establish their online businesses. For example, eBay provides training courses for entrepreneurs participating in the project to help them get the most out of e-commerce opportunities; HSBC provides funding for micro loans of up to $25,000 to capitalize the companies; Clarkson University provides teams of students to each business to help with digital photography and business planning; and Hewlett Packard provides computers, digital cameras and other equipment to help companies get their products online.

By 2005 NATC had increased profits for local businesses by $500,000. The World Chamber of Commerce analyzed the Clinton/St. Hilaire plan and concluded that it was one of the most innovative projects in the world.  NATC is proof of two things: 1) Hillary Clinton cares about the lives of Americans which motivates her to take action to provide concrete benefits for Americans and 2) Clinton is highly intelligent and business-savvy and will use her genius to discover new ways to help America succeed economically!

Fortunately...

she'll likely have some opportunity to make these things happen whether she's in the White House or not.

green economy

I really like the idea of the "green-collar" jobs Clinton was promoting during the Pennsylvania primary.  We need more Democrats doing this.

I think it's ridiculous that we import quite a bit of the equipment used to generate solar and wind energy.

On the other hand those people abroad who buy things from the American rural Internet businesses that she mentioned would not be able to do so if Americans did not buy things from abroad.

Re: Hillary Clinton: Transforming Innovation

Nice diary- great links. We need more jobs here in NW PA- this would be something valuable to our area.

Yeah... but they won't bring the steel mills back

the way they used to.

The jobs aren't all going to come back. More roboticized, "higher paying" fewer people employing factories.

But, we'll get 'em. If you hear of any factories closing down, I'm told that buying up the old tools is an interesting bit of speculative finance. Particularly if deflation starts in earnest.

Innovation and Wealth Creation

Here's Clinton's real genius - she actually met with the people who were involved in the project, got their input, built a coalition of support at the community and congressional level and put a program in place that brought positive change to a whole community in upstate NY. No fancy speeches or sermons, just good ol' fashioned roll up the sleeves and solve a problem approach.
