Lots of opinions here. I'll add mine, as a Montana native who has been active in democratic politics there for about 25 years.
Yeah, a lot of folks think he's being influenced by the health insurance lobby. That pisses us off and we wont forget. I read early in the comments that he doesn't get reelected until 2013 so he's not worried. He should be.
This is a very small state. Most of us who are active partisans know each other and we've been around a long time. We'll be around for a long time to come and we have long memories. We've also had to fight hard to regain our state this last couple of decades, so we know how to carry a political grudge and make something meaningful out of it.
The bigger worry for him are those folks who think he's just being wishy washy while trying to be the big bipartisan hero. He doesn't come off as a dealmaker right now. He comes off as a powerless suit.
Montanans really don't like the "mediator" type personalities, you know? We prefer politicians were clear, forceful opinions, even if we don't agree with them. Max Baucus can't afford to come out of this looking like a wimp. He'll lose all his crossover votes.
Always been a supporter of Max Baucus here in Montana. Even though he's more conservative than I like, he's been very responsive when anyone from my family has contacted his office with concerns or needing help with some red tape problem (and we aint rich neither).
That said, I'm very disappointed in him right now and I'm not the only one. A lot of us would love to see him primaried from the left. Perhaps the biggest disappointment is that it now seems clear he is bought and owned by the healthcare lobby, more interested in serving their interests than the interests of his constituents.
I thought when we got rid of Conrad Burns we'd cleaned things up, but it looks like there is at least one more stain that needs scrubbing.
Thanks, C.G., for this diary. The distraction of that student's foolish, sexist question and the way it has taken over the narrative of HRC's Congo trip has proved just how foolish and sexist our media is. I'm just sad that the attempt to illuminate the rape crisis that is currently facing women in the Congo is being ignored in favor of a gossip piece.
I wonder if the media will take it more seriously when it becomes common knowledge that men are now getting raped in large numbers as well.
I agree with much of what you say, but look where the Republican party is today with their past "kneecapping" tactics. The days of the liberal or moderate Republican are history and their party is pretty much a regional party of white southern males.
So yeah, there should be some consequences for blue dogs who try to hold the democratic agenda hostage. But let's not make the mistake of the Republicans and drive them from the party.
Just out of curiosity, how many rockets and mortar shells has Israel fired into the palestinian refugee camps? Since the ratio of death seems to be 100 Palestinians for every Israeli (20% of which are civilians, right?), then either Israel's fired a lot more rockets into Palestinian civilian areas than the other way around. Either that or their rockets are a lot better and killing.
And of course the third possibility is that Israel is firing into the most DENSELY PACKED metropolitan areas on the planet--the palestinian refugee camps.
A LOT of people don't read the comments. I did read the comments and I understand the idea of "SHAME" recs, but those who come here just to read the blogs don't know the difference.
Shame on the diarist for being an ignorant hatemonger. That goes for these good folks who either have bad taste or who only love the trolls who bash the Clintons:

Can you people actually think this crap is good enough for the rec list? How sad.
When McCain picked Palin, I knew I would be cringing for her. It was painful to watch Dan Quayle stumbling and tripping his way through the campaign in '92.
I have no sympathy for her views of course. I just don't like to see another human being so thoroughly humiliated. She's been stripped bare and her inadequacies and absurd opinions have been revealed to the entire world. She was not prepared for it.
I think the McCain campaign should use the rest of their money to buy her a couple of years of therapy for what they've done to her. The good lord knows the money is wasted trying to get them elected.

Good catch. The codewords and trigger ideas are all through his letter. He's almost certainly a bigot.

"...lavish lifestyle...no visible means of support..."
etc.

my question is -- who was responsible for getting the progressives to the meeting? Because it looks like they had a sleep in.
Judaism is not a proselytizing religion but a social religion. Ethnicity (Jew) is the same as religion (Jew).

Excuse please, what is a Black Charlatan? Because it sounds like you think any black person who doesn't support Obama is somehow not "really" black.
Racial purity litmus test, anyone?
