• My understanding is that the point of Zionism is to provide a 'homeland' for the Jews.  Whereas I don't have a quarrel with that basic tenant, I do have a problem where that 'homeland' displaces another nation.  The occupation of the Palestinian nation by the Jews has no moral standing IMHO.  You have to realize that Israel is open to all Jews from anywhere, but the people that come from that land originally have been displaced, oppressed, disenfranchized,.....  There is no way that that is moral and should be allowed to continue.  Understand, the Israeli's do not get a free ride because of their history, and they are subject to the same international law and morality as the rest of the world. I am glad that the rest of the world is starting to hold the Israeli's to account.

If I can figure out how to add a comment line at the end of every post, it will be a copy of the line above:

    "Zionism is Bullshit".

  • Your comment is significant only in its absence of acknowledgment of the Palestinian dead.  When confronted with a devastating fact, a weak defense seeks to deflect from the truth by introducing a weak faux fact!

The disproportionate response from Israel to a captive people is an outrage that cannot be detracted from by trying to create a pity party for Israel.

How the US became a partner in this Israeli crime against a people is a mystery to me.

  • Good God! Get a grip.  For Gods sake, Hillary has NOT been destroyed.  She was beaten.  Hillary is alive and well and doing very well.  In fact, she is sitting very pretty.  Thanks to 18 million voters, she is now a very desirable surrogate.  She's also a very accomplished, powerful woman in her own right.  I really don't like the tone of comments like this.  What kind of politics is this where you try to destroy the democratic opponent in favor of the republican candidate, just because your candidate didn't win.  Well boo hoo!  There are millions of Americans that need for a democrat to win in November.  Many lives and livelihoods depend on it.

And if you are more comfortable with a man that called his wife a cunt in public and who doesn't believe women must make all reproductive choices for them selves, then go ahead, see you!

John McCain does not support equal pay for equal work, but if you're more comfortable with that, see you!

btw, I am a woman who voted for Hillary, and I  have joined her in her fight to get a democrat elected to the white house.

I tend to think anyone who will vote for mcCain over Obama because of Hillary's defeat were not democrats to begin with.  I also find this to be a tremendous distraction from the REAL fight.  That's beating the republicans in November.

when I find out that my reaction is very close to or even identical to another's.  I watched Obama's response and thought 2 things.  He uses too many words to describe a simple principle.  By the time he has finished his thought, he has lost his audience.  The republicans are masters of boiling it all down to simple jingoistic terms.  It's the simple 'enough' that sticks, not all the nuances.

My second thought is this: Why in the world does he have to be so polite.  He doesn't have to be mean per se.  But why can't he be a little cutting.  As Palin has proved lately, it's the little cutting remarks delivered with a smile that stick.  I could think of a few remarks that would work better.

As soon as the interview was over, my son called me and asked me if I saw it.  He wanted to know why he doesn't go after palin and McCain and why he has to be so easy on them.  He wanted to know when Obama will get tough!

I hope Obama is watching the reactions and takes note that people want him to be tough on the repubs.

  • on a comment on Michelle Obama and Sexism over 3 years ago

You missed the point.  The point of the diary was not why Hill lost, (nor that she lost at all) but that Michele has a sexist attitude and uses sexist language.  The primary is over with respect to O and Hill, this is about women not supporting women, and being part of the problem.

  • That is a disgusting distortion of the truth!

  • Hang tough.  I for one am supporting my sister nurses.  Please everyone recommend this diary, we need to make sure that we support women, their work and the CNA/NNOC.  We can't fold in the wake of such violent tactics.

  • By the way please peruse my diary about the shameoncna.com ads being tacked onto all mydd diaries at http://www.mydd.com/user/moonheart

My objection was the tacit support that MYDD was making by tacking on that very objectionable ad to every diary.

Also, when you can check out this other diary on the same subject:

  • I'm not sure how to reply to this.  My problem is not whatever Andy Stern is doing to strengthen unions, but where his unionizing tactics are seguing into Patient health and safety.  I will apologize in advance because I am a nurse and I tend to view things as a nurse.  If the California Nurse's Association says his unionizing tactics are creating an unsafe situation for patients, the patients come first in my book.  If that means progressives are their own worst enemies, well so be it.  We all have our views, and nowhere does it say that Andy Stern's way is the only way.  I also most strenuously object to SEIU's use of intimidation and threats of violence.  Imagine a nurse trying to lobby for better work conditions and better pt. safety and all of a sudden SEIU is sending goons to their house to intimidate their spouses, moms and dads or their Children?  How scummy is that.  So your so reasonable post doesn't really cut it with me.

  • Thank you for your knowledgeable information.  I think this is what a progressive blog should be all about.  Trying to get out the information on what's going on around our country.  Thanks so much.

  • This is what you posted:

SEIU Healthcare believes that it is best to be a truly national healthcare union, and that when hospital workers and nurses are united, it gives them a stronger voice on the job.  And with that voice, workers can win better deals, support one another and deliver the best care to their patients.

I am not sure how that winnows out.  If you suppress 'whistle blower' protections, how does that translate to having a stronger voice.

I am really strongly pro-union.  However, I believe nurses should have the union that represents their voices and concerns.  Having one national health care union may NOT be the right way to go if that Union is so big and powerful that it does not have to respond to the individual nurse's voices and concerns.

  • Thanks so much for explaining what's going on.  I am really leary of a Union that is making deals with the bosses, not the members.  It's like unions are being coopted by the owners of companies.  Andy Stern may be happy because this is giving him more power, and the business owners are happier because by keeping Andy Stern in power, they are able to exercise their power better.  BUT the real losers are the people that are the workers.  Why isn't there more of a stink going on.  I am so limited in the time that I have to devote to what's going on and now I feel like I am missing something very important.

AND why isn't there more of a stink on this site about the Administrators using an SEIU ad to make CNa look bad.  I am really pissed off by this.

  • My biggest concern is that SEIU is making it a practice (at least that is the information I have seen) to make a deal with the employers not the employees.  This is not a situation that will allow the workers involvement to grow.  If your company gives you a union as a fait acompli, and you were never asked your opinion on the matter, how is that to the advantage of the worker.  From what I understand, the reason SEIU is able to make this type of deal with the owners of nursing homes and healthcare facilities is because in exchange they are lobbying to take away 'whistle blower' protections.  I think there are other reasons, and I am apologizing in advance, I don't have time to look up some of the things I have read previously.  That is not in the best interest of Nurses, their patients and their families.  Why that would be an advantage to other types of health care workers, I don't know.  I have to study up on this some more.  I am in NY, and just reporting what I have been reading.  Any California Nurses out there, can you shed some light on this, whether you are a member of CNA or not?

  • 07.. I've seen some of your posted comments.  I think I have the impression that you are perhaps an EMT?  I hope this percolates more.  What's happening in the healthcare sphere is so important.
