Part of the problem, I think, is that people have a hard time differentiating criticism of actions from criticisms of character. This applies to both sides -- criticizer & criticized.
It sounds stupid, but it's true. Everyone needs to take a breath, wait 5 minutes, and read it (whatever it is) again. Then respond.
Nice sentiments. Wish more would've heeded them during the 2004 elections. Living in the Bay Area, I can't tell you how many "Republican-Lite" crap-fests, backed with no data, I had to endure. I personally don't like Hilary in the primaries, but whatever.
He instantly gave credibility to the disgusting Swift Boat attacks against Kerry by campaigning with Bush. He stood there on the RNC platform along with all those bastards and questioned our patriotism.
But just to distinguish here, access isn't inherently a bad thing, for either journalists or activist bloggers. What is a bad thing is trading access in return for not telling the truth.
That's sort of right, I think. A better formulation though might be, "What is a bad thing is thinking that access means people will tell you the truth."
"It is hard to name a government official with less credibility on Iraq than Vice President Cheney. The Vice President continues to mislead America about how we got into Iraq and what must be done to complete the still unaccomplished mission."

Keep the outrageously corrupt in power, at least until 2006...
I'm never going to forget that.
Now, of course, it should be updated to include Libby and maybe even Abramoff but too many targets clutter the line-of-sight... :-)
Sure, enjoy the moment but the moment will be over soon. Back to work.
