Incredible, in trying to spin Lamont's win the President's Press Secretary Tony Snow let out a little too much.
Earlier today, Snow said the following: "There seems to be two approaches, and in the Connecticut race, one of the approaches is ignore the difficulties and walk away. Now, when the United States walked away, in the opinion of the Osama bin Laden in 1991, bin Laden drew from that the conclusion that Americans were weak and wouldn't stay the course and that led to September 11th."
Of course Papa Bush was the president in 1991!

In a National Journal exclusive, Murray Waas reveals that President Bush ordered Cheney to leak the Plame-Wilson connection to the media ("Get it out" or "Let's get this out" -- were his exact words sources recount).
This story has multiple sources and has not been denied by the special prosecutor's or the president's office. Apparently, in his statement to Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, Bush admitted all of this on June 24, 2004.

Over the past year I've been proud to hear MyDD readers stick up for the the 50 state strategy, against a flood of attacks from narrow-minded party insiders.
Now's your chance to stand up for the strategy that can change the face of the electoral map, disallowing GOP politicians to sit comfortably on their talking points.
I urge you to go to contribute now!:

It will make the point to the rest of the party that you are committed to growing the party not just winning this year's elections.

or at least lets have Pelosi and Dean call for his resignation. For god sakes the man was caught with $90,000 in marked FBI bills and is on tape joking about the FBI listening in to his illegal deals.
When Pelosi was asked if Jefferson should resign, she weakly said, "is a matter between him and his constituents."

By promoting US Trade Rep. Rob Portman to OMB Director, Bush has abandoned his trade agenda. He is consolidating goals, acknowledging his weakness, and showing his dearth of trust in other GOoPers. Rather than picking someone outside the Administration that the GOP base respects, or that is seen as a competent budget thinker, Bush has yet again reshuffled the deck... on one hand acknowledging the need for change, while not delivering anything substantive.
Instead the substantive signal this sends is that Bush will be putting most of his energies towards passing a budget and co-opting Democratic members, decapitating their own trade agenda.
In short, the forces for FREE and FAIR trade have finally beaten the Bush Administration. Trade issues have been relegated to the back burner; little effort will be made to achieve sell trade deals to congress and the public.
