how the 2010 census will turn out. This is just one of the estimates out there. I'm sure there are plenty of others.

  • on a comment on The Florida Factor over 4 years ago

Reapportionment won't take affect until 2012. It will have used 2010 Census data. By then Florida should actually gained two EVs and Utah just one.

The estimates are that the map will change in the following ways: Arizona (+2), Florida (+2), Georgia (+1), Nevada (+1), Oregon (+1), Texas (+4), Utah (+1) and Washington (+1).

    Illinois (-1), Iowa (-1), Louisiana (-1), Massachusetts (-1), Michigan (-1), Minnesota (-1), Missouri (-1), New Jersey (-1), New York (-2), Ohio (-2) and Pennsylvania (-1).

Good news is that this gives the Democrats plenty of time to grow at the national and state levels. Still, the new map will probably make it marginally harder for the Democrats to win the presidency than the current one.

    Its too late.

And I don't say that to be cynical. I just don't know what Dean could possibly offer these states when its such a sensitive issue and much of the anger on all sides is justified. It's a perfect debate because small states and big states, and whole regions can argue that they are ignored with authority.

Even if Dean had something substantive to offer, it would be rewarding those who dared to oppose the party's schedule, fueling further efforts.

I hope I'm wrong. Somebody please convince me otherwise.

  • I agree with ChgoSteve.

An additional benefit: Biden's bid will likely suck up some the GOP's money (read: creditors/bankers).

  • comment on a post Governor Napolitano is the Democratic "kingmaker" over 5 years ago

she is in the same state and region as McCain. So, if he wins the nomination, we won't even be able to count on Napolitano for her home state.

If Richardson wins the nomination and McCain does not then this would be a great move. Aside from taking New Mexico (5) and Arizona (10) easily, it'd make Nevada (5) and Colorado (9) very competitive.

For Sen. Clinton I think it'd be an awful idea. The country is not ready. Let's elect a female president first, before trying to run the table.

Edwards and Napolitano's style are completely different. Hard to say what he'd be looking for before the primary starts, since he's indicated that he intends to run a completely different campaign.

  • Slight correction: The GOP had 236 seats by Oct 1996 because of defectors. In the 1994 elections the Republicans only won 230 seats though.

Conclusion: Let the GOP defections begin!

  • You got that right. Allegedly, Hastings lied to a jury and tried personally tried to get witnesses stories in line with his own.

WP: "Hastings, a federal judge, gets word from Borders' lawyer that Borders has been arrested for conspiring to bribe him and that the FBI wants to interview him. Instead of calling the FBI agents whose names and numbers he's been given, Hastings leaves his hotel without checking out and heads to the airport outside Baltimore instead of National, where there's an earlier flight. At BWI, Hastings calls his girlfriend, has her call him back at a different pay phone, then asks her to leave the house to call him from a pay phone, then calls her back from a different pay phone. He doesn't speak to the FBI until they track him down at the girlfriend's house later that night."

I'd rather have Reyes or Harman in charge than this sleezeball.

I feel bad for Pelosi on this one. If she skips Hastings the CBC will be very upset. They're still licking their wounds from the Jefferson debacle.
