385 Latinos Sign-up in 24 Hours!-Wheels are Turning

Marissa Ferrer-Diaz & Regina Eusebio, radio personalities on Latino AM Rocky Mountain Radio radio  which enjoys thousands of  Latino listerners in 6 states:
New Mexico,Colorado,Nevada,Arizona,Californi a & Utah are reporting today that they have received an "astonishing" number of  close to 400 calls & emails in just 24 hours since the official kick-off of the " Clinton Supporters Count too " movement on the eve of May 14, 2008.

For those who are not familiar with this movement. Let me quote the actual words released to the media:

CLINTON SUPPORTERS COUNT TOO:

"This is the women's group leading a rebellion against the good old boys network of pundits and Democrat party operatives whose sexist assault on the first viable female presidential candidate continues to aid Barack Obama, the less qualified male candidate, over Hillary Clinton, the better qualified female candidate. The founders are a group of white, latino & african-american women who support Hillary Clinton. They are spread in battleground states with headquarters in Ohio. They will not support Senator Barack Obama in the fall."

Ms. Ferrer-Diaz expects an even large  swell of Latinos to come forward once the last primary state is completed & Obama is annointed as the nominee by the DNC.

Latino Activists in Missouri, Michigan, Ohio & even Illinois are reporting similar trends in just 24 hours. The same is happening in the northeast corridor of PA,NJ,MA & NY courtesy of Maria Eloisa Hidalgo in the East coast.

CSCT founders are appearing in O'Reilly & Larry King. The Ellen De Generes show is also reported interested in inviting them.
They are also slated to appear in Latino TV in California & New Mexico next week.

Obama better reach out to these people before its too late.

He is already weak among latinos, women & working class whites.

Now these 3 major blocks of the democratic party have a venue to unite & possibly damage his candidacy big time.

This will get very big quickly if not addressed.

He is already weak as it is with these traditional groups. This will only damage him more.

The email for this democratic clinton supporters group is:

HCFPinOH@gmail.com

Ben Smith has talks about them:

Helping elect a right-wing GOP candidate

because of a tantrum not a legitimate beef is pretty pathetic. And no, it's not a legitimate beef, they all played by the same rules and the Clintons (husband and wife) lost.

Re: Sad little TRs.

I see you're back in the threads being as obnoxious to Clinton supporters as you can possibly be.  You just keep on NOT getting the point and you can watch your candidate lose in November.

Re: Sad little TRs.

And what is the point of a group that won't vote for Obama because they support a candidate who won't be on the ballot?

Re: Sad little TRs.

Pointing out facts is not obnoxious. It's necessary to shake the delusion off of some Democrats. If you're not a Democrat then the facts aren't aimed at you.

Re: Sad little TRs.

This person is a troll. I've seen him around causing trouble. He's been trying to stir up the "latinos don't have love for Obama" crap for the longest time. I have my reservations about his truthfulness.

Re: Sad little TRs.

Indeed, he demanded the Latino vote would put Clinton over in North Carolina, and she'd win it. He suggested a Latino I worked with in NC was a traitor, as well. Ahh, trolls.

Guess you don't want Obama to win

You'd rather dismiss people who support Hillary than acknowledge them. Winning the primary, and insulting Hillary supporters, more important than winning the G.E. Interesting strategy.

Re: Guess you don't want Obama to win

Really? When articles appearing showing that African-Americans would sit this out if they felt the nomination was stolen from Obama because he's too black or whatever MyDDits dismissed it out of hand.

Most people who support Hillary aren't petty children.

Haven't seen those articles

But I don't doubt that's true. They make up a pretty small portion of the population.

Re: 385 Latinos Sign-up in 24 Hours!-Wheels are Tu

Whatever.

Just discount the majority of women under 65 who voted for Obama in favor of propagating a line that will injure women candidates far into the future.

Clinton staffers don't think sexism was a factor in her failure to win the nomination -- They have lots of interesting things to say - Take a look http://www.tnr.com/politics/story.html?i d=f7a4a380-c4a4-4f84-b653-f252e8569915

BTW, Do you really think Hillary approves of this sort of thing?  It's completely inconsistent with what she's said about beating McCain.

Interesting article

It's too bad they had to be anonymous... I'm sure we'll hear more and more of this facinating campaign after the election is resolved and books start coming out.

oops.. more bullcrap PM

the majority of women under 30 may not have voted for Clinton, but the majority of women under 65 certainly have.

Obama 248
McCain 290

Hillary 290
McCain 248

Truth is that Obama is an almost sure loser in November and some of us are trying to stop the disaster before it happens.

Re: Show me your evidence about IL, I need to go

Ah, when Hillary Clinton received an amazing 49% of the Hispanic vote in Illinois against IL's Rockstar without campaigning in the state I believe says it all.

When half of these hispanics living in IL voted for Clinton over the state superstar Obama ( even if she did not visit the state) while Obama won the white & black vote by a landslide says it all.

By the way, I am in Ohio.

Every morning new outlet had this group on the news. The actual press con had not only white, black, hispanic women but also white men.

All very angry registered democrats.

By the way, I do not support them myself.

I plan to vote for Sen. Obama in the Fall.

However, there are a whole lot of Ohioan democrats in both my professional network & civic network of friends who will absolutely vote for McCain in November. They are obviously very unhappy with Obama.

The only good news they plan to support the rest of the democratic ticket for Congress.

How did Hillary win key city wards?
BOSSES | Pledges for Obama fall short: Clinton, Alvarez 'were just very popular with Latinos and women'

Illinois Democratic Party leader Mike Madigan's 13th Ward on the Southwest Side went the same way. Aldermen Ed Burke (14th) and Dick Mell (33rd) both backed Obama and Allen, but voters in their wards did not.

"Clearly on the Southwest Side, the emerging force of the Latino vote -- [Clinton and Alvarez] were just very popular with Latinos and women," Burke said.

Both Burke's and Mell's wards are heavily Hispanic, and Obama has lower support among Latinos than from African-American or white voters, exit polls have shown.

Twenty years after the city voted along starkly racial lines in Mayor Harold Washington's first election, Obama surprised some skeptics by winning Northwest Side and Southwest Side white wards in his 2004 Democratic primary election against State Comptroller Dan Hynes and Maria Pappas -- among other white opponents.

But on Tuesday, most of those same white voters on the Northwest and Southwest Sides voted for Clinton over their own senator. The white lakefront wards went for Obama and for Larry Suffredin in the state's attorney race. African-American wards went for Obama and Ald. Howard Brookins in the state's attorney race.

Latino elected officials have long waited for Hispanics' voting strength to catch up with their share of the population. In a severely splintered race, they may finally have achieved it. Alvarez squeaked by with 26 percent of the vote in a crowded field.

Qualifications

There's only one qualification for becoming the Democratic nominee for the office of President of the United States of America:

1. Win the Democratic Primary by winning the most delegates.

Please let me know how Hillary Clinton has better qualifications to be the Democratic nominee for the office of President of the United States.

Re: 385 Latinos Sign-up in 24 Hours!-Wheels are Tu

You know, if this group actually undermines Obama in a significant way, Hillary Clinton's reputation and her future will be severely injured.

The only way she has a chance at a major future role in the Democratic party - president, vice-president, Senate majority leader - is if the party's elected officials believe that she has done everything she can to help Obama get elected.  If did anything but try her hardest to get the group to disband, she's be done in national politics except as a weak senator, to be kept on unimportant committees.

Either the group is incredibly politically naive and doesn't realize this or they are just a stalking horse for Republicans.

by politicsmatters 2008-05-16 08:23AM | 0 recs
Re: 385 Latinos Sign-up in 24 Hours!-Wheels are Tu

I think Clinton will work her butt off for Obama.
Secondly, I am sure that she will address this group strongly.

But with all that, Clinton is not Bradley of 2000 or Edwards of 2004.

Literally half of all americans who voted in the Democratic primary supporter her. But even bigger is, more registered democrats would have voted for her over Obama when this primary ends.

No matter who much Obama supporters would like to threaten her with her future in democratic politics, she literally & figuratively has a VERY LARGE BASE of Democrats supporting her.

This will not just disappear. Especially if Obama losses in November.

If Edwards was able to mount a run in '08 based on his '04 support, wait until Hillary does her thing if she wants to in 2012.

She will work her butt for Obama. But if Obama fails, no one can blame her for that.

Lets get that straight.

Re: 385 Latinos Sign-up in 24 Hours!-Wheels are Tu

Her base is meaningless if she's marginalized in DC because of the actions of her rabid "supporters". She'll be a senator and get the cold shoulder. That will render her less effective in her job. Her supporters can't do anything about that.

Re: 385 Latinos Sign-up in 24 Hours!-Wheels are Tu

Listen, who says its meaningless.

Kos & Howard Dean?

The power & the voters have the power.

Obama would not be here today if not for 92% of blacks voting for him across the country.

It always boils down to the voters.

Besides, Majority of the Democratic National Committee members are very close to the Clintons.

Agreed -- If she denounces this group and gets them and others of their type to disband.  But if she tacitly lets them move forward, she will face real problems within the party.

Seems to me that the party has already done everything in there power to stop Hillary. I am not sure threats of, "If you don't play nice you won't get to be x,y or z" really carry any weight. Hillary was a "good democrat" for 20+ years and look how they have treated her. She must really believe in the party to not run as an independant at this point

No, do you think Reagan Democrats are some GOP front ?

They are real my friend. Millions of them gave us heartburn & tears in the 80's.

Just because they plan to not support Obama does not make them Republicans.

There are Republicans who will crossover & vote for Obama. In fact thats Obama's selling point.

It just so happen that there will be much more Democrats who may abandon Obama.

The leaders of this Clinton movement in Columbus & Cincy were very big democratic activists who worked hard for the victory of Governor Strickland & Senator Brown.

Two of them are former democratic councilors.

They are real democrats who happen to be angry.

You totally don't get it at all, do you. Hillary Clinton is not to blame for Obama's lack of any qualifications for the office of the presidency, and many Democrats despise that the party has gone along with his candidacy. We aren't going to support someone we do not trust at all, especially after how he has won.I will never, ever support a candidate who's campaign has called me and my fellow Clinton supporters "racist" in order to snare the nomination. That has been obscene. Never will I support him, period.

I can't understand how this group is possibly being discussed in a positive light. It's predicated on the assumption that Sen. Obama will be the nominee, and it's sole reason for existence is to try and ensure that who they believe will be the Democratic nominee for president is not elected.

What exactly is the difference between this group and a Republican 527?

They certainly are free to believe whatever they want, but that has nothing at all to do with whether we here at a progressive site should be praising them. Specifically, if this is what they really believe and is not just a stunt, they in fact aren't Democrats like you and me. At best they're Democrats like Lieberman.

Just because you couch your angry instincts in the language of the victims of inequality doesn't make your claims valid, automatically put you on the same level as veterans of the civil rights movement, or make your actions anything other than self destructive indulgence. I can't recall Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton trying to screw the party on the national level because their preferred candidate didn't win.

I'm still waiting for the explanation as to why you and others in this thread are happily praising a group dedicated to stopping the election of the person they believe to be the presumptive Democratic nominee.

If Obama out of picture they will vote for Hillary. About educated it is a huge myth: I and my friends much more educated than most of Obama followers, it is why we are not falling into Obama trap.

I take it you think this is a good thing?

Anyway,  whatever; there will be enough indies and former republicans crossing over in the opposite direction to counterbalance your 400 Latinas.

They should change their names however to "Mujeres Reaccionarias".

Oh - one other note - as a former radio broadcaster/radio show host - 400 phone calls and emails is a pretty low number for a broadcast area of six states.

I used to get more calls than that in one hour of fundraising on one Pacifica station.

This is exactly how the signs of Reagan democrats started in the 80's.

With the internet today, this will even go faster.

This is serious.

Re: 385 Latinos

You clearly know nothing about Reagan Democrats, which was not an organization but the name given by pundits to a group of voters.

And 400 in one day is not a lot of people.  It really isn't.

Re: 385 Latinos

okay.

we shall see.

keep convincing yourself

while these people keep appearing on TV.

P.S. If I had 400 customers in 24 hours without my business even opening yet- I WOULD BE WEALTHY!

400 among these hispanics in 1 day. Can you imagine how many white voters?

Please do not lecture me about Reagan democrats.

I am too old to be lecture by some 25 yr old blogger.

Myabe I can teach you how to own businesses in 4 states & give six figures to my democratic party.

Instead of typing all day .

Re: 385 Latinos

Of course Sen. Obama will address this demographic, because despite what one might think reading the comments here he's a skilled politician and has earned his spot as the nominee.

The question is why exactly do you and others seem happy to see this? Where are the list of issues this group would like addressed? What substantive dialogue are they trying to create? All I see is a group of people claiming that their preference could not possibly have not been the preference of the majority and lashing out.

lol. What an elitist comment. If you're so rich I hope you donate a ton to help Clinon pay off Penn.

Re: 385 Latinos

I'd rather donate to Obama for November.

By the way Johnny, this is america.

People are allowed to be the best they can be.

It is not a crime or a sin to become wealthy.

If not for Wealthy Democrats, we would not be competiting with the GOP all these years.

The Hollywood money, Rezko money- all the same green.

I am not going to apologize to you for giving my hard earned money to my party.

Re: 385 Latinos

A but it's a crime to pretend that it makes you special. Because it doesn't. Hard work is the single mother with 2 jobs who still lives in poverty. That's hard work. I'm a lawyer. That's not hard work. It's just work.

Re: 385 Latinos

"I take it you think this is a good thing?"

This is a wonderful thing, I signed up immediately for the group. It means people are fighting the horrible turn the Democratic Party has traken, throwing women under the bus, then expecting them to roll over an open their [wallets] for Obama. No in this lifetime!

Re: 385 Latinos

When were women thrown under the bus and how? Please be specific.

by heresjohnny 2008-05-16 09:12AM | 0 recs
Re: 385 Latinos

Well I'm female, 60 and not under a bus - though I had to ride in the back of one pre Rosa Parks.

So since you seem to be one of those folks who thinks that's okay too - I hope you live long enough to grow up and understand the implications of what you've just said.

Re: 385 Latinos join in a silly tantrum

When my 4-yr-old throws a tantrum, we ignore him till he calms down. If he doesn't, we just do the opposite -- usually leaving the store and taking him home. If he gets violent, when we go home, there's a time-out.

This, too, is a tantrum. Sad and ignorable. No one is saying these peoples' vote doesn't count. They're just following the existing rules. Rules aren't always fair, and there's a way to change them. But blaming the winner for a fair loss is a tantrum. And by threatening the Democrats in the election, they are behaving like thugs, and as such need to sit on the stairs for a number of minutes equal to their age.

My son has a 4-minute time out now. These folks would have... how long?

Re: 385 Latinos join in a silly tantrum

Millions of White Reagan Democrats & Latinos is NOT you 4 year old baby.

Big difference

A brat cannot vote. A brat cannot deny the presidency.

Millions of these "bitter" & brown voters can.

They've done it before.

by labanman 2008-05-16 08:46AM | 0 recs
Re: 385 Latinos join in a silly tantrum

You don't vote to "deny" the presidency, you vote to decide who will be president.

If voters like Bush's policies, they should vote for McCain.

If voters like Clinton's policies, they should vote for Obama.

Re: 385 Latinos join in a silly tantrum

You keep bringing up Reagan Democrats as if they're some how the base of the party. They're Republicans.

Maybe 4 weeks will be enough.

Re: 385 Latinos join in a silly tantrum

But there's one big difference. You don't need your 4-year old's vote, or even his approval. You run an authoritarian dictatorship in your home.

However, this country is a republican democracy and no presidential candidate has luxury of ignoring the demands of the voters, or sending them to a time-out.

American voters are adults and will do whatever they damn well please. Any candidate or political party that ignores this does so at their own peril.

Re: 385 Latinos join in a silly tantrum

Thank God Obama never said certain voters and states don't count because they voted for Clinton.

by heresjohnny 2008-05-16 10:50AM | 0 recs
This sounds similar in tone

to the email campaign to the Supers that was driven by some of the more crazed pro-Clinton sites.  I predict it will be equally effective.

Also, why is it only "white, latino, and african-american women"?  What does the group have against Asian women?

Sounds like a foot stomping temper tantrum and sour grapes. Do they think the Superdelegates are stupid?

When you lose big time in November you won't be smirking and tossing around demeaning comments any longer.

Big time? You insult Democrats with that implication.

by heresjohnny 2008-05-16 09:25AM | 0 recs
We're not going to lose "big time."

You haven't been paying much attention this year so far, have you?

All these people would be better offf going against McCain.  The primary is over.

Re: 385 Latinos Sign-up in 24 Hours!

Yeah.  Let's vote McCain over Obama in the general election because McCain shares the same values and issues as Clinton.

Oh wait...

How do we sign up?

Is there a website to add our support?  We need to let our Party know that they can't take us for granted, and we're willing to push back to support Clinton.  This whole race has been a sham---between the sexism and the MSM being in the tank for Obama.  In my lifetime, I've never seen such an abuse of the democratic process.

by izarradar 2008-05-16 11:12AM | 0 recs
Asian-American women too! Woohoo!

Great job, love to see this. My neighbor is a black woman for Hillary. She thinks Obama is sent by the Repubs to mess things up for us.

Latino, Latina, Women, Working-Class protest

Is called "democracy."  All of you critics of this movement have forgotten what democracy is all about.  This is a facet of the Obama supporters that is very troublesome and these protesters recognize the effort by his supporters to suppress or to label those who don't support their candidate as racist, or reactionary, or anything else that doesn't fall into the Obama mind-set.  Many of the websites, Dkos, Huffpo, TPM who have bloggers that have ratcheted up the hatred and vitriol again Hillary, have been started by former Republicans---originators of the hate/low-level attack machine.  I guess you can take the Republican out of of the party, but you can't take the Republican vitriol out of the "new" Democrat.  I've voted Democrat all my life, involved in many campaigns, and have never seen the vitriolic attacks against another Democrat that has happened against Hillary.  Now Obama and Donna Brazile are trying to remake the Democratic Party in their own images---more Republicans/Independents and forget about the Dem. base.  They have taken advice from the Rove play-book---attack their strengths and criticize their choices.  This seems like a very short-sighted political strategy.  If many defect from the Party, it's not the Democratic base's or Hillary's fault, but the fault of Obama, Brazile,, Axelrove.  My son works with many Latinos and he has told me that they basically see right through Obama, see his phoniness/opportunism and they have said that they won't be fooled by it.  That's why they support Hillary.  McCain's immigration policies really appeal to that demographic and so will have no problem defecting in November.
