Vote With Your Wallet!

As some of you know, I drafted up this website a long time ago:
--> Count Florida Votes

If you visit the website, please sign the petition:
--> Count Florida Votes Petition

The website explains all of the Florida debacle, in detail. Elements of this website will be used in the last remaining 'law based' attempt to get those votes counted. We hope that things will move along quickly, so that this case can make it to the Supreme Court.

In any event, there is one very simple reason why Barack does not want Florida and Michigan votes to go through. If you calculate the estimated delegates, based on the vote (remember, Obama supporters in Michigan voted undecided), then you can see that Hillary Clinton would gain another 64 delegates, above what Barack Obama would gain:
http://florida-delegates.com/state.xls

(Spreadsheet software needed for that link.)

I do believe, with a good win in PA, and counting the uncounted FL and MI votes, Edwards would endorse Hillary. So, if you add Edward's delegates (48, including Florida), this could be a real primary election.

Mr. Obama would not have a large lead anymore. So, there is a good reason why he doesn't want them to count. That is why he is fighting this so hard, not because he is intrinsicly concerned about 'followin the rules'.  In fact, for a guy who wants to be the 'American Uniter', you might think he would want to count ALL votes from this primary.  But, he knows, that could lose him the primary.

So, what can I do about this, as a disgruntled 40+ year Democrat?  Well, everytime the Democratic National Committee or Democratic party send me a request for money, I send it back and tell them to count all votes and they will get my money.  Don't count them, and they get nothing from me. Pure and simple!

I think if enough of us 'vote with our wallets', maybe the Democratic party will reconsider their choice to disenfranchise so many American voters.

As I said, I am a 40 year registered Democrat; but I am fed up with this corrupted election.  Sadly, it is my own political party who is causing a portion of that corruption!

Re: Vote With Your Wallet!

Sorry, ma'am, your logic doesn't fly. The Democrats in Florida and Michigan had months to get in line and decided not to. I'm not saying the rules were great, but they were the rules; you work inside the system and play by the rules until you can change them. Blaming it on Obama is dishonest because Clinton wasn't interested until it became politically necessary.

Re: Vote With Your Wallet!

Are you suggesting that we are free to follow only those rules that work in our favor? Senator Clinton's close adviser helped draft the rules and the penalties. For almost a full year, Senator Clinton didn't complain. Trailing badly now, she desperately needs both Florida and Michigan Ok. I get that.

Obama knows that it's not in his best interest to count Michigan and Florida. Would you suggest Clinton would do differently if she were leading and the tables turned?

Florida and Michigan will get seated prior to the convention. Take that to the bank.

Re: Vote With Your Wallet!

I beg to differ with you.  The Florida Democratic party was asking for help, long before HB537 passed the state legislature.  Maybe you need to take a minute out to read the content of the website.  And, Hillary was talking to the Democratic National Organization long before all of this too.  Voting rights have always been important to Hillary. Maybe you need to check that out further, also.

The people of Florida did NOT change the rules.  It was a large Replublican majority legislature, and a Republican governor who did it.  The voters had absolutely no say in this.  So, why are THEY being punished and denied their inalienable voting rights?  No candidate, or political party, should hold themselves higher than this basic American right.  If we do this, what is next, our basic freedoms?

Re: Vote With Your Wallet!

As was mentioned above, several of the members of the Democratic Rules and Bylaw committee are on executive positions on Clinton's campaign. They didn't seem real concerned when they passed that punishment down.

If this primary had been typical,

and somebody had run away with the nomination early, Fla. and Mich. would have been seated before the convention based on the original primary vote. Howard Dean thought he could look tough, and then give in at the last minute after the nomination was already decided. Nobody counted on the race being this close, especially Howard Dean. By trying to look tough and stripping all of the delegates to "punish" Fla. and Mich. for their early vote, Dean and the DNC overplayed their hands. If they had only stripped half, as the GOP did, we would not be having this argument. As it stands now, if Barack Obama wins the nomination by silencing the voices of rank and file Democrats in two states, a lot of people are going to see his nomination as illegitemate. Instead of showing his leadership and sitting down with the Clinton campaign and the DNC to settle this issue, he has hid behind his lawyers and "the roools" to deny those voters a voice in the process, all the while squealing like a stuck pig about "Hillary will do or say anything to win".

Re: Vote With Your Wallet!

Yes, I absolutely DO say that Hillary would want the votes counted.  She has fought for the right to vote throughout her political career.  I don't think that winning or losing would be more important.

If the votes were fairly cast and the voting system itself was not corrupted, I firmly believe that Hillary would be the first one to fight for the voter's rights.

She is not fighting to have the votes counted in Michigan, because she knows this is not correct.  Obama's name was not on the ballot. She IS fighting for a revote, knowing that Obama could very well win that state.  She is not afraid to face the truth from the voters.  Why is Obama?

Quote: "They didn't seem real concerned when they passed that punishment down."

Unless you have an insider in the Clinton campaign organization, you can't say for sure what was happening there.

There is documenation that this situation has been fought since the forced change of date on HB537. The original bill had a DNC acceptable date.  It was changed after the bill was originally written. As Lily Tomlin would say, "And, that is the truth".

Re: Vote With Your Wallet!

They were already affiliated with Clinton at the time they passed those rules. Why'd they pass them if they didn't agree with them? They could've stopped it right there.

"So, if you add Edward's delegates (48, including Florida), this could be a real primary election."

Does Edwards number include half of the Iowa slate that he won that has committed to voting for Obama?  I think that that number is off.

Re: Vote With Your Wallet!

How about all the voters that did not vote in MI and FL knowing that the election wouldn't count? Would that not be disenfranchisement?

Re: Vote With Your Wallet!

Nope, but it does include the 9 that Edwards relinguished to him. LOL.

Re: Vote With Your Wallet!

Florida had a state Democratic record turnout.  I think everyone got there.  I am not sure about Michigan, because I have not been that intimately involved with it.  But, all of us agree, Michigan votes should not stand they way they are.  A revote would be necessary.

Re: Vote With Your Wallet!

Florida had a state Democratic record turnout.

Anyone remember Al Franken's radio show? This is what we call a "weasel" -- a statement that's technically true, but misleading. Yes, Florida Democratic turnout was record-setting, but was much lower than Republican turnout -- one of the few, if any cases (Michigan was as well, I believe) during this primary season in which Republican turn-out has been greater. So yes, many people stayed home because they were explicitly told the election wouldn't count.

Re: Vote With Your Wallet!

Since it NCAA time, how about a basketball analogy....

When the NCAA selection committee selects teams for the tournament, a major factor is the team's overall win-loss record.

Never ever ever have I heard of the committee looking at a team's pre-season exhibition games (those being the non-counting games at the beginning of the season).

Not only did Florida opt to be considered a pre-season non-counting contest, it also prohibited the teams from even practicing for the game.  The time for protest was before the game took place, not at the end of the season when its time for the playoffs.

I personally wish something could be worked out, I very much dislike the fact Michigan and Florida are not going to have a say in selecting the Democratic candidate.

But for anyone to suggest with a straight face that the elections in Florida and/or Michigan were either fair or they should now be counted in their original form is being intellectually dishonest with themselves.

No Donation Without Representation!

Everybody knows that the DNC, under the inept "leadership" of Howard Dean, is nearly broke. And everybody knows that the DNC thus is in desperate need for donations. If Michigan and Florida are not seated at the convention - it's time to say No Donation Without Representation!

All Democrats who remember the disenfranchisement in that infamous year 2000 should vote with their wallets. In fact, we should not only refuse to donate, we should be asking for a refund of earlier donations!

Re: Vote With Your Wallet!

Oh come off it. MI and FL will be seated at the convention by Obama once Hillary drops out. Everyone knows this.

Re: Vote With Your Wallet!

Great idea, yet Soros isn't backing this . . . and he can make ONE donation to cancel out our voices.

Not to sound defeatist, but we simply can't have the 2012 primaries start on Halloween 2011. How the rules were broken is in the past, and now we need to come up with a solution that is fair to all.

Re: Vote With Your Wallet!

"In the last Florida GOP contest in 2000, 700,000 Republicans voted. This year, about 1.9 million did. Democratic turnout was also up dramatically from 2000 and 2004, with at least 1.7 million voting on that side."

I would say, in a state that is considered 'purple', dems showed up at the polls in the correct proportion!
