Kos DNS Problems
Kos is having DNS problems (Domain Name Server). DNS Servers translate english addresses such as www.dailykos.com into the IP addresses that let other computers find his servers. Without DNS other computers have no way to find Kos.
BlueFlorida posted an IP address you can use to access it directly. Here is that address --> DailyKos. You won't be able to login with this address.
Kos is aware of the problem.

according to his registration he should be good through june of this year. there is NO legitimate reason for godaddy to put him on registrar lock, ESPECIALLY if they did not notify him beforehand.
i hope this gives markos and all good libs an incentive to move their domain registration AWAY from godaddy. not only are they assholes, but they are big time GOP donors, and their business practises suck! if my employer just started randomly locking domains without notifying our customers first, we would be out of business. this is bullshit. i hope markos also sues godaddy for lost income.

You can bypass DNS by adding the following line to your Hosts file:
69.9.161.200 www.dailykos.com
Do a search for hosts, open with notepad, go to the end of the last line, hit enter and paste the line above. Make sure the file is saved as hosts only not hosts.txt or hosts.sam
This will let you use dKos normally until the DNS issue is resolved.

i have no clue what this mans. do i paste this whole line in my browser or do i google search "hosts" or what? i don't mea to be dense but this is way beyond what i know regarding the web.

You need to search your hard drive. The instructions below are for windows XP.
Right click on the 'Start' button and select search, change 'look in' to local disk, enter 'hosts' for the file name and hit search. You should see hosts in the results. Double click on the file and choose 'Select program from a list' when prompted. Select Notepad from the list of programs and hit 'OK'. Move your cursor to the end of the last line and hit enter. Paste the following into the line(ctrl + v):
69.9.161.200 www.dailykos.com
Then save and close the file. You should remove the line above after a couple of days.

nope, as when went to save the file per your instructions as just "hosts" and not "hosts.txt" etc i could not get that to work.
it's neither your advice nor anything like that -- it's me -- i am just not getting it, so i'll beg down now since your counsel is working elsewhere and even did for me up to the point of saving the file. i was able to use the search ting and get the wordpad to open and change, just not save it the way you instructed and i am afraid of botching up the PC. thanks tho.

posted something in the open thread referencing DNS issues - I wasn't having any issues with accessing dKos until about 6pm EST. Not sure what the deal is but is says you literally can't find the site - it doesn't exist. How annoying. And I'd just posted a good diary. :-)

basically, that means that godaddy (which is an EVIL RED-DONATING repub company) has fucked him. according to his registration the domain isn't supposed to expire until june of this year. there is no legitimate reason for him to be down right now.
