Rep. Linda Sanchez, single and pregnant

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/reliabl e-source/2008/11/rep_linda_sanchez_pregn ant_now.html

It's actually going to be funny, listening to people who attacked Bristol Palin defend Linda Sanchez. And, vice versa, of course.

They are obviously in different situations.

One is a private citizen, and a kid, and had an "accident".

The other is a public official, and an adult, and the pregnancy is wanted.

But, many of the same people who mocked the one will tell us to respect the "choices" of another.

Three things are certain.

Too many members of both sides of the spectrum will behave with incredible hypocrisy.

No one on The View or Oprah or Bill Maher will be mocking Sanchez.

And, too many people still seem to think that "choice" means "abortion".

I assume she'd call me

if she thought I was the father, right?

hey, dairy guy...

Do you really not see a difference between a 39 y/o woman with a high-paying job getting pregnant and a high school girl?

Is it your position that U.S. society should discourage 20-something and 30-something women from having sex until they get married?

Thank you

for such a good comment, I was just getting ready to say the same thing.

The software should be written that one can't post diaries if s/he doesn't participate in discussions.

Re: Rep. Linda Sanchez, single and pregnant

Way to beat the heck out of a straw man argument that wasn't ever made, while trying to disparage a woman who promotes choice making one.

You're truly on a roll!

By the way, if you're never going to engage in the comments, what's the point of posting these here?

by HSTruman 2008-11-21 10:34AM | 0 recs
Cross posted at far right Idiot

hey Thinksnomore

When Sanchez is forced to marry the person who Knocked her up by her Mother who preached abstinence only  then you have a point

and why would anyone have to defend Linda Sanchez or better yet defend her from who ?
and why would you find it funny ?

Like the people who attacked Bristol Palin you are a dumbass as well

Re: Rep. Linda Sanchez, single and pregnant

Hmm... respecting choices more than one respects irresponsibility. (few people attacked Bristol btw, as far I know, most attacked Bristol's stupid mother)

Where's the problem with that, again?

Oh, I forgot: Republicans are the anti-choice and the pro-stupid party. So it's okay for them when people are morons, and it's not okay for them when people make choices.

Got it.

Re: Rep. Linda Sanchez, single and pregnant

This is none of your, ours, or anyone else's damn business. This is a private matter. It's not about the woman's specific choice. It's that she has the right to a choice, whatever that is, and that it is a private matter. That was the essence of Roe v Wade, the right to privacy.

Whatever mockery the Palin's received was because of their hypocrisy. And the total lunacy and ineffectiveness of abstinence only sex ed.

I have known several women facing this issue. All faced it seriously, and with the love and support of family and friends. Not with a gun to their head. I have seen different choices made,  and supported each one.

This is a woman's private choice. I am sure Ms. Sanchez will make a good one.

Maybe we can talk about some of your choices? Like why your trying to make some kind of issue - or joke? - out of such a serious and personal matter.

You are the only person  I know around here who keeps holding out an apple, say it's an orange and expect everybody to agree with you.

Re: Rep. Linda Sanchez, single and pregnant

Linda Sanchez is an adult.  Yes, most rules about sex don't really apply after age 35.

You, however, are apparently a teenager in an adult body.  So she's not married and not bothering to conform to your desire for compliance with obsolete pieties.  Excuse me, but it's 40 to 50 years since Ingrid Bergman went there. In Europe you'd get laughed at as someone stuck in a time warp for your excitement.

As for your silly obsession with abortion, the pro life belief system is occultic: you have to see all kinds of things that aren't really there to become a Believer in it.

Plus, your side has already lost the Culture War battle about abortion: centrists agree with the present status quo since Carthart and will vote against any changes to it.  So there will never be a majority to overturn Roe v Wade and it's really only a matter of time until the political resistance to it some combination of collapses and dies away (literally).  We know the political math, you can't bluff us with your bullshit.

Oh, need I point out that the Heller verdict has also neutralized the centrists about guns.

HTH.

Really?  Predicting hypocrisy?  Repeat after me:  "I do not support Pre-emptive Doctrines."

Re: Rep. Linda Sanchez, single and pregnant

Yeah, but I bet you'll have no problem when OBAMA predicts somebody's going to argue something.

Hypcrite.

Re: Rep. Linda Sanchez, single and pregnant

Were you attempting to be self-deprecatingly ironic here? You call someone a hypocrite by predicting he won't call someone a hypocrite for predicting something?

Do you have any accusations about things that actually happened, or is your whole argument based on assuming future hypocritical actions?

Re: Rep. Linda Sanchez, single and pregnant

My question to kosno.... Have you ever had "pre-marital relations" and with whom? Yea, not so comfortable now is it. You seem to have no problem making judgments about the actions of a 39 year grown ass well-paid woman whom you know absolutely nothing about. Bottom line: Her child will be well cared for, financially and emotionally. She is prepared and WANTS this. And past that, mind your own business.

Hey Barry, as the self proclaimed Far Right

Democrat, your profilic diaries unfortunately are not appreciated here. The beauty of your great ideas are lost to the progressive bloggers. Unfortunately liberals and progressives  believe in all sorts of bizarre ideas and cannot accept you as their own. I'm glad that you continue to post at places like RedState where you might find your soulmates.

Linda Sanchez, in deciding to have a child,

is setting herself up as an excellent modern role model, showing girls that women in this country can indeed "have it all" (if that's what they want).

Good on her, I say!

Re: Rep. Linda Sanchez, single and pregnant

And, too many people still seem to think that "choice" means "abortion".

The only ones who think that are right-wingnuts.
