Pro-Obama blogosphere tries to blame loss on fraud

In an attempt to save face after the imminent huge loss tonight in PA, the pro-Obama blogosphere, led by self-described Obama supporter Ariannna Huffington, who was recently spotted chillng in David Geffen's yacht in the exotic Tahiti island (Geffen is a billioaire Obama donor), is trying to create the impression that, not only there are significant problems with voting machines in Pennsylvania, but that these problems are targetting exclusively African American areas.

Neither allegation is true, according to Philadelphia Deputy Commissioner Fred Voight, who said the problems encountered have been typical, and described as "flat-out not true" the allegations that only African American districts were having problems.

http://thepage.time.com/2008/04/22/poten tial-of-problems-at-the-pa-polls/

Losing PA is ok, guys. Your leader will be the nominee. No need to manufacture voting fraud. Leave that to the Republicans who wanted to force David Iglesias from New Mexico and other attorneys to waste their time and resources in phantom vote-rigging.

Reality based is

no longer operative for a few Obama and a few Clinton supporters.  Faith trumps empiricism and intellectual honesty for those few on BOTH sides.

Enough with the lecturing, TomP

you were not exactly a model citizen when you were promoting Edwards not long ago.

"Are you still sniffing around my but?"

I am not into sniffing 'but's, but I am sniffing out your annoying preaching these days (on Obama/Clinton supporters) which reeks of hypocrisy given your conduct when Edwards was a candidate.

"I'm just not into you."

I am glad.

Re: Enough with the lecturing, TomP

I beg to disagree.   TomP was one of the fairest bloggers and still managed to remain passionate about his candidate.  Obama supporters just cannot stand when someone does not worship their guy.

you aren't Solomon.  Your act is getting old.  Edwards LOST big time.  Get over it and stop pretending you are above it all.

How does one report at one place indicate the feelings of the entire pro-Obama blogosphere again?

Xanadu, dude, Xanadu.

A place where nobody dared to go, the love that we came to know
They call it Xanadu

And now, open your eyes and see, what we have made is real
We are in Xanadu

A million lights are dancing and there you are, a shooting star
An everlasting world and you're here with me, eternally

Xanadu, Xanadu, (now we are here) in Xanadu

Xanadu, your neon lights will shine for you, Xanadu

Re: Pro-Obama blogosphere tries to blame loss on f

"imminent huge loss" is a bit of egg-counting, isn't it? We'll see tonight. I think it'll be a lot closer than most are expecting.

Re: Pro-Obama blogosphere tries to blame loss on f

Erm, this is what supporters on both sides are accurately called on.

First of all, the election isn't over. Anything can happen.

Second, let's not attribute the rantings of either extreme -- the Obama ones or the Clinton ones -- to the vast majority of their supporters who are reasonable people.

That being said, I don't see how this the blogosphere has tried to blame the loss on fraud.

Re: Pro-Obama blogosphere tries to blame loss on

Eh, when things go wrong, it's human nature to blame one's opponent.  At least the voting problems are being addressed.  I see no conspiracy here among Obama supporters.  Certainly no rumors of "caucus terror" like we've seen from elsewhere.

Arianna hanging with fellow Clinton hater David Geffen. She's probably hunting for a new husband, and Geffen is just her type.

Re: Pro-Obama blogosphere tries to blame loss

That's actually fairly clever, but, it is too bad to see the vehemence towards Geffen?

Not only did he produce some of the finest music if his generation, but he's be a stallwart in the Gay movement, in charities, aids work.

I know he must be renounced and rejected for his sins against Hillary, but kind of sad in a way...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Geffe n

BTW, he fell out with the Clintons when Bill refused to pardon Leonard Peltier, the indian activist, but DID pardon Marc Rich....

Re: Pro-Obama blogosphere tries to blame loss

Geffen is not loved in SoCal, especially for his elitist stance about public beach access near his Malibu mansion. He waged a 22 year battle with the people of California. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8004235/)

And I've read all about his little tiff with the Clintons and I think he's been exceptionally petty about a favor that he really had no reason to expect.

by LakersFan 2008-04-22 11:51AM | 0 recs
Re: Pro-Obama blogosphere tries to blame loss

He was huge fund raiser and contributor to the Clintons, and he was very passionate about Peltier?

The Clintons pardoned Weather Underground, Marc Rich....

What downside was doing Peltier?

Geffen felt he listened to Marc Rich's wife, but not to him?

Yeah, Geffen was being a jerk about the beach?  He also has given millions to Aids research and other philanthropic contribuitions?

You take the good with the bad.

But, I really think it's clear: His SIN was coming out against the Clintons...

Like all who turn against them (Richardson) they must be rejected and ridiculed? And, her followers follow suit...He's just another Judas?

Very Clintonesque in my opinion?

I don't remember a lot of Obama supporters ripping on Murtha?

In my state, BOTH Murray and Cantwell came out for Clinton WAY before he won this state and no one out here is scorning them....

Re: Pro-Obama blogosphere tries to blame loss

Wow, you assume a lot about a lot of people.

I don't like Geffen. He's a selfish jerk who cost my state a lot of money and grief. Sure, he's a philanthopist. But donating lots of money doesn't give anyone an excuse to treat "the little people" badly.

Just because someone is friends with the President and contributes lots of money does not mean they get to put in pardon requests.

And Geffen's "you pardoned Mark Rich, so you have to pardon Pelletier" complaint is just silly. That sort of logic doesn't work elemenatary school school teachers, why would anyone expect it to work with a President?

Re: Pro-Obama blogosphere tries to blame loss

I think Geffen plays for the other team. Arianna might find better husband material if she hung around with men who are attracted to women.

I just think it's hilarious that the diarist would claim that "the pro-Obama blogosphere" is creating controversy when it appears that the pro-Hillary blogosphere has started the same thing.

Neither accusation sounds particularly plausible.

And a Clinton blogger

made the same claims about Obama's win in Texas...and MN (claims of voter intimidation and box stuffing).

  Nice try!

Re: And a Clinton blogger

According to Clinton's own standards...delegates...Obama DID win Texas. The caucuses put him over the top in the delegate count in that state.

Ignore it all you want...it's only facts!!

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I've yet to see a single Obama supporter say he's going to win tonight in PA.  Maybe one or two slipped in while I wasn't looking?

Huh, not sure why I was troll rated for that. I felt the article linked to was relevant and pretty useful, the kind of reminder that everyone needs to calm down and not presume the worst on messy, underfunded election days.

Obama was Cheated!

Call Dennis Kucinich!  Let's get a recount!  When they recounted in New Hampshire, she picked up votes.

Re: Pro-Obama blogosphere tries to blame loss on f

Obama will not be a nominee, unless Hillary will lose all remaining states in the same fashion as she will in NC. Just keep in mind all remaining states (with except of NC) do not have huge black voting block, do not have caucuses and have CLOSED primaries.

Big Win

As a Hillary supporter, I am extremely uncomfortable with calling a "big win" before it happens.

I have been disappointed too may times in my 47 years...

That's funny

"typical, and described as "flat-out not true" the allegations that only African American districts were having problems."

That's what the GOP was saying about the black voters in Ohio in 2004.

Seriously--nobody should dismiss reported voting problems until they are thoroughly investigated.

by rhetoricus 2008-04-22 01:32PM | 0 recs
Re: That's funny

the gist of the story was that HRC was somehow pulling strings in PA to suppress the AA vote. THAT IS INSIDIOUS rumour mongering, and no not every rumour deserves investigation. Or are you out there wasting research money on crop circles?

by swissffun 2008-04-22 01:37PM | 0 recs
Re: That's funny

I'm not remotely interested in conspiracy theories re: HRC's campaign. I am interested in taking reports of voting difficulties seriously, especially when they are reported from African American areas, because those have been so notoriously targeted in the past, and PA has had serious voting irregularity problems. Also, there is no paper trail there.

I would also not drop the matter even though some corporate media entity dismisses reports of voting problems (as occurred in OH in 2004 when the MSM blacked out voting difficulties). Local reporting is a valuable resource.

I wouldn't dream of accusing HRC's campaign of such tactics, but that doesn't mean the problems aren't happening. The Philly Inquirer has one report. If it's widespread, we'll hear more.

by rhetoricus 2008-04-22 01:59PM | 0 recs
go for it
