I understand your anger about the voting records of some of our democratic congress but because some of them come from very red districts, like Charlie Brown, the larger the majority some of those democrats are allowed to vote against the democratic platform or ideal so that they can be reelected in those conservative districts. Having the 'big tent' party makes it difficult for democrats to vote along party lines on some major issues. It's a balancing act and one I'm not too thrilled with either.
They are more fractured in the legislature than anywhere else as democratic constiuances can't seem to agree on anything.
I'm sorry your daughter had to see that. I noticed a few young girls on the stage during the 'iron my shirt' incidnet and one girl of about 10, was quite upset by it. She felt better when the bouncer knocked the guy to the ground though.
I HR'd a comment the other day on this site for a commenter calling some women (who might support McCain) as 'douche holes'....I told him why I downrated it for the sexist remark. Immediately it was Moj'd by about 8 Obama supporters. :(
I think so many males are sexist in their private lives and just not aware they are sexist pigs and don't understand the inapropriate comments they make. Kind of like the guys all telling the 'locker room sytle' jokes and they all laugh- all it would take for awareness if for one in the crowd to say...hey that's sexist and condescending to women...(daughters, wives, mothers, sisters).
Yes- Obama was guilty and maybe someone needs to sit down with him and explain the facts of life...yes as childbears some women have PMS 'periodically' as his wife might...however Hillary is not in that catagory anymore at her age, but it was about her sex, for sure. The dog whistle of Women are too 'emotional' to be CEO's, Polititions and certainly Presidents.
I'm not saying Obama didn't run a good campaign and Hillary lost because of sexism...but Obama didn't run a clean campaign either. As democrats they actually ran fairly clean campaigns so as not to hurt the eventual nominee. The Republicans will not feel that way in the fall.
Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer have all come under the same hits as Hillary. Feinstein more than Boxer because they go after her as a women and a Jew, and of course a liberal elite. I listened to an inteview when there was only 5 women in the Senate and they talked about the scrutiny they got because they were females and had to run campaigns playing down being wives, mothers, grandmothers and women. The humorous part was they said that when they were in a group together in the Senate....they were eyed by the male senators..as a group not to trusted and wondering what they were up to. They all had a sense of humor about it.
A few years back Ted Turner said maybe we should put all women in the Senate and Congress and Administration because the men have done such a botched job of it- the women could probably do a much better job. As a woman....I tend to agree- lol but we are getting more and more women in politics and someday...it won't be an anomaly, but the norm.
Perhaps you should listen to the presumptive nominee:
"What you won't hear from this campaign or this party is the kind of politics that uses religion as a wedge, and patriotism as a bludgeon--that sees our opponents not as competitors to challenge, but enemies to demonize. Because we may call ourselves Democrats and Republicans, but we are Americans first. We are always Americans first." Barack Obama June 3, 2008
I guess I don't believe he means this anymore than any of his supporters, but it would be nice as Bill Clintion said- that two people who love their country could just talk about the issues.
Like Boxer and Feinstein, Pelosi is well liked by Democrats and well hated by Republicans. None of the 3, nor Hillary could speak without the 'shrill' comment being tossed in.
Boxer is my Senator and I am in contact with her and her staff often. I don't agree she was fit to be president in 2008. She didn't run because she didn't want to, maybe next time.
"Second in command" is a heartbeat away from being the next president. NO, it is a very important issue that they pick the right democrat- not just any democrat.

I would LOVE to see a campaign about the issues.

Leaving Clinton out of it. (whom I hope never would accept the VP spot because she has much more to offer) Why the hell would Obama choose Sebelius?
Only to you. We know Obama is the presumptive nominee- we were talking about VP picks- second in command. (his VP pick)
Duh..... the second in command (VP pick) are picking Obama right now? I don't think so.
Now your arguement changes...the Nominee has sole descretion in who he picks to run with him... It's his choice and his alone- I agree with that.
The decision is the voters.
And then there was Cheney.....and what if Bush Sr. or Bush Jr. would have died in office? Pres. Quayle. Pres. Cheney.

The VP pick is about who, other the Presidential candidate is JUST as qualified to be president on day one.
At this time there are no other women MORE fit to be president. (even as second in command). Otherwise more women would have run.
