Tucker Carlson's new show: The bow tie is back

There's something annoying about a Republican in a bow tie: It all started with Rich Uncle Pennybags, the Coolidge-voting robber baron wheeler-dealer in high finance. Inheriting the old man's neckwear was George Will, whose penchant for old-fashionism and stuffy, better-than-thouism has given way to the next generation, television's Tucker Carlson.

Pennybags had an excuse; that was how people dressed back then (just look at Mr. Peanut). Will is wearing the look a little thin, more so as a tribute to the fictional days of yore that he often finds himself pining for. Carlson? He's just doing it to be an asshole. He may idolize past party figures like Pennybags and Will, but he - as a contemporary human being - knows of the stigma attached to bow-tie wearing politicos. He knows people think he's an arrogant moron for wearing one, but he doesn't care. And that's just not right.

I'll tell you what Tucker Carlson's situation is: He's a douchebag. And he's back.

MSNBC today announced that "The Situation with Tucker Carlson" will launch on Monday, June 13 at 9:00 p.m. ET. The announcement was made by Rick Kaplan, president of MSNBC. "The Situation with Tucker Carlson" will be a fast paced, no-holds-barred conversation about the day's developments in news, politics, world issues and pop culture. "The Situation with Tucker Carlson" will feature a regular panel of contributors for lively, pointed and informed discussion of the top headlines and most intriguing issues of the day, as well as interviews with the world's top newsmakers.

"Tucker is one of the most talented journalists working in television today," said Kaplan. "We are extremely proud to have him join our primetime lineup and we know he will bring unbridled passion, knowledge and enthusiasm to the network and his show."

Another blow delivered from the so-called liberal media! With Carlson on board, our domination of the airwaves continues, and our left-of-center point-of-view promises to proceed unfettered and uninhibited. I, for one, am excited. Are you?

Bow Ties and Dress Not for Success
Twenty or twenty five years ago the Dress for Success books came out.  One of the maxims was that wearing a bow tie made you look likw an eccentric jerk or worse.  Carlson and Will merely confirm that thesis.

Except when the wearer is Senator Paul Simon.
The bowtie and the glasses made him seem like a character from a fifties sitcom, which was why so many voters trusted him.
