I like Hillary Clinton

Hillary gave an interview to Wolf Blitzer on CNN today.  Unfortunately it was largely overshadowed by the Edwards endorsement.

Anyway, here is the link.  CNN's links are stupid so you have to  click on the link where it says "watch the full video" and click:

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/14/c linton/index.html

Wolf Blitzer mostly sucks, so the questions weren't particularly insightful.

Nonetheless, Clinton was very gracious and reasonable and showed  integrity.  There were only a few instances where she really sounded like she was spinning, most notably was when she talked about Michigan and Florida.  One of my chief problems with her has been a certain inability to admit error, so I really appreciated her agreement with Charlie Rangel that her "white working class voters" was ill-advised.

I still favor Barack, but this interview reminded me why I had such a difficulty time deciding who to support four months ago.

Re: I like Hillary Clinton

I like Hillary Clinton as well.  She is a fighter and she is a wonk, both things that I admire.  I honestly don't believe she ever meant to wage a divisive campaign.  I wholeheartedly believe that the divisiveness has been 99.9 percent the fault of people who aren't actually democrats (the media and the Republicans) who insert themselves into the Democratic Primaries, especially online where people can be anonymous and then they stirred up shit.

Every negative post, every negative, sexist, racist, divisive diary or comment should be looked with a hairy eyeball.

I also don't believe that Hillary ever meant that particular phrase the way that some people interpreted it and I am happy to see her elaborate.

ever = never

damn my keyboard and the kitties trying to play with my ankles while I type!

Nice comment about Hillary

and the one about your kitties made me laugh. You're actually pretty lucky. My kitties, one in particular, has a habit of slipping up onto my desk when I'm too busy to notice, and walking across my keyboard when she wants attention. It invariably sends whatever I'm typing flying towards it's destination half finished.. arrrg, lol

Re: Nice comment about Hillary

I have two baby kitties, just over 10 weeks and they are a collective ball of energy.  So far, they haven't found the keyboard...and I am not looking forward to the discovery!

Re: I like Hillary Clinton

I lkie her two.  Historically, I have always wondered what was wrong with people who are undecideds.  But this time around I had a really tough time deciding between the two.

I think the divisiveness from the Clinton side is more a function of her advisors.  Her staff served her very poorly in this campaign.  It is also the function of her personality. She's a fighter and it is not part of her make up to give up if there is even the slightest chance she could turn the tide.  That persistence, in and of itself, proved divisive.  But who can begrudge her one of her most admirable qualities?

Re: I like Hillary Clinton

Indeed. Hopefully, we'll move into full conciliatory mode. If I had it my way, I'd try to get Obama and Clinton to campaign together over the next few contests- not side by side, but complimenting each other.

I also think Obama should throw his cabinet picks out there in mid-June, when he throws the Veep choice in. I don't think it'll be Hillary; I think she'd rather stay Senator, she'd have more effective power that way, in any case. Anyway, I'd like to see 'em all out there, hitting the trail for Obama. Webb, Hagel, Clark, etc- great people who can help shore up Obama's experience credentials, and demonstrate a true push for a bipartisan ticket.

Your diary is refreshing and point succintly made.

I respectfully disagree with your conclusions about HRC's position on MI and FL. But that doesn't prevent me from rec'ing this diary. Please keep writing more. Thanks.

Re: I like Hillary Clinton

I also enjoyed watching this interview. Was it just me or did Hillary strike a far more concilliary tone than before? For instance, when Blitzer asked her about McCain tieing Obama to Hamas, she called it wrong and didn't even seem eager to highlight her differences with Obama vis a vis meeting with Iran.

Re: I like Hillary Clinton

One thing is certain:

Beard Blitzer is entirely worthless.  I've made a drinking game of CNN's Blitzer primary coverage.  It goes like this:

"We're following this very, very closely" = 1 drink

"Let's take a look at the numbers" = 2 drinks

Needless to say, CNN is destroying my liver.

Wolfie the Moron

Or how about as he's cutting someone off, he says, "we'll have you back, we have much much more to say about this."

That's when I want to trim his beard with a flamethrower.

Good one.  I'll make that worth three drinks.

I'm not sure I'm at the point yet where I can

say I "like" her but I did like that interview, she sounded more reasonable and sane imo.  It did remind me of what I liked about her Before late January.  It's funny for me to remember that at one point I was totally in the Hillary camp.

The Couric interview

was probably her toughest one of the day.  Hillary got a shot at McCain about his original opposition to making MLK's birthday a federal holiday (I guess this point is supposed to be analogous to the abortion issue for women?).  It's probably a weak argument; McCain recently apoligized for it and admitted it was a mistake.  If she's the nominee, I think African-Americans will eventually come out to support her; according to the quinnipiac poll, African-Americans are the demographic group most hawkish about her for VP if Obama is the nominee.

I Dislike Hillary

and the way she has campaigned from Day One.  She thought she was inevitable.  She thought it would All Be Over on Super Tuesday... and Michigan & Florida did not count then!  Continually she distorted Barack's record, insinuated oh so slyly that as far as she knew, he was not Muslim.  She exploited Rev. Wright and Rezko, in light of the fact that both Rev. Wright and Rezko had been to the White House!  She encourgaged her surrogates to fuel a racial and gender divide and still is with the impact of making the U.S. more racialy and gender divided than ever.  She lies at the drop of the hat (Sniper Fire) and then tries to laugh it off like lying is a joke!  She represents the past and what is wrong with politics today.  I hope Barack has the good sense to not consider her for VP.  You have to be nice to her or she will go ballistic and not help Barack to get her supporters who are certainly deluded that she is a good woman or maybe it is because she is a woman!  That should not be a reason someone votes for a President.  Neither gender or race should be a requirement, although Hillary has encouraged this.  I am glad we are turning the corner.

Good God. Why didn`t you just say.. See spot run. It would make just as much sense.

I'm not going to lecture you on maners,

because it's not about hand holding and good feelings.

It's about being a good and effective advocate for things you want. That's what Barrack knows, that making friends is more powerful than making enemies. And flowers can be just as deadly a weapon as the sword.

I appreciate your honesty. In fact, I share a lot of your feelings about the Senator and her campaign, but I know that's likely an irrational emotional response because she attacked my favorite candidate in a generation.

At times like this, when someone is fighting our fight effectively for us by saying they like Senator Clinton, you and I would do well not to jump in and poo poo it. No?

And we'd do better to step back for a while until we can see again why so many of our fellow progressives DO like Senator Clinton. Even if Obama is the better candidate.

Heh..."I like Hillary." Vote for Obama.

Funny, funny...It won't work.

So people can't like both, but prefer one over the other?

You seemed to be a sad, sad individual. Why so bitter?

Re: I like Hillary Clinton

I didn't say vote for Obama.  I simply noted, in passing, that he remains my preference.  If you'd prefer mindless cheerleading, the rec list contains many diaries which will better meet your needs.

I personally

dislike Hillary and her ole style politics. Besides her lack of ethics, she is one of the most truth-challenged politicians that I've seen in sometime... and her sense of entitlement is breathtaking.

However, there are times that she can be gracious and charming and I can see how people can be drawn to her. I wish her the best of luck.

Lost my rate/ reccing abilitiies...but its a sweet diary.
