Obama goes Walmart, Hillary goes Rezko, and Edwards talks issues

(Image from time.com.)

Tonight's debate may very well have been John Edwards' best performance, and he's had a lot of good ones.

Amazingly, the media seems to agree.

The Nation:"Edwards Excels in Ferocious Democratic Debate"

Marc Ambinder:"He is dominating the debate so far"

ABC:"John Edwards is probably winning on points and tone -- taking Obama off his game, but pushing his message effectively even from the sidelines of the main event."

New York Times:"Mr. Edwards turned out to be something of an honest broker tonight."

Politico.com:"If Hillary cast herself as the partisan warrior who can go head-to-head with Rudy Giuliani, Edwards is trying to turn the shifting GOP terrain to his advantage now that a candidate with real appeal to independents and Democrats is leading the field."

CNN:"John Edwards got himself back in it -- he showcased his style and his key issues, and is clearly back in the game. He showed he continues to deserve to share a debate stage with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, and voters here will likely give him another look after tonight."

Re: Obama goes Walmart,

He did very well tonight.  I know I liked better tonight than I ever have- because for once, he went after BOTH- it always seemed like he was one side or another before- he seemed more FAIR tonight.

My thoughts

i thought edwards had a verryy good night tonight! i think hillary had an o k night and she didn't make any gaffe's, which i think is what she wanted. obama was on the defensive in the first part of the debate and didn't have one of his better nights, although he did come out swingin. i think this debate will help edwards nationally, it won't have much effect on clinton nationally, with slight, negative consequences in s. carolina, and it will help obama in s. carolina, and possibly hurt him nationally..

Re: Obama goes Walmart, Hillary goes Rezko, and Ed

Absolutely. I do think that Hillary showed how skilled she is in debates and had a really good performance.

I think Obama was good at times, but he made some huge errors.

He also made the biggest mistake of the campaign, allowing Hillary to bring up Rezko in response to one of his attacks (Walmart).

She was totally justified in bringing it up, and now that it is part of the political vocabulary, it's going to be an issue.

Re: Obama goes Walmart, Hillary goes Rezko, and Ed

The narrative on Larry King tonight from Candy Crowley was that John Edwards won the debate between the squabbling of Hill and O.  She said some in the audience thought there was too much arguing.  She seem pretty astute to point out that Hillary was really looking past SC in tonight's debate.  I'm curious to see the polls and spin in the week to come.

Re: Obama goes Walmart, Hillary goes Rezko, and Ed

By bringing up Walmart, and allowing Rezko to become a word in the political vocabulary, Obama made a terrible mistake tonight.

Did you see how satisfied Hillary was once he said that? She saw the opening. She set him up.

And did you notice their squabbling stopped the moment she laid the Rezko bomb, and then Edwards started talking?

Edwards most certainly won the battle. Hillary strengthened herself for the war. Not sure what good comes out of the debate for Obama, even though the Obamacans are thrilled.
