Oh, that's bullshit. The PR value of the photos isn't going to cause a marginal increase in the attacks on our troops. It will, however, provide the GOP with an attack vector to blame Obama for each new attack, regardless that the photos had nothing to do with it.
Obama is simply covering his ass. It isn't surprising, he's a politician, it's what they do.
I also think Obama is counting on SCOTUS to make him release them. It's disappointing but I suspect the end results will be the same.
Of course the FCC requires all licensees to efile these days, but petitions objecting to the license must be physically delivered. It's almost like the don't want to hear from us.
It's my understanding the whole "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" nonsense was encoded into law by Congress, so unlike Truman who could simply desegregate the military with an executive order, here I think it will take Congressional action to undo horrible and ridiculous policy.
So it's going to take a lot more effort to fix this problem, because the GOP would love to have another chance to prove what a bunch of neanderthals they are. Fine, let them prove it, again, but it will take time and resources and there are other fights that simply have to have a higher priority at the moment. I just don't see Obama doing anything legislatively here until stuff like the economy, the budget and health care are dealt with. Of course, if Reid finds his balls, he could make it happen, but I suspect Reid is far more interested in protecting his Seat in his upcoming race in 2012.
That said, Obama probably can make it much harder for the military to investigate and find "hte gays" and slow down or stop many of the dismissals under this law.
I'm more then just a little annoyed that Lieberman didn't even get his hand slapped... but he's small potatoes... and that vote was just tactical. Could Lieberman cause trouble down the road? Yeah, but I think it's clear Obama has his eyes set on the bigger battles and he's just not going to waste any effort on the small stuff. ANd in the grand scheme of things, Lieberman is small stuff, very small stuff.
Even Bush has now accepted that we have to out by 2011... so I'm not sure Iraq really matters all that much anymore. Yeah, there will be flare ups and stuff and lots of blogger teeth nashing in the next couple of years but there are a lot of bigger issues to deal with at this point.
And yes, I hope Obama and his SofS can accelerate our departure, but spoken as someone that has ALWAYS been against our little Iraqi adventure, it's really time to focus on how best to leave, not how fast.
I think the leaks were deliberate. Obama knows that there is a world of difference between a presidential campaign and the office of the President. There's no way he can have the same sort of discipline that he's had over the past couple of years. And the Press needs stories and there are just too many people in and around the WHite House. So rather than have the press dig, dig, dig, Obama "allowed" it to be leaked because that way he gets to control the facts and the particular narrative and make sure the press has something to yammer on about this weekend. I bet a lot of other important stuff now flies under the radar as we spend the weekend discussing how good of a SofS HRC would make. And I suggest that this will be a pattern we'll see a lot of in the coming 8 years - always make sure the press has something to chew on.
McCain is going to throw Palin under the bus and Palin is going to throw McCain under the bus and everybody is going to throw Steve Schmidt under the bus... it's going to be a big throw them under the bus party over in GOPLand.
And yeah, they'll work double, triple overtime to polish up McCain's reputation. But I'm sorry, even tho' I believe the Palin went rogue... way, way rogue (she's the rogueist)... apology not accepted Sen. McCain.
Yeah, I really think this is the blind spot for all the posts that have the race close. The post election analysis should be interesting.
Also, Nate Silver suggested that polls validate their models by proofing them against the data they've collected from the early voting exit polls. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what Gallup did - because it seems the Dems are really taking advantage of early voting... go us.
Anyways, all of this anecdotal evidence is making feel like a landslide is very possible. Which I'd love to see as it would really knock the air out of the GOP and stop much of their post-election whining about how ACORN stole it.
When I read the title of this topic I assumed that it referred to what's going to happen to Fox's programming after Obama wins on Nov 4th. They had a pretty miserable job defending Bush's record... I suspect they have a much more enjoyable time attacking Obama.

The GOP deserves to be nothing more than road kill.

hehehe, that's pretty funny.

Sorry, no trying on Fox.
