Hemp & The Hinchey-Rohrabacher amendment

The Hinchey-Rohrabacher amendment (HR 5672) would have blocked the Justice Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) from harassing ill and elderly patients who use marijuana medically to treat their conditions. It failed by a vote of 163 to 259, June 28, 2006.

Congressman David Obey (D-WI) told the White House, the Congress, the Justice Department and the DEA to butt out of meddling in citizens' medical affairs.

Congressman Obey asked: "When is this Congress going to recognize that individuals in their private lives have a right to manage their problems as they see fit without the permission of the big guy in the White House or the big guy in the Justice Department or any of the Lilliputians on this Congressional floor?"

Kentuckiana's Ann Northup (R-KY), Ron Lewis (R-KY) and Mike Sodrel (R-IN) all voted to allow government to meddle in people's private affairs to destroy them.

Thomas Jefferson expressed American values this way:

"The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government."

To see how your representative voted go to: HOUSE VOTE

To find your representative's email address go to: CONTACT CONGRESS

Then send them a Happy 4th of July email and ask:

What makes you think you're qualified to tell me that I can't take medical marijuana that I know helps me?

Why did you vote against letting me use medical marijuana for my life and happiness?

Why are you against American values?

Then tell them that:

President George Bush, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, former Vice President Al Gore and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas have all admitted to using marijuana. There's no telling how many members of Congress use and have used marijuana.

Is it fair to arrest three quarters of a million people a year for doing what presidents, governors, Supreme Court justices, and members of Congress have done?
POT-SMOKING POLITICIANS

If your representative voted for the Hinchey-Rohrabacher amendment, thank them for standing up for American values and good government.

Dems killed that amendment

There were 18 GOP standing with the sane and 53 Dems going over the top for the War on Drugs.

Do the math!

Bear in mind that there's no ideological overlap between the parties these days: almost certainly, every one of those 53 will be rated as to the left of every one of those 18 on DW-NOMINATE and similar measures.

A real Dem profile in courage there...

Re: Dems killed that amendment

The questions posed to be asked of the nay voters can be asked of them all regardless of party affiliation. Hopefully, the questions can serve as a shot across the bow so to speak to challengers in the upcoming election.

The hempster voter base is there. They have to be energized and make their presence felt.
