Re: Honest Ed Rendell

Not only honest but smart.

Senator Clinton really needs to follow Gov. Rendell's advice, he is a true friend and supporter, not somebody who just tells her what she wants to hear.

yada yada yada

Rendell answered a question with an offhand "yes".

It really is not that big a deal.  This obsession with Penn by Obama's supporters is mostly funny.  They always seem to need a boogyman to rant against.

Oh I would

reporter :
Do you think they should cut him off completely, I mean ...
Rendell :
Oh I would
Reporter :
You would
Rendell :
Yeah

Must be my limited understanding of English, but that really doesn't sound offhand to me.

Heh.

Seems many Clinton supporters don;t share your enthusiasm for Penn. I have seen him bashed here on a regular basis by Clinton supporters, some of whom have been calling for his ouster since the night of the Iowa caucus.

by Bob Johnson 2008-04-08 07:14AM | 0 recs
What are you reading, Bob?

Are you responding to a claim of enthusiasm for Penn, or a claim that Obama supporters are strangely fixated on Penn?

I know the answer, do you?

And if you know the answer, then doesn't acknowledging it constitute an admission that you are kinda sorta trolling?

Frankly, I could care less about Mark Penn.

Or whether or not Hillary cans the guy. Who cares?

I am laughing at the umbrage taken to the mention of him by Rendell noted in this diary.

Seems to me, a lot of Clinton folks don't much care for Penn. Would you disagree with that assessment?

by Bob Johnson 2008-04-08 11:18AM | 0 recs
Re: Heh.

Yep, my guess the reason why some Senator Obama supporters have an "obsession" with Penn is because they reckon he is losing Senator Clinton votes.

Re: yada yada yada

"This obsession with Penn"

It is unfair. What is all the fuss about? I mean, ALL THREE FIRMS hired by Colombia to push their trade deal have DIRECT ties to the Clintons....why is Penn the scapegoat.

Personally - I hope Clinton keeps him. He has succeeded in screwing up what was once an inevitable victory lap for the Clintons.

And by keeping him - she is firing up a base that had previously been rather quiet (despite their endorsement of Obama)...the Unions.

Hoffa's teamsters are on the road today....spreading the message through PA.

Re: DisHonest Ed Rendell

But unlike Bob Casey Jr. (whom he played a big role to elect), he's intelligent.

Re: DisHonest Ed Rendell

Don't care about Casey. But considering all the dumb things Rendell has said, not to mention wrecking his own political career by being a hatchet man for Hillary, I'd say he isn't very smary either.

Re: DisHonest Ed Rendell

I lived in PA for over 20 years and know Rendell personally. He has a bedrock of support in Philly.

In fact, I went gay bar hopping with him the night before his last election. He does it for luck.

The people of PA know and like Ed Rendell. Supporting Hillary will not harm him. Only Obama cult members would think that way.

Rendell will likely be the next Senator from PA, replacing Specter.

Re: DisHonest Ed Rendell

It's good that the people of PA like Rendell because his political career will go no further than there after the garbage he's hauled for Hillary.

Re: DisHonest Ed Rendell
LA -
See my post below. Rendell has endorsed HRC and that is fine - but he has (from the beginning) made it clear that he will vigorously stump for Obama if he is the nominee. No reason to bail on Rendell...we will want/need him.

Re: DisHonest Ed Rendell

I'm sure Rendell will try to mend his fences. But that cabinet position the Clintons promised him is definitely off the table.

Re: DisHonest Ed Rendell

Now that may be true!

My point was only that we see how quickly HRC supporters jump on those who support Obama...and its not constructive, b/c when there is one nominee - we want every damn democrat 'busting a hump'. I found it difficult to read all of the attacks on Dodd, Richardson, Casey, Daschle...not b/c I am naive and dont think people have faults...but b/c of where the attacks were coming from...other democrats...at a time when the real enemy is McCain.

But again, I agree it will be a tough see for Rendell (unless he is seen as 'delivering' PA) to Obama, if Obama is the nominee.

Re: DisHonest Ed Rendell

McCain is the real enemy? You wouldn't know it from this blog which constantly bashes the Democratic Party's certain nominee.

Re: DisHonest Ed Rendell

my point exactly.

Re: DisHonest Ed Rendell

It's pretty obvious that Obama is the Democratic nominee.

by Liberal Avenger 2008-04-08 08:30AM | 0 recs
nothing is certain
Nothing Rendell can say or do will make me vote for Obama.  I didn't vote for Casey in 2006 just because Rendell backed him and I will not vote for him ever for anything.  I was mad at Rendell for telling Gore to concede in 2000 and in 2002 I went to work for Rendell full time for free to get him elected.  He has been a good governor and I like him and would vote for him again if he could run.
Your problem is that you think he will damage himself one way or the other depending on who he supports.  It doesn't work like that in real politics.

Re: nothing is certain

No. I think he has damaged himself not by simply backing the wrong horse, but by doing it in a most unsavory manner.

by Liberal Avenger 2008-04-08 08:29AM | 0 recs
Re: nothing is certain

Wasn't he the one that implied that leaders in PA should be careful who they endorse lest they piss off the Governor who gives them funds?

Wondering...

by JenKinFLA 2008-04-08 09:34AM | 0 recs
Re: nothing is certain

Yeah. He also said some voters wouldn't vote for Obama because of his physical characteristics. One can only assume he meant they'll vote for Hillary instead.

sigh....

I sighed too when Rendell said that.

Re: DisHonest Ed Rendell

Can we refrain from lines like "Obama cult members" and actually have civilized discourse...?

rolf

if only you knew how silly what you just said is.  I am not even going to explain why, I am just going to be amused by the idea that you think Rendell has ruined his political career.

by TeresaINPennsylvania 2008-04-08 08:02AM | 0 recs
Re: rolf

Like I said. He can kiss that cabinet post goodbye.

Re: Honest Ed Rendell

Just to save people clicking, part of the linked report goes:

Gov. Rendell: Clinton should dump Penn altogether

Mark Penn shouldn't just be out of his job as chief strategist for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign, he should be cut off completely from her operation, one of the senator's most important supporters says.

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell told USA TODAY's Kathy Kiely yesterday that Penn "was just dead wrong" when he took on the job of promoting a trade deal that the Colombian government wants to strike with the USA even though Clinton opposes that trade pact.

Rendell

Man, I wish this guy had backed Obama. I like him a lot. I do, however, find much solace in his repeated comments where he (like a good democrat...and smart one too!) will 'bust a hump' for whoever runs against McCain (i.e., HRC or BHO). That is loyalty to the party and its ideas. But again, I wish he were stumping for Obama in PA...
