Hillary's $14 Million and Rising [Updated]

Updated: [Hillary Clinton's campaign website just posted that $14 Million has been raised with 143,000 donors. With donations averaging $125, the campaign has raised another $1 Million online in one day.]

Hillary Clinton is setting pace for record fund raising for the month of February. As of today, the campaign has raised $13 Million with over 135,000 + donors. The campaign's initial goal of $3 Million in 3 days after Super Tuesday quickly rocketed to $10 Million with 100,000 donors. Clinton's Super Tuesday wins include the largest and most coveted prizes, California and New York. She won red states: Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Tennessee. She won blue states New Jersey and Massachusetts, overcoming the high-profile Kennedy endorsements in Massachusetts to pull off the biggest upset of the day. She also won purple state, Arizona. New Mexico, which is still counting ballots, is poised to tilt into Clinton's win column as well.

The campaign website's home page now features fund raising and donor totals, and spotlights supporters' testimonials who are digging deep in their pockets and pocketbooks in a flood of support after Clinton loaned her campaign $5 Million of her personal funds in January.

On February 7th, the campaign issued the following press release:

Super Tuesday Victory Generates More than $4 Million Online in Single Day

The Clinton campaign today announced that it raised more than $4 million online in the day after polls closed on Super Tuesday. It was Hillary's biggest single day of contributions since the campaign's launch.

The campaign had set a goal of raising $3 million in three days -- and exceeded its target in less than 24 hours. The new goal is $6 million in 72 hours.

"We are gratified for this tremendous outpouring of support," said Clinton Campaign Internet Director Peter Daou. "From over a million volunteer hours to millions of dollars in contributions from thousands of online donors across the country, Sen. Clinton's grassroots support is a key part of her campaign's success."

In the past 48 hours, more than 35,000 donors have contributed to the campaign, helping Hillary keep pace with the combined fundraising power of Sen. Obama's campaign, MoveOn, and Sen. Kerry's 3 million person email list - to which Sen. Obama now has access.

Another grassroots effort hit the blogosphere, encouraging supporters to donate at least $10.44 by February 12th to help make Clinton the 44th president. As grassroots support and contributions continued to pour in, the Clinton campaign created an online "Thank You" book, featuring campaign trail photos and testimonials. In an email to donors, Clinton's message was clear: it's the people's campaign.

"As the race for the nomination continues, I hope you'll remember that you have made this campaign your campaign. Our victories are your victories. I know that you are standing with me and that I can rely on you for help. And with your support, I know we'll win."

[Updated 1] As of this afternoon, only one (that's right one) media outlet is reporting Hillary's $13 Million record fund raising. Last night, MTV posted an interview with Pres. Clinton online that mentions it. It is irresponsible of the media to blackout, thereby mislead voters about any candidate's campaign. Hillary is keeping pace with, or closely behind Obama in fund raising. The two candidates are close in delegates and popular vote. The delegate rich states in March favor Hillary. This race isn't over, not by a long shot. I want the MSM to stop peddling the candidates, report the news instead of skewing it, and let the voters decide.

How 'bout I tip BOTH of you?

Thanks, grlpatriot, for reporting what some would rather have us ignore... Hillary's grassroots is STRONG, and we've raised $13 million for her in just EIGHT DAYS. This is great news, but we can't rest on our laurels now... We need to keep up the great work! GO HILLARY! :-)

Re: How 'bout I tip BOTH of you?

No said she wasn't strong... just that Obama is MUCH MUCH stronger.

I was wondering why the site had quotes with $10.44 on it... Now it makes sense.

Re: How 'bout I tip BOTH of you?

I also notice none of you have said she is outraising Obama?

we'll never know.

obama yanked his dollar totals down when it beecame apparent that hillary's total was rapidly overtaking his and about to beat him at around $8 million. we haven't seen it since.

Re: we'll never know.

You are sadly mistaken.  I would bet serious money he raises at LEAST $10 Million more then her for the month.

Not Outraising Obama Yet

But, you must admit for someone who is supposedly about to tank according to the MSM. She's holding her own.

some would rather have us ignore

There is virtually nothing reported on this in the MSM. It amazed me, which is why I posted this. The media sucks.

Pissing contest

What does it matter if you raise all that money but don't bother spending it wisely? Why isn't she campaigning in Wisconsin? Is saturating the Texas airwaves really that helpful given the bizarre delegate rules that virtually prohibit anybody from winning heavily there? If you want Hillary to win, go out and organize, phone bank, canvass. Money won't decide this thing at this point. Delegates will.

She is in WI

Re: (I don't like them) Pissing contest, but

Now, that Hillary has money, she'll be able to better compete with the frontrunner, Obama. Here's some news about Wisconsin if you really want to know what the Clinton camp is up to:

Chelsea was in WI Monday and Tuesday, Bill will be in WI tomorrow (Valentine's Day). Hillary will be in WI starting Saturday through the primary election on Tuesday, Feb. 19. Hillary's campaign released two new ads in Wisconsin on Tuesday. In an interview, Hillary said, "I'm also looking forward to Wisconsin... [and] I am definitely going to be in Wisconsin."

-snip-
"I will be campaigning in Wisconsin and I'm excited about participating in Wisconsin. I think it's a state I've been to many, many times in my life having grown up next door in Illinois and having been a Girl Scout that camped out and had church retreats, so I've been in Wisconsin a lot."

On Tuesday evening, Clinton's campaign confirmed the New York senator will be in the Badger state starting Saturday through the primary election Feb. 19.

Clinton is scheduled to attend a Democratic dinner on Saturday in Milwaukee. No other details of her visits have been released.

Clinton's daughter, Chelsea, campaigned for her mother on Monday and Tuesday in the state. Clinton's campaign hasn't released when she
might be in the state.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Clinton campaign confirmed that Clinton's husband, former President Bill Clinton, will campaign for his wife in
Madison, Milwaukee and La Crosse on Thursday.

Statewide Clinton's campaign has the support of Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton, Rep. Tammy Baldwin and Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk.

"I'm proud to have the endorsers that I have, of course, the lieutenant governor is for me and I have a great base of support across the state," said Clinton. "We each have our supporters and we
are both very proud of the people who support us, but at the end of the day, there are only two names on the ballot. It's Sen. Obama and
me, and I think it's up to the voters to decide who they think will be the best president and who would be the best nominee for our party."

New Ads Coming To TV

Wisconsin residents might soon see campaign ads popping up on their televisions. Clinton's campaign released two new ads on Tuesday.

"What I try to do everyday is figure out how to help somebody," said Clinton. "You know you can't always pass the laws you want to pass right away. You can't snap your fingers and get people to cooperate. You have to work on that every minute of every day. But you can try to help somebody every single day. And I've tried to do that as a public servant, as an activist and now as a senator. And that's what I will do as president."

A second ad states: "She fought for universal health care, long before it was popular. Got health insurance for 6 million kids and expanded
access to health care for the National Guard. Now she's the only candidate for president with a plan to provide health care for every American. A top economist calls Hillary's plan a difference between achieving universal health coverage, and falling far short. If you believe health care is America's moral obligation, join her Tuesday."

-snip-

Well good for her

At least she recognizes now that Wisconsin might actually matter for her.

The ad is pathetic by the way. 18 debates isn't enough? The health care bit is fine, even if I disagree with her. At least it's substantive. But trying to accuse Obama of running away from a fight is laughable and reeks of desperation.

A victory for her in WI would be losing by less than 10 points. Obama has gone populist in WI today, tying Clinton to NAFTA and free trade. He's got Madison and Milwaukee in the bag. If he holds up well along the Mississippi River he'll win easily. Wisconsin is not as blue collar as many people think.

I think

more and more people are checking out her Universal Health Care plan. I commented about her plan here:

Re: I think

More people are taking this election seriously and realize what's at stake.

Re: I think

Perhaps so. I was at church tonight and talk turned to politics. I started to cringe to hear what I thought would be "hillary hatred". It was not. It was positive statements about her. It seemed that they don't really care much for Obama. It's not that they really disliked him it was just that there's "no there there". And the evangelism stuff doesn't appeal to them. They're probably the kind that would switch to McCain if the nom was Obama. They're not hardcore democrats.

The grassroots support

is deep and I think this will be a big month for the campaign.

by grlpatriot 2008-02-13 05:08PM | 0 recs
Problem is

The grassroots support needs to also translate to Netroots support. I can not believe that with all of the Clinton supporters out there, that we can not get a friggin diary at Dkos on the rec'd board and then protect it from being hijacked.

If there are "other" supporters hijacking diaries with trollish hit comments, then we need to do as they do and report them to the admins. They love doing that.

Your diary at Dkos should be IN the rec'd list at Dkos all day!

"Problem is. . .

. . . the grassroots support needs to also translate to Netroots support."

Does it? Not trying to be flippant, but does it really matter what diaries are on the recommended list at Daily Kos? The overwhelming majority of voters do NOT get their political info on-line. Most people on-line are not looking at politics.
And, of those that are, most have probably made up their minds already anyway. And people going to sites like DK, rather than to "neutral" sites like CNN, etc., are almost certainly already committed Obama supporters. I think it does almost as little good battling for Hillary there as it would doing so at an Obama rally, although I sincerely respect, admire even, the committment and tenacity that you show by trying.

by freemansfarm 2008-02-13 06:48PM | 0 recs
Yes

I am not talking about just political info.

The truth is that the media watches the blogs, especially DailyKos. The candidates campigns watch the blogs, especially DailyKos. The John and Elizabeth Edwards and their staff read and watched the blogs, especially DailyKos. The grassroots uses the blogs to spread info, drum up supporters, get people excited to work for the campaign and more.

If not for the netroots, Obama and Hillary would not be raising money as they are, they would not be conecting to the rabid base for organizing and action.

The netroots are VITAL and need to be used and pushed!

by kevin22262 2008-02-13 07:02PM | 0 recs
Re: Yes

Why does it matter if the candidates read the blogs? Is Hillary going to be discouraged if diaries supporting her don't reach the recommended list at DK? Nor do I see much evidence that the traditional media pay much attention to the blogs. As for fundraising, I agree that the netroots have helped Obama, but Hillary got the word out that she needed cash without Daily Kos having much to do with it. Same with spreading information. People looking for info about the Hillary campaign are simply not going to go to DK, or similar sites, to find it. As for drumming up support, my whole point is that Hillary is not, and cannot, drum up much support on a website where the overwhelming majority of the posters and viewers are already commited to Obama.

Hillary has her own website, which she plugs frequently. There is also her fact hub site. And there is the totally pro-Hillary site of Hillaryis44. And there are other sites, like this one, that are gathering places for Hillary supporters.

I guess what I'm saying is that Hillary already has a net presence. It's not as big as Obama's, but then Hillary's target audience is not so much on the web as Obama's is. I'm not saying she should cede the net to Obama, but I don't know why there needs to be a beleagured, pro-Hillary contigent on a site if just about everybody else there is for Obama.

by freemansfarm 2008-02-13 07:26PM | 0 recs
On balance

freemanfarm, I see what you are saying; however, it's important, if only for symbolic reasons, to show a presence on the "big" blogs, even when the waters are not welcoming. Hillary has thousands of netroots supporters who are timid about jumping into a feeding frenzy. Maybe they are lurking, more casual, or even passive, but they are there nonetheless and they need to see pro-Hillary information online, especially when the campaign is doing well and the MSM isn't reporting on it.

Most importantly, the main reason why I posted this diary, is that the MSM was not reporting Hillary's $13 Million record fund raising - and I mean NO outlet reported this yesterday. MTV posted an interview with Pres. Clinton that came out after I posted this diary and has a mention of it. It is irresponsible of the media to blackout, thereby misleading voters that a campaign is in trouble. Hillary is keeping pace, or closely behind Obama in fund raising. That's news and this race isn't over.
