The Fainthearted Faction Phase II

It's time to take the campaign against the Fainthearted Faction to the next level. A very few of you may be familiar with the John & Ken Show's Political Human Sacrifice against David Drier. I won't say any more about the campaign then what is provided in those two links. This will be a controversial proposal and that's all it is - a working proposal.

We need a tactic that will compel the stragglers on Social Security to take the issue seriously. The idea is politically incorrect to the max. It is morally offensive. It will also work.

My suggestion is that we pick one Democrat from the Senate and one from the House as targets. I would prefer Sen. Joe Lieberman and either Rep. Peterson or Rep. Ford. The floor is open to nominations.

Don't they realize they're being used?
It's amazing how some Dems can be in the middle of it all and still not realize what's actually going on.

The hallmark of the Bush presidency has been the ability to use moderate/conservative Dems to divide and conquer the Democratic Party. Plain and simple.

Why is there no "plan" yet? Because the fight isn't really about such things as caring whether people receive Social Security benefits. It is, as the now-famous WH memo stated, an opportunity to fundamentally change the political landscape. How does one interpret this as anything other than the hyper-competitive Bush scoring a major victory over the Dems?

Oh, and BTW -- I have a new name for those who support Bush's Social Security "plan": Bush's SS Troops. Kinda like the ring of that.

And today the House GOP leaders were threatening "partisanship" if the DEMS don't get into line.

How priceless is that?!

They act like the Dems ought to caucus with them.

What amazes me is how any decent center Dem could be with the GOP on SocSec.  After all, the decent center GOPers are with US!!!

How can Arlen Specter and Olympia Snowe want to prevent gutting Social Security, and yet there are Dems who are all for gutting SocSec?

All the Dems have to do is straighten up and do it.  Fight for Social Security.  Make a mean-spritied fight out of it.  Make it very public.

And the whole public can just sit back and wonder "What kind of pricks would want to gut Social Security?"

The Conscience Caucus
I guess I have been remiss in mentioning the Conscience Caucus. That's why I am suggesting Human Political Sacrifice. There is no principled reason for any Democrat to be furthur right on Social Security then moderate or liberal Republicans. Any Democrat who chooses to give Bush politcal cover on Social Security should be politically sacrificed.

For dumping a Zell Miller on his ass?

There should be one.  Zell Miller's presence at the RNC was insane and unforgivable.

The guy's a total quack, a Dixiecrat relic.

Even Robert Byrd has brains enough to not show up at the RNC!

I think we need to ask the candidates for DNC Chair if they are going to impose sanctions on any Democrat who strays from the fold on Social Security.

TNR has run two articles recently that I link to in my diary How to be an opposition party II. TNR is subscription only, so I block quotes large sections of the article that itemizes the threats and sanctions Republicans used to defeat Clinton's healthcare proposal.

David Brooks doesn't think the Democrats can pull it off, in his editorial The Gingrich Democrats. If David Brooks is against it, in most cases I'm all for it.

When are Dems going to stop taking advice from O'Reilly and Brooks? If Martin Frost is elected DNC Chair the party is finished anyway. It is way past time to push back.

Worse, he talks like a clumsy movie reviewer who doesn't really hate anything but tries to be snippy and clever.

Agreed.  If Brooks opposes it, it's gold.

BTW -- I guess you are right that the DNC is the #1 person to punish Zellots.

Who to dump.
I'm with you on getting rid of Ford. What a slime that guy is! He openly admitted that he was only with us because we were right "more often than the Republicans," which I interpret as meaning that he figured to hitch himself to the winning horse back in the Clinton years. Since then, he's voted against progressive interests on dozens of issues, from the war in Iraq to the Bush "Mediscam Drug Bill." And he even had a nerve to tell us not to be angry about what Bush was doing and the way he got elected!

I say, screw Ford and the horse he rode in on!!! The guy's nothing but a political opportunist who smelled blood in the water after the Republican victory and decided to side with them, but now is sliding back to us, since he realizes Dean might be the chair and will punish him. We don't need sleaze like him in our caucus.

Again, I say DUMP FORD!!!
