"This Election is Not About Issues"

So said McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/ 2008/09/mccain_manager_this_election_i.h tml#more

"This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates."

Such is their wish. Davis wants and needs this to be about how voters perceive the two candidates - Obama raising vs lowering taxes, Obama as inexperienced/ready to lead, Obama as celebrity.

Don't let it happen. Talk about the issues.

Own the issues, and you will own the election.

Rick Davis is a scumbag

But he's right that they're trying to make this not be about the issues, because that's where the Republicans lose every time.

Ah, but the debates will be about issues. And for once America appears to really be paying attention to an election.

"And for once America appears to really be paying attention to an election."

Um, this country also elected chimpy TWICE. I think it's fair to be skeptical.

But isn't that so true? Every time I get into a debate with a Republic once facts and issues come up they always resort to the same character assassination that Charlie Sykes or Savage programmed into their head

Huh

Calling them "Republics" probably doesn't help the discourse.

Here's an issue for them:

McCain/Palin fought money on teen pregnancy programs

WASHINGTON - Republican John McCain has opposed proposals to spend federal money on teen-pregnancy prevention programs.

Palin herself said she opposes funding sexual-education programs in Alaska.

"The explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support," she wrote in a 2006 questionnaire distributed among gubernatorial candidates.

Re: "This Election is Not About Issues"

Issues is where Obama needs to take this to win.

He needs to own issues.

Personality will backfire.

Bush=McCain will backfire.

Palin=not ready will backfire.

Re: "This Election is Not About Issues"

When is an election ever about issues?  There's a reason that the impoverished of this country consistently vote Republican.  Identity trumps issues every single time. It makes my head hurt.  Still, when I read this, it did give me a WTF moment.
