what text message?

Ok- so this will be a lame, lame diary.  Here goes....

I'm actually pissed.  We were promised to be "the first to know"- yet the mainstream media broke Obama's VP as per usual.

I have to say, I am let down.  I know, I know, big deal.  No text.  Or a text tomorrow.  I'll get over it, I'll live.  I didn't need to be the first to know.

Couldn't they have planned this out better?  Why even pretend to be able to break it to us first?  Why not tell us all yesterday- instead of letting it go until the night before when the Secret Service are assembling.

Could this have been a PR blunder?  I wonder how much the media will cover the TXT Message Mistake.

Anyway- I'm still holding out hope that this is a big HEADFAKE and that Obama will txt me the REAL VP choice any minute.  Sorry Biden.

My first thought

was that they should have done the text BEFORE sending the SS.

My second thought was what the SS would say to an unprotected VP candidate sitting at home.

It may have come down to "your text thing is cute and all, but we WILL be there when you announce".

Meh...I have spam-blockers

that would stop the flu.

But I'm not blocking DNC mail, and certainly not Obama mail. I want to win this year.

Hmm, no

I misread your initial comment, actually.

But...I'll still be glad to donate. If it's not overdone.

Re: what text message?

The media has a job to do and that is to get the news out...FIRST.

I'm not complaining about the media

I'm complaining about the Obama campaign.  They shoulda planned this better- or don't go signing people up and promising them a txt message BEFORE anyone else.........

Re: I'm not complaining about the media

You're missing my point. The Obama campaign did not officially release his Vice Presidential pick. Obama's pick was leaked by insiders to John King who announced it on CNN. You will get your text message, you just won't be the first to know.

you're missing MY point

I don't think he should have set up this whole gimmick if he couldn't make it work out.  Just bad form.  Yes, I know, I know - the MEDIA did it- but COME ON!  Couldn't Obama have expected this- especially allowing the choice to come so late when the frickin Secret Service was already arriving at Casa Biden???

Re: you're missing MY point

I never thought it would of worked, despite the fact I practically hovered over my blackberry over the last three days. I guess they learned a valuable lesson this go around.

Re: I'm not complaining about the media

not necessarily campaign insiders.

There are the people who were rejected, government officials involved in getting the secret service over there, travel plans had to be made.

I'm impressed the cone of silence lasted as long as it did.

Re: I'm not complaining about the media

Well.. There's all that "advice" he gives him. And then it magically turns into snark once enough people think it's stupid.

i think they were banking on

the idea that most people are probably asleep and not glued to their computers for 12 hours straight in order to get the latest breaking rumor. just my thoughts.

Re: i think they were banking on

Yeah, we (junkies) were probably always going to find out no matter what. This isn't like Lost, where they can film a scene in one hour in complete seclusion. There were cameras all over the place. There's security measures to be taken. They did one hell of a job keeping leaks from occurring, even as the answer was right under our nose.

Oh get over it. . .

The campaign couldn't have hid it from the stalkers camped outside each and every viable VP candidate's home.  It was as if Biden was Britney Spears tonight with all that paparazzi.  There was no way they were going to keep that secret.

Re: Oh get over it. . .

Frankly, I was disturbed by the whole spying on VP contenders house thing. It's creepy.

Re: what text message?

I'm so friggin glad i didn't give out my cell number. The last thing I want is to have text messaging become another email box.

That's why I'm pissed.  I feel like I was duped..

Like you would give anything to the Obama campaign.....

They were going to send the Sec Service

before the announcement. Once you start getting them involved, you are talking about hundreds of people knowing, and many of the repugs who want to rain on the parade. Logistics made it impossible for them to ensure that they could keep it secret. I'm impressed it was a secret as long as it was.

by IowaMike 2008-08-22 10:42PM | 0 recs
I'm not impressed

Bad form- the whole thing.

Re: what text message?

i feel silly for signing up for that now. i held out for so long and just broke down earlier today [yesterday?] and signed up for the txt. what fucking good that did me, sheesh all these stalkers ruined my txt delight that was sure to greet me tomorrow.

Re: what text message?

But now Camp Obama has all your info and hound you endlessly for money.

So you have that going for you.

Re: what text message?

They started sending them out a half hour ago. They have probably hundreds of thousands of numbers to text. No system can do them all at once.

Ambinder got his at 3:04am

So he actually did make the call at 3am. haha

Seroiusly, for many on this site

the only thing Obama could do to make you happy is drop out.

Admit it, then either come to grips with the fact your candidate lost, or make this site redstate's siamese twin.
